Chapter 198: Chapter 198 Karen Kunstler: This Is My Cousin, Serbian

One thing Kelsie admired about Kelvin was his ability not to let his feelings show.

She could feel his hostility toward her, but he always had a smile on his face. If she didn’t know better, she would be one of the many hospital staffs saying Kelvin Reynolds was the best man they had ever come across.

"Dr. Sutton, will that be a problem or would you like me to send you the termination later once I go up to my office?"

He was also very cunning and clever. But as good as he was at masking his feelings, he always failed to mask his desperation.

And at the moment, Kelsie could see he was really hoping she’d choose the former option.

"It’ll be cruel of me to opt out instead of saving Mr. Howard. When he said he wouldn’t be having the surgery, I didn’t think he was being serious. I’ll go schedule a meeting with him now."

She was about to leave when the man called her back.

"That is not necessary. It so happens the Kunstler family invited the Howards to the branch opening of their bakery near the hospital."

"And as I recall, you were personally invited too. We’re thinking the bakery will be a good place to meet and talk him out of it. What do you think?"

Kelsie scoffed lightly, "The decision has been made already, what does it matter what I think?"

Kelvin said nothing and glanced at the time on his wristwatch.

"The branch opening isn’t until 2pm. Once you’re in there, I don’t want you coming out until Serbian Howard has been convinced to go ahead with the surgery. So you have two hours to do whatever you need to do."

"Yes, sir." Kelsie mummed, watching him strut away.

Then she returned to her office and picked up her phone to call Jett. f.r(e)e\webn.ovel.co\m

In Adler Group, Jett unplugged the phone he was prying into from his computer and picked up his ringing phone.

When he saw the name sprawled across his screen, his stoic face eased, blooming into a wide grin.

"I don’t think it’s been three hours since we saw each other. Don’t tell me you miss me already, you charming human."

Kelsie’s first reaction was to laugh before she cleared her throat and chided him, "Don’t get ahead of yourself, Mr. Adler."

"Now I’m calling because I have to be at a bakery’s opening in a few hours, so I was wondering if you’d be able to... pick the triplets from school."

Jett was actually thinking of calling to ask her this, so he quickly parted his lips to agree when he suddenly thought of something.

"What is it? Will you be busy?" Kelsie grew nervous when she didn’t hear from him.

Jett slowly pushed his chair backward and got on his feet. He walked to the open window and leaned on the wall beside it, his eyes gazing down at the activities happening under him.

"Not that busy, but I’m heading a conglomerate and I have a lot of papers to sign."

"But since I’ll be putting everything aside because of this emergency, what do you think about thanking me for picking them from school today?"

"I have no money to give you." Kelsie didn’t know when she blurted out.

Was she not thinking of money, she would’ve recalled she was talking to a multi-billionaire with a reliable personal driver, a family driver and a personal assistant.

All whom he had known for years and were practically family to him. Asking Eric to pick his children from school was the same as going there himself.

Yet, he refused to mention it. In fact, he refused to regard it as an option.

"Money? I don’t know what that is."

"Really? Well, that is a relief. If you don’t want money, then do you want something of monetary value? I have this really expensive bracelet. I believe it’s over a hundred thousand."

"You have such a cheap bracelet?"

"How dare you do that to the most expensive bracelet I own?"

"What? It’s so cheap. No bracelet I own cost less than a million."

"Well, not everyone is a billionaire, sir, but if you don’t want something of monetary value, what then do you want?"

"Have dinner with me."

At the mention of dinner, Kelsie’s involuntarily thought back to the events of last night. Seven hours. Or was it eight?

She had been ignoring it the entire day, but her body was still so sore from all the activity of last night.

As she deliberated refusing, Jett hissed from his end, "Last night, didn’t you say you’d eat my food next time?"

Kelsie, knowing he was hinting at something else, was even more determined to refuse when he added calmly, "Not in my apartment. In a restaurant. Maybe a hotel or anywhere of your choice, I don’t even care."

"Really? Okay, then, but you’ll pick the triplets today and tomorrow."

"Done."

As soon as the call ended, a knock sounded on Jett’s door before it was pushed open.

Eric strutted in with an envelope which he handed to Jett.

Jett tore it open and took out the autopsy report in it, reading it aloud, "After careful examination, I have come to a conclusion that Rafa Vadera died from a stab wound to the throat. He bled for at least five seconds before he died."

"I tried to ask around, but none of Rafa’s boys would see me. The prison warden has also refused to bend over." Eric sighed.

Jett smacked his lips thoughtfully, "We offered

so much and he didn’t bend over?"

Eric also found the situation ridiculous. He had offered so much, yet the warden turned him down.

With the amount he offered, anyone could take it and disappear without a trace. They wouldn’t also have to work for the rest of their lives.

If the person wasn’t splurging, his grandchildren would be born into generational wealth.

So after pondering the matter, he could only come to a conclusion he found reasonable.

"Sir, I believe whoever has him on a payroll must pay higher."

Jett merely chuckled and crumpled the autopsy report.

"Nonsense. You think there’s anyone who’d pay him anything more than a million to keep those boys in prison?"

"The warden was a thug in his younger years and he jumped through hoops to get to that position."

"So it’s one of two things, he only does what his superior asks him to, or he can’t dare to offend who he works for."

Eric also found that deduction reasonable.

After a while, Jett tossed the crumpled paper into the waste bin and took his seat.

"What has Craig Adler and his son been doing these past weeks?"

Eric took out his phone.

He tapped on the screen a few times before responding.

"Your cousin has been going to different shareholders, trying to convince them why they should oust you as the company’s head."

"Your uncle hasn’t been doing much. All he does is stay at home and go for a stroll every evening. He hardly meets anyone during those strolls."

Jett picked up a document without looking at him, "Follow Craig again. I refuse to believe a troublesome man like him has suddenly decided to live life on the low."

"Yes, sir." Eric bowed in understanding and turned to leave, but halted, recalling he had missed something.

"Also, something came for you. The Kunstler family invited you to the opening of their bakery near Haven Medical Center."

Jett raised his eyes.

So that’s where she was going.

Oh, well.

"Attend on my behalf."

While he got ready to go to Aventis Academy, Kelsie was heading to the bakery.

She hadn’t thought much of it, but only when she arrived there and saw the hundreds of expensive cars in the garage did she realize this was no small bakery.

They hadn’t done a ribbon-cutting ceremony and just threw a party.

"Okay, I like this definition of party. It’s serene, loud, yet quiet. Nothing like the lousy ones I’m used to."

Holly had disappeared from Kelsie’s sight the moment they stepped into the bakery, so fast Kelsie didn’t recall she came with someone.

Now, she had re-emerged from god-knows-where with glazed doughnuts and a fruit punch.

"This tastes heavenly. How did I not know until now a bakery like this exists? I don’t even mind where it’s located, I’d drive hundreds of miles to get a load of this."

"That is so nice of you, but we offer home delivery too." Someone giggled behind her.

"Uh, hey, Karen." Holly greeted amidst mouthfuls.

"Ms. Kunstler, I didn’t think I’d see you in this sea of people, much more your dad." Kelsie greeted as well.

Karen was waving at passing guest as she retorted, "My dad had an impromptu business to take care of so I’m hosting the party."

"Oh, congratulations. You did great. I love the interior and all." An excited Holly stole the words right out of Kelsie’s mouth.

"Thank you." Karen beamed then suddenly reached out to drag a passing guy in a sweatshirt.

"This is my cousin. He’s been down ever since this woman he likes turned him down. Don’t be such a buzz-kill, Serbian. At least say hi to Dr. Sutton, the gorgeous doctor who saved my life."
