Chapter 175: Chapter 175 Production Set
When he came out of the bathroom, neither Kelsie nor his grandfather were in the ward.
Jack was a creature of habit. Whenever he left his ward in the middle of the day, it was to go on a stroll with his caregivers. f|re(e)web.n\ovel. (c)o.m
And he only did that whenever he was distressed about something.
Presently, Daniel could see him hurrying away while his caregivers struggled to keep up with his pace.
Pursing his lips, it didn’t take Daniel long to realize he was upset.
Upset? By who and for who?
He hadn’t heard anyone anyone come in while he was in the bathroom. So he was sure Kelsie was the only one with him.
So if no one came into the ward with any unsettling news, then it had to be what Kelsie said during their conversations.
No, wait. She could’ve have said anything upsetting when all she had to do was go on a date with...
He instantly trailed off, his eyes widening in realization.
She turned him down?
But the next second, he pushed the thought to the back of his mind.
Unlikely. Highly unlikely. Kelsie might be just as obstinate as his brother, but if the situation asked for it, she would never be so outright.
She would probably say she needs a few days to think it through. Yes, that’s what she’d do.
However, the more she tried to convince himself of that, the harder he found it very likely that she had done so.
Outside, Jack had his phone pressed against his ear.
"I told you not to mess up. Now she wouldn’t go on a date with you!"
Jett was silent for a while before his voice came up hesitantly, laced with excitement, "She... she redused? Really?"
Jack momentarily paused, but the next second, he erupted in rage and yelled into the phone loudly.
"I warned you, didn’t I? Dr. Sutton isn’t someone you take lightly. It’s one thing if you refused to go to the first date, but why mess with me like this?"
"What, you want me to set up another date between you two so you can apologize for standing her up that night? Did you even mean that?
Jett exhaled tiredly, "Grandfather, I only asked a question. Why are you getting so upset?"
Hearing his casual words, Jack was seconds away from blowing up. But he recalled where he was and gripped his phone tightly, his eyes reddening.
"Because you think this is some kind of joke! Listen to me carefully, you unreadable punk! You may have everything now, but you’ll never meet a woman like her ever again, do you hear me? Ever again!"
In response to his venting, Jett said nothing and Eric’s cautious voice came up instead.
"Sir, this is the flower."
Parked in front of a flower store two hours away, Jett paused and looked over at the rose inside a matte box.
His brows furrowed slightly, unimpressed by the sight, "Why does it look like that?"
"Like what?"
"Cheap."
Taken aback, Eric glanced down at the flower.
Cheap?
After all the work he had done, he actually dared to call it cheap?
This flower could buy a building!
But instead of saying that, he raised his eyes and smiled forcefully, pointing at the group of men and women hanging in front of the store.
"You seem to forget we came with appraisals just to confirm he isn’t lying to us about using the best materials he could find."
Jett stared at be rose again before he turned and got into the car.
Once inside, he looked over again and shrugged.
"I don’t like it, but it’ll do for now. Commission him to make a better one."
"Yes." Eric mummed and turned to walk into the flower store again.
As soon as he was gone, Jack, who had listened to the entire conversation, knew without a doubt what was going on and was already seething in intense rage.
"You know, I’m glad Ms. Sutton didn’t agree to go on this date with you. You may be my grandson, but you’re too unscrupulous for her!"
"I know. That’s why I’m trying my best to make up for..." Jett was saying, but naturally stopped and took down the phone when he heard the line disconnecting.
That hotheaded old man.
A smile creased his lips imaging how shocked his grandfather would be once he found out Kelsie was the woman he was seeing and they already had three beautiful children.
Ha!
Eric came out of the flower store with another delicate and intricate matte box.
Getting into the car, he was startled to see his boss grinning so widely.
"Is anything the matter, sir?"
"Ms. Sutton won’t go on a date with this ’grandson’ my grandfather asked her to." Jett retorted, tossing the phone beside him.
"Okay, so?" Murmured Eric uncertainly.
The smile faded from Jett’s face as he glanced towards his direction to him, "You’re so clueless. But again, it’s no wonder you have no girlfriend."
The corners of Eric’s lips spasmed, barely able to hold back the retort on the tip of his tongue.
No wonder he didn’t have a girlfriend?
He didn’t have a girlfriend either. Unlike him, he hadn’t asked a girl out and got turned down.
He didn’t realize he was staring at Jett with fixation as he internally defended his singleness until the man caught him look.
"What? Did I lie?"
Eric hurriedly shook his head, "Not at all, sir."
Jett exhaled in satisfaction, resting his head on the headrest as he sealed his eyes shut.
"But Eric?"
"Sir?" Answered Eric, starting the car.
The engine sputtered for some seconds before Jett continued, eyes still closed, "Why don’t you have a girl in your life? Are you gay?"
Eric’s eyes widened, almost bulging out as he turned to stare at Jett squarely in the face.
Feeling his gaze on him, Jett calmly waved him aside and turned his face outside the window.
"You need help getting a girl, don’t you? Once Ms. Sutton and I are happily together, I’ll give you a few tips on how to do so."
At this point, Eric was on the verge of crying out.
This man wasn’t even taken yet and he was already so cocky. What would it be like when she finally said yes?
He gave a silent prayer in his heart for his future self.
The shaman always said he had a long life, but he doubted that now.
Once Kelsie said yes, Jett would rub it in everyday, smothering him before he was 30.
"Hurry up, Eric. I have to make lunch for Ms. Sutton. She loves my food, but has refused to admit it. That gorgeous hypocrite." Jett suddenly spoke up again, but paused, one of his eyes flying open to gaze at Eric with a blank face.
"Right. You don’t understand a word I’m saying since you don’t have a girl..."
Realizing Jett was about to have another round trip rubbing it in his face, Eric promptly started the car and drove off.
But just as he got to Adler Group, someone called from one for their branches to say there had been an accident during work hours.
So Jett sent people over and went through the paperworks in his office.
When he checked the time again, it was already time for lunch and he wasn’t done with half.
Unable to meet up with her any longer, he asked Eric to deliver the flower by a courier.
At the hospital, Kelsie had just chugged down her third bottle of orange juice when she was informed she’d be going to a movie production set with three assistants, Holly being one of them.
On their way, Holly quizzed her, "Have you ever been to a movie production set, Dr. Sutton?"
Kelsie shook her head. "This will be my first time."
Holly smiled and leaned back on her seat.
"Usually, there are little to no accidents, but whenever there’s an accident, it’s usually a serious one."
"The last production set I was assigned to, a lighting fell on one of the production team members while his colleagues were away."
"He was a burly man, you see, but his foot got stuck somewhere and he couldn’t get out. It was a deep cut, so after screaming for over an hour, he bled to death."
Kelsie briefly glanced at her, flashing her a reassuring smile, "Hopefully, nothing like that will happen today."
"Hopefully." Holly exhaled shakily, returning her smile.
As soon as they got to the production set, Holly disappeared, going around to greet people, introducing herself and everyone she came with.
When she returned, the other assistants had settled in in the corner allocated to them.
Waving at some of the crew members walking past them, she said, "But other than scary stuffs like that, being on a production site is quite nice."
"The production team, they’re usually very nice until those darn actors and actresses comes to stress them out."
At this, one of the other assistants began looking around.
"Speaking of actors and actresses, what set are we on? It was so sudden I didn’t have the opportunity to ask."
Kelsie glanced around as well, quickly spotting the gigantic production sign with the name of the movie on it.
"Destined To Be With You?"
The third assistant, who had been buried in her screen all these while, instantly whipped up her head in excitement, "Really? I love that show!"
"Oh, it’s a show." Kelsie quietly corrected herself, feeling the bridge of her nose.
But the two assistants were too filled with excitement to notice anyone else besides themselves.
"Uh, isn’t that the show with this very temperamental man who’s ambitious and wealthy and a female lead who doesn’t give a damn about him?"
"It is! The first season was such a hit and fans requested for a second season. I didn’t think they’d actually honor that idea."
"Doesn’t that mean we’re one of the few people to know the show is actually in production?"
"You’re right! I feel so honored right now. My boyfriend will flip if he finds out about this!"
After jumping around like little kids in their favorite toy store, one of them paused, turning to ask a quiet Holly, "Don’t tell me you’ve not watched it?"
Holly nodded, "I’ve heard of it, and I saw online that it has this very popular actress on it. Was it a... Lilian, no, Lia..."
"It’s Lila Reed." The third assistant quickly helped her out, laughing a little. "You watch a lot of movies. How is it you don’t know her?"
Holly’s eyes twinkled in embarrassment and she parted her lips to retort when someone strolled in with a matte box.
"I have a package for someone. It says here it’s for... Kelsie Sutton. There’s a Kelsie Sutton here?"
