Chapter 169: Chapter 169 Let’s Stick To First Names
Kelsie’s expression grew unreadable, her gaze turning steely.
"A wealthy heir like you really has no problem throwing your life away for a woman?"
His cheeks stretched into a wistful grin, "I was going to throw it away for nothing. It’s fine if you won’t love me back. But I’ll be glad if you’d make it to my funeral."
He then pushed his chair backward and left her office without another word.
As the door closed behind him, Kelsie hung her head, tiredly squeezing both eyes shut.
Serbian’s impending suicide was another thing, but why did she have to go through all these hassle just to her get her mother’s files?
She already knew for a fact the Reynolds twins had something to do with it, but nothing she could do would cripple the hospital in any way.
Moreover, the hospital has existed for over two decades. Even it she found a way to smear their reputation, that taint would disappear as fast as it came since they had friends in high places.
Only when she gets her mother’s medical file would she be able to really do something.
A brief knock, followed by the door to her office being pushed open forced her to look up, making her meet Jett’s eyes.
Jett folded his arms across his chest, a faint smile playing on his lips as he stood an inch away from her table.
"What is that look for? Did you miss me, Ms. Sutton?"
"Aren’t you taking your position in Adler Group too lightly?" Kelsie mumbled, hurriedly looking away from him.
Jett shrugged, "To tell you the truth, Adler Group became my second priority the moment I laid my eyes on you."
Kelsie stiffened, distractedly tapping her mouse as she scoffed, "What is this? You’re making me want to vomit."
Kelsie was always rational, so seeing her glance around in confusion stirred a strange sensation in his chest, like a cat playfully pawing at his heart.
Instead of sitting across her, he walked around her table, taking her by surprise, and stood behind her.
"You have a great posture, but I can tell from a distance how stiff your shoulders have become. May I?"
"If you... if you do that... will you leave once I let you do that do?" Kelsie gulped down, sputtering a little.
"Absolutely!" The man sharply retorted, lips twitching coyly.
As his fingers worked over her shoulders, her eyes closed on their own, a soft moan slipping from her lips.
"Your shoulders aren’t the only stiff muscles here." All of a sudden, his hot breath fanned the nape of her neck.
Her eyes flew open, and she sprang from her seat, backing away as sudden heat surged through her.
"Did I scare you? I didn’t mean to. It’s just... you had your eyes closed and I didn’t want to disrupt your peace." Jett was confused at first, then his eyes widened in realization. "Wait, no way!"
Kelsie ,who had already broken out in cold sweat, threw a cold glance his way, but inwardly, she was flustered.
"You look so flustered. Don’t tell me my hands..." The mischievous smile which crept onto his face as he spoke made Kelsie hurriedly cut him off, in fear that he was about to say something very absurd yet terrifyingly true.
"Your hands... your hands did what? Don’t spout nonsense!"
Hearing her heavy breathing, his chest swelled with pride, but he feigned ignorance to her situation and flashed her a clueless smile.
"The massage was so good it brought out the hidden sicknesses in you. See? I told you my hands were blessed." f r\eew,eb novel.c(o)(m)
Kelsie’s brows knitted in surprise, slightly taken aback by his words.
He really didn’t notice anything?
"What? Were you hoping I’d say something else? Did my massage, perhaps, bring out something else in you?" Jett questioned with a straight, continuing the clueless act.
Unable to tell if he was messing with her, she turned her back to him, her right hand pressed against her chest as she tried to calm her throbbing heart, which threatened to burst from her body.
Behind her, Jett’s eyes twinkled proudly, but he still sounded confused.
"Ms. Sutton, are you alright? If you’re not, It’s a good thing we’re at the hospital."
"It’s not... I’m fine, Mr. Adler." Kelsie held her breath, turning to face him again. "Do you have anything to talk to me about? I have some patients scheduled for this afternoon."
"Yes, of course. I do have something to discuss with you." Then he took his seat opposite her, his brows perked up in seriousness.
The sudden change in demeanor made Kelsie believe he was really being serious. Hence, she returned to her seat.
"I know for a fact you didn’t come down with a cold. To be honest, you don’t look sick at all."
Jett causally waved his hand at her.
"What I want to say has nothing to do with my health. I’ve always been physically agile. So agile I don’t fall sick easily."
"I even workout all seven days a week. Doctors recommend that we workout for a health, don’t you?"
Kelsie’s eyes involuntarily trailed to the chest muscle peeking out of his unbuttoned shirt, but she looked away almost immediately, scratching the side of her head as she hummed in agreement.
"It is good that you’ve been working out and in good health. But if you have nothing related to your health to talk about with me, then what are you doing here? Or does me being in charge of your grandfather bother you?"
He leaned towards her desk, slanting to the side a little to reveal more of his chest while his other hand rhythmically drummed on the desk before as he spoke.
"It’s none of those. I just did a little thinking. We’ve known each for about six months and we’re neighbors."
"Furthermore, we see each other everyday. With all that, don’t you think we shouldn’t be too formal with each other? I mean, it’s only right that we drop the honorifics with each other."
Kelsie raised a questioning brow, "So you want us to go by our first names?"
"Why? Don’t you like the idea of us talking to each other casually like we’re doing now?"
"You’ve been talking to me way casually than this ever since we met."
"That is not the point!" Jett hurriedly scoffed.
"Fine. We’ll do what you want. You’ll only terrorize me for the next few weeks until I agree with you."
"Now that we’ve agreed on that, which do you think sounds better; my darling snob or my charming darling?"
