Chapter 183: Chapter 183 Rafa Valdera
Kelsie went rigid in surprise, eyes falling to the floor.
A relative?
She was unsure if her mother had any relative. In fact, there was nothing to suggest that woman did.
She was unsure of Jerry too, but compared to her mother, Kelsie felt the said relative might be from him.
Why?
He only did things that favored him and going around telling people his estranged daughter was a wonderful surgeon didn’t benefit him in anyway.
Unless he made some kind of bet with someone.
Whipping out her phone, she searched the internet for a picture of him whilst asking, "Do you happen to remember what he looked like?"
But the only response she got was the soft snoring sound which suddenly filled the room.
She lifted her eyes, settling them on Karen who was now fast asleep.
Putting away her phone, she inched towards the bed, putting a pillow under Karen’s head and covering her up properly before leaving the ward.
Karen was in a lot of pain when she fainted last night. Furthermore, she kept waking up during the surgery, leaving the anesthesiologist no choice than to increase the anesthesia.
So Kelsie wasn’t worried seeing how knocked out she suddenly was.
"You should step off your high horse, Dr. Sutton."
She had just stepped out of the ward when someone hissed behind her.
A heavy exhale escaped her lips, her right hand pressing against her temple as she slowly turned to the owner of the voice.
A senior doctor. Of course.
Given from that look on his face and what she just heard him say, he didn’t come here to say anything nice. f.(r)eewe/bnov\ll.com
Glancing at the time on her wrist-watch, she parted her lips to say something when the doctor sneered.
"Best doctor or not, there’s only so much mistake Mr. Reynolds will take from you. Ever since you came here, all you’ve done is bring the wrong kind of attention to the hospital."
"If you don’t get a grip soon, I won’t be surprised if you’re kicked out in a month’s time."
The nurse coming out of the room behind them, paused.
A cleaner pushing a cleaning cart halted.
The male doctor who was about to waltz past them also froze, his eyes flickering from one face to the other in surprise.
This was a direct threat on Kelsie’s career and someone with a successful one like hers, no matter how magnanimous, was bound to get annoyed when the downfall of their career was supposedly brought up.
So the staffs around all waited with bated breaths for Kelsie to lash out, but instead, she strolled towards the doctor, patting him gently on the shoulder as she said, "I appreciate your advice. Thank you."
Then she slipped both hands into her pockets and began strutting away without another word.
"She didn’t get offended? How could she be so calm?" The nurse blurted out, eyes pinned on Kelsie’s back.
"There is not a single soul in this hospital who is as relaxed at that woman. For such a busy person with a demanding career, I can’t help feeling jealous." The cleaner gushed, his eyes twinkling dreamily.
The doctor’s face naturally darkened.
That wench... no wonder she acted so nonchalant.
She willingly swallowed the rash words she would’ve hurled at him just to make him into a bad and insensitive man.
Seething inwardly, he turned to glare at her retreating figure.
The other doctor naturally noticed his angry state and cleared his throat noisily, glancing at the nurse and cleaner stoically, "Don’t you both have work to get back to?"
Instantly, the cleaner pushed his cart and the nurse hurriedly stepped out of the room.
As soon as they were gone, he placed a hand akimbo on his waist and began reprimanding the other doctor with a straight face.
"Look, I know it hurts to see someone so young get the position you’ve worked so hard for, but don’t you think the bullying is getting..."
He slowly trailed off and gradually stopped talking when the doctor in question stomped out on him.
He watched the doctor walk out with a straight face before he began making his way to the reception.
There was no one behind the desk, hence, he directly helped himself.
"Now, let’s see who this Dr. Sutton is and why everyone seems to hate her."
He lowered his hand to the mouse, clicking on it a few times and typing a little on the keyboard before he paused and leaned backward, his eyes widening in astonishment.
"Those knuckleheads. They all think getting her out of the hospital will do the trick, but the truth of the matter is, if she leaves this hospital, we’re all screwed."
"I mean, look at all this. Half of the patients in this hospital are all under her. New patients rarely recall the other surgeons exists and the ones under them ask for a change of doctor?"
"With the number of patients she has and her skills, if she starts a hospital, she’d overtake Haven Medical Center in a year!"
The longer he scrolled down, the wider his eyes became, surprised as he saw even the hospital’s VIP patients under her.
Suddenly, a voice cautiously called out to him, "Dr. Whitman?"
Gary Whitman pinned his eyes on the computer, quickly exiting and erasing what he had just searched before he turned around with a goofy smile.
"Hello, Holly. I see you’re all over the place as usual."
"It’s really you!" The words were yet out of his mouth when Holly shrieked in excitement and leapt into his arms.
Kelsie was passing by at this moment and happened to see this.
But realizing Holly couldn’t see her, she turned around, planning to slip away when Gary raised his eyes and saw her, then quickly informed Holly.
"Dr. Sutton. You’re here. Come, I want to introduce you to someone." As expected, Holly beckoned into Kelsie, her shimmering eyes not leaving Gary’s face.
"I am going to, um, I’m running late. I can’t really afford to be here any longer than I should." Kelsie didn’t think at all and flatly declined, trying to step away again.
"Then I’ll come to you." Gary instantly stepped forward, stretching his hand towards her for a handshake.
Kelsie stared at the outstretched hand for a moment, and was about to take it when a firm hand did it for her.
The smile on Gary’s face instantly faded when he saw Jett’s unfamiliar face.
Jett, however, ignored the awkwardness and shook his hands a few times before he let go and stood beside Kelsie protectively.
Holly almost laughed.
"Don’t get me wrong. I just want to introduce Dr. Sutton to Gary Whitman, he’s in General Surgery."
"He has been on leave for the past six months, hence, why you haven’t seen him around. He’s also a great friend of mine."
Her cheeks turned a faint hue of pink as she said the last part.
Kelsie pretended not to notice and chuckled softly, "You don’t say,"
Holly soon got a grip on herself and officially began introducing the duo to each other.
"Gary, this is Kelsie Sutton, today might be your first day back after six months, but there is not a person in this hospital who doesn’t know her."
Gary hummed, his eyes not leaving Kelsie’s face as he agreed, "The moment I walked through the door this morning, I heard her name."
"She’s extremely talented and this over here is her..." Holly nodded in agreement and was about to introduce Jett when Gary suddenly smiled.
"He must be her boyfriend."
Jett immediately thinned his lips.
He didn’t like this guy.
The entire time, he pretended not to notice the nurse was grinning from ear-to-ear because of him and kept his eyes on another woman the entire time.
What a punk.
Snorting, he raised a questioning brow, "What? You’ve been back for one day and you already know that much? Did you dedicate your first day to learning more about her?"
Gary immediately nodded, meeting his eyes.
"As a matter of fact, yes. The patients won’t stop singing praises of her and I wondered just how good she had to be to get them that way."
"There are also jealous doctors in every corner of the hospital. My curiousity got the best of me and I had to look her up online."
"Which, if you haven’t noticed, she has an entire profile filled with informations about her."
"What, really? I didn’t know doctors get one of those too. I thought they were specially reserved for celebrities and the likes of them." An astonished Holly took out her phone to confirm.
Gary smiled, lowering his gaze to her, "Holly, someone who is known by the entire hospital is a celebrity."
Seeing this, Kelsie thought it was only right to let these two be and quietly excused herself.
She had just stepped out of the building when Jett caught up with her.
"What do you want?"
"Let me pick the triplets from school."
"I want to ask why, but I won’t. So I’ll call the school to let them know you’ll be coming to pick them up again."
A bright smile broke out on the man’s face.
"I love it when you’re nice to me."
Kelsie barely glanced at him before she sauntered forward, but suddenly halted and turned to him again.
"I have no patients left to see or surgeries to perform, so I’m going to the court for my case with Bryan Baker."
"I can come with you."
The words had just rolled off his tongue when she hurried into her car and huffed, "Why would you? We’re not even dating."
"That’s only because..." Jett was trying not to laugh seeing how fast she drove away.
Almost immediately, he felt the phone in his pocket buzz incessantly and took it out to answer.
"Sir, I’m in Loade right now. And I’ve been told... twelve hours ago, Rafa Valdera was shanked in prison. His body... cremated two hours later." Eric’s voice came up almost immediately.
