Chapter 201: Chapter 201 Jett: The Researcher Named Callum Shaw, Who Is He?
Kelsie leaned forward to tug his cheeks, her face softening into a smile as she sat up.
"Have you three had breakfast? If not, go do so. Mommy will be down in a bit."
Jesse sat up, his eager eyes following her every move as he queried, "What about that... Adler man?"
Turning to look at him, she batted her eyelids in surprise, realizing he was really serious.
"Mommy will, uh... think about it."
His serious face immediately eased into a bright smile as he hopped out of her bed, "Okay!"
And just like that, his sour mood vanished and he skipped out of the room happily.
She showered, changed into casual clothes and drove them to school.
Then like she always did, walked them to their respective classes before leaving the building.
"Is that you, Ms. Sutton?" A familiar voice suddenly called out behind her in the hallway.
Kelsie didn’t stop walking and briefly glanced back at Charlotte Hastings.
Seeing it was really her, Charlotte smiled and hurried toward her.
"Where have you been? You used to be everywhere like those annoying flies in summer, but all of a sudden, I stopped seeing you."
Noticing the designer clothes on her, Kelsie raised her brows in surprise, "You’re glowing, Ms. Hastings. You have nothing to worry about, I hope."
Charlotte grinned and gently tugged her collar, "Oh, this? It’s nothing. I took your advice to do something good for once in my life."
"Since you haven’t been around, you might not have heard that I’ll be stepping in as the school’s Principal in a few weeks."
"Good for you." Kelsie merely nodded and increased her pace, speeding away from Charlotte.
Charlotte’s face turned ugly, her eyes darkening for a second before she hurried to Kelsie’s side again, all smiles.
"If it hadn’t been for you, it would’ve been impossible to change my life. To turn it around."
"Hell, I wouldn’t even dream of becoming Principal, let alone think of it happening this soon." f(r)eew(e)bnovel.(c)o(m)
"I’m just really grateful for what you did and..." Charlotte kept rambling until they got to the garage.
Pulling open her door, Kelsie finally turned to look at her.
"Do you need anything from me, Ms. Hastings?"
The woman paused, a nervous smile easing into her features as she nodded timidly.
"Haha! You caught me. Thing is, I’m putting together a party at my place tomorrow and would really appreciate it if you come."
Kelsie got into her car and lowered the window to stare into her face.
"I’m not your friend. As long as you don’t lay your hands on my children or interfere with the school’s activities, I don’t care what you do with your life."
With that, she started the engine, stepped on the accelerator, and sped off, leaving a cloud of smoke in Charlotte’s face.
She drove straight to the apartment building where she saw a cross Callum Shaw waiting for her outside.
Watching his mpatient eyes flicker around whenever a car drove in, she sucked in a deep breath and leaned back on her seat.
They hadn’t met in so long, so he didn’t know she now had a new car.
As the first man to truly know and accept his position in her life really fast, Callum was a real nagger.
Worse than her aunt.
No, her aunt was nothing compared to this man.
Given how he didn’t bother to take off his lab coat nor give her a call to say he would coming, her ears were certainly going to bleed by the time he was done talking it off.
Summoning off enough courage to get out of her car, she had just taken two steps away from it when his eyes darted to her.
Stomping toward her, he gently handed her an envelope before snorting.
"What, you quit the hospital? You didn’t quit three or four months ago when merely breathing made them gossip about you, but you quit just when you became the patients’ favorite doctor?"
She stared into his fully-bearded face, turning it to the side as she clicked her tongue, "When was the last time you shaved?"
Though he let her move his head around, he didn’t forget his reason for coming and huffed, "You may be an excellent doctor, but you still need to have experience, years of experience, if you want to be hired and taken serious by other hospitals."
"No, seriously, have you shaved in the past six months? You look horrible. I can barely see yurt jaw."
"Mr. Reynolds made an exception when he brought you into the hospital. An exception he didn’t care that he was constantly being criticized for. But the good thing? It was a good exception."
"I think Zade bought some shaving cream the last time the nanny took them shopping. Maybe you can use them to shave in the guest bathroom."
"Nowhere pays as much as Haven Medical Center. There’s a reason you actually quit, isn’t it? There has to be. Did another hospital offer you a job with a higher pay? I mean, there’s no way you quit so you can open your own practice."
He had only just voiced that thought when she shrugged, "I’m opening my own practice."
His head bobbed to the side in surprise, then he exhaled heavily and squeezed his eyes shut before speaking again.
"Haven Medical Center is everywhere, and where it’s not, there are other hospitals. No sensible person would leave a hospital with good facilities to come to your practice. In fact, no one will even know your practice exists."
"You may have been the favorite doctor there, but how do you intend to get any patients when you left before you could tell anyone you’d be leaving?"
Kelsie walked past him and into the building as she replied, "Mr. Reynolds gave me a flash drive to keep me off the database. It has everything about my clients on them"
The man slipped both hands into his coat jacket and followed after her.
"That’s the hospital’s property. If you make use of that flash drive, they will sue and you will lose."
"Oh, I wonder why I didn’t think of that. Fine, I’ll mail it to them."
"Hopefully, you also go back to them. I spoke with Mr. Reynolds on my way here and he said he would let you come back if you want to."
"You’re not the one who quit, why are so worried?"
He increased his pace, walking past her so he could stood in her way.
Kelsie halted. "What are you doing?"
Raising both brows, he lifted three fingers to reason with her, "I’m just... the research and all. You’ll barely have enough to open your own practice and we have to start making another batch soon."
"It takes a few months to fully set up one’s practice. There’s a lot of paperworks to file. Bills to pay."
"I’m afraid you’ll lose all your money and eventually have to close up since you won’t have any clients in the long run."
In reply, Kelsie thinned her lips and lowered her eyes to her wristwatch, "Do you have to get back to the laboratory now? I want to check out some places for my practice."
Callum couldn’t believe his ears. "What? Are you serious? Have you heard nothing I’ve said?"
"That question requires a yes or no answer."
Kelsie was so preoccupied with him she didn’t notice the BMW at the other end of the garage.
Jett had come out of his private elevator earlier using the back, so Callum hadn’t seen him.
But just when Eric was about to drive out, Kelsie’s car drove in and he naturally killed the car’s engine to let his boss talk to her, only to see Callum walk up to her.
Watching them head into the building with an unreadable look in his eyes, Jett lowered his eyes to the paperwork on his thigh.
Eric watched him quietly from the rear view mirror before speaking up.
"From his lab coat, he’s a researcher in Haven Medical Center’s. But that bag he handed her isn’t big enough to contain any food or drink, so he’s not a colleague interested in her."
"Sir, Ms. Sutton has really dull eyes sometimes, do you think she may be doing drugs? I hear some people in the lab use the opportunity to cook some..."
He quickly trailed off, scrambling to start the car’s engine again when Jett’s dark eyes snapped toward him.
"I’ll find out his relationship with her."
One hour later, he strolled into Jett’s office with some information.
"Callum Shaw, he’s not just a researcher for Haven Medical Center, he’s one of the few experienced researchers producing your... genetic repair drug."
"Sir, remember how we’ve been trying to know who the second party who has been funding the project is?"
Jett glanced at him.
Knowing he had piqued his interest, Eric grimaced and continued.
"Even Haven Medical Center has no idea who that is, but according to Callum’s colleagues, he’s the only one who knows and delivers the product to them."
"Since the product is so sensitive a ray of sun can effect it, it’s only given to us in a certain type of bag capable of shielding it from ultraviolet rays."
"And It wasn’t until I got that information that I realized the bag he gave her is the exact type your genetic drug comes in."
