Chapter 192: Chapter 192 A Bastard
As they waited for the boss’ decision, Kelsie stood beside Zoe.
The burly racer leaned on the race car behind him, eyes pinned on Kelsie as he questioned witb a straight face, "You’re a pretty woman with a nice ride. What’s your job, princess?"
Kelsie returned his gaze stoically, "Don’t call me princess."
He clicked his tongue, smiling lewdly as he continued, "Why not? You’re totally a princess. You also reek of a white collar job."
"Lawyer, surgeon or manager, which are you? How do I know you’re one of these? Because your kind are the only ones who throw money at their problems."
Keira smiled grimly.
"If money can solve the problem, why not?"
His face instantly stretched into a proud smile.
"You’re definitely the right kind of your people. I like you."
Soon, the person they sent to fhe SUV returned.
As the boss’ instruction was whispered to him, the burly man’s eyes fell a little. But this emotion disappeared the very next second when he glanced at Kelsie.
When they finished talking, Kelsie took out her card again.
"Did your boss increase my friend’s debt since I look like I have a white collar job?"
However, the racer shook his head in refusal.
"Our boss happens to be a traditional man. He says if anyone should pay him, it should be the original debtor."
At this, the usually timid Zoe didn’t know when she snapped, "Didn’t you say earlier the valley is the only way your race group survives"
"If you won’t take money from anyone else besides her, why then did you hold her hostage and had her call me?"
The man pursed his lips.
"Well, we have a boss. A reliable boss. When he isn’t around, we do whatever we want, but when he is around, we act on his orders."
"And he’s around today. Now, to help your friend, he has asked that you race with five of our people."
"Three laps, if you come in first, you get to walk away with your friend and her debt will be erased. Otherwise..."
Zoe quickly interrupted him, gritting her teeth in exasperation as she yelled, "This isn’t what you said earlier. If you knew your boss was around, why didn’t you ask him before making any promises!"
The man’s face instantly darkened and he lashed out angrily, "Shut your mouth. Your friend is in this mess because of you! The least you can do is thank her for coming and root for her to come in first!"
Zoe blinked twice, gently scratching the top of her left brow as she agreed in a small voice.
"I-I know that. But five versus one? Hey, what do you take us for? How the hell does she come in first?"
"I’m not even sure she’s driven a sports car before. You’re obviously setting her up for failure!"
At this, the man nodded in agreement and turned to the person next to him.
"She’s right. It really isn’t fair. So place a call to other racers in different parts of the city. Tell them to be here in ten minutes."
When the person left, he turned to Kelsie and Zoe.
"Our racers have no affiliation with this people coming. So you can be rest assured we’re not trying to pull off anything here."
Only then did Zoe feel at peace and she no longer said anything.
Seeing he had calmed them, the burly man turned to remind Kelsie.
"Miss, you have ten minutes to get yourself ready. Or are you already rethinking your decision to race?"
Upon hearing him, Zoe clenched her jaw tightly, her hopeful eyes darting to Kelsie’s face.
But a second later, she shook the thought of winning out of her mind and braced herself.
"Team leader, race cars aren’t the same as normal cars. Everything about it is different. Even if you’ve raced once or twice in the past, it’s a whole different feeling out here."
"In ten minutes you’ll be competing with five professional racers. A lot of accidents happen during racing and it’s likely you could... die out there."
"So I’ll understand if you choose not to race. I can actually take care of myself. I have nothing to lose anyway, so I’ll just sell myself to this people or do whatever I can to pay off my debt to them."
The man chucked.
"That would’ve been the case if your friend hadn’t arrived, but now that she’s here, we won’t let her leave without racing."
Zoe was dumbfounded.
For someone who was rarely provoked, this racer was getting on her nerves.
"What is this? You keep adding more ridiculous terms. If I didn’t know better, I’d say you’re setting her up!"
The man’s face darkened again and he immediately barked at her.
"Stop spouting nonsense and keep your mouth shut!"
Then he turned to Kelsie.
"You understand everything I’ve said, don’t you?"
She nodded, "I do."
The man’s pupils dilated seeing how servile she was.
If only she knew.
Folding both hands across his chest, he turned to glare at Zoe, "So quiet and calm. She’s your friend, learn how to be quiet from her and don’t be so loud mouthed!"
Zoe’s face was once again heating up in anger when Kelsie laughed softly.
"Don’t listen to him, talk as much as you want. I’m impressed you’re no more timid and always lowering your head in fear."
The angry look on Zoe’s face instantly melted, her cheeks turning a rosy shade as she blushed.
This sudden change in behavior drastically shocked the burly man and he smacked his lips bitterly.
"All these while I’ve been telling you to be quiet and all it took to get you quiet is a mere compliment from her? If you wanted to be complimented, you should’ve just said so!"
However, all he got in reply was a side glare from her.
Exactly ten minutes later, five race cars sped into the valley, one after the other.
So the race was scheduled to kick off in a few minutes and Kelsie’s race car was brought.
She turned to see what it looked like and instantly froze at the familiar sight of it.
The man didn’t notice and went ahead to explain proudly.
"It’s an old model sport car, but it’s on par with those of the other racers. So don’t you worry yourself."
Kelsie clenched her jaw tightly, "Where did you get this car?" fre eweb\(n)ovel(.)co(m)
The man still didn’t notice anything wrong with her expression and went ahead to pat the bumper lovingly.
"Our boss bought it three years ago off the black market. This beauty you see here was a wreck when he brought it back three years ago."
"But he diligently worked on it everyday until it returned to its former glory. Scratch that. With the work he put in this, I bet it looks better than before."
"To be honest, I don’t know why he suddenly said to bring it. He has never once ridden in it."
"And to think he spent so much time and money to repair it, yet he’s giving it to a total stranger to ride in. I’ll never understand that man."
As he spoke, Kelsie’s hands slowly curled into a tight fist, her eyes settling on the SUV.
Was she supposed to believe the car her mother died in 19 years ago just happened to appear in front of her out of nowhere?
Even if that was a coincidence. Was it also a coincidence it still had the same plate number?
What deranged bastard was playing this sick joke on her?
