Chapter 168 Serbian Howard… Dilemma

Chapter 168: Chapter 168 Serbian Howard... Dilemma

As the top hospital in the country, it was no surprise that tons of geniuses helped in building and fortifying the database.

But that wasn’t what deterred Kelsie from hacking into the database when she found out Kelvin Reynolds and his brother had something to do with her mother’s death.

She didn’t do it as it contained the medical information of millions of people. Silicone Valley also wasn’t the only place Haven Medical Center was. It was scattered all over the country and they all used the database.

So hacking into the database would not only disrupt the flow of work here, but there as well.

Sure, she would get her mother’s medical information and leave in matter of seconds, but dozens of people could die in that time period if doctors couldn’t access their medical history.

So after deliberating for a few minutes, she turned on the computer given to her by the hospital, inserted the flash drive then found some random movie to watch.

Then she took out her personal laptop.

All she needed was a brief disruption. She’d attempt to hack into it. Lurking around long enough for Kelvin Reynolds’ technical team to notice.

Then she’d log out. While they tried to fortify the firewall, she’d use the mayhem to her disadvantage.

Files would be jumbled up and it’d take a minute to log out everyone on the server. That was her chance.

Adter doing this, she erased all traces of what she did, paused her movie on the computer and left the office.

Like she expected, Kelvin Reynolds assistants had come down to escort a few people upstairs.

There was no doubt about them being his technical team.

Some people had gathered around the reception gossiping with Holly.

"You almost missed it." Holly said as soon as she got to them.

Feigning ignorance, her confused eyes flickered across their faces, "Missed what?"

"Did you see the people going upstairs with Mr. Reynolds’ assistants just now?" Someone asked and she nodded, "They’re the hospital’s computer analysts, hackers, and every other thing you can think of. Just name it."

Kelsie’s pupils constricted in surprise.

"They seem to have come at once. Doesn’t that usually happen whenever there’s something wrong? Did something happen?"

The group was silent for a moment before Holly’s eyeballs trembled in disbelief.

She quickly straightened up and tried to log into the database.

"They say they’re doing maintenance. The database is on maintenance."

Someone turned the screen to himself, a thoughtful look in his eyes.

"Huh? Maintenance isn’t until next week. If they’re having an impromptu maintenance, does that mean someone tried to hack into it?"

"If that’s the case, then there’s really no use having those people upstairs. If Serbian Howard doesn’t arrive anytime soon, that database is as good as..." Holly was saying when someone cut her off.

"Serbian Howard. I saw him go up a minute ago."

Relief washed over everyone, their tense body relaxing.

"There you have it. We’ve been saved. But what malicious hacker would hack into a hospital’s database? What happened to hacking into a government official’s sludge funds?"

"He must be trying to get money out of the hospital. With millions of files in the database, he’d sure make a hell lot of money."

"Sometimes, I wish I had the brains to be a hacker. Just do something like this and I’m set for life."

"Is it almost fifteen minutes? This should be over by then."

Kelsie glanced at a wall clock. f|re(e)web.n\ovel. (c)o.m

Fifteen minutes.

That was more than enough time to access her mothers record.

But that thought crumbled into bits when she returned to her office to see the site was up and running like before.

She stared at her screen in astonishment, gently tugging her lips.

What is this? He’s that good?

Running her fingers across her keyboard, she tried to hack into the database again.

It was harder than the first time. So she knew Serbian must’ve done a quick work on it, but it was no hassle for her as she broke through it a minute later, but then...

"What is this? What the..."

She was rendered speechless seeing the wicked programming.

He had re-programmed it in just a few minutes to delete everything and crash if it was ever accessed from another device.

Without thinking twice, she hurriedly logged off.

Running both hands through her hair, she sighed in frustration.

A knock sounded on the door at this moment, followed by a familiar face popping in.

"Hi."

Kelsie straightened up, putting away her laptop and bobbed her head at him with a straight face.

"Mr. Howard."

Serbian stepped into the room fully, gently closing the door behind him.

He took his seat opposite her and gulped down, eyes following her every move as he called out longily, "Ms. Sutton."

Kelsie didn’t respond and pulled up his scan, turning her screen around for him to see.

"It’s gotten worse. I’m sure it showed signs, so why didn’t you come early?"

Serbian dropped the laptop bag he was with on the floor and leaned towards her desk.

Kelsie’s eyes naturally landed on the bag.

Was that the authorized device that wouldn’t crash the database?

"The truth? It wasn’t until five months ago I found the will to live again. Five months ago, I hoped I’d be dead in six months’ time."

"So what does it really mean? The doctor said a lot of things that morning, but I didn’t really grasp them. I’m dying, ain’t I?"

Kelsie turned the screen to herself again and stared into his face as she said, "The hospital has been working on a few things to increase the success rate of hypothalamic hamartoma surgeries. You’ll be fine after the surgery."

In response, Serbian gaped sheepishly, "God, I missed you. I missed you lecturing and scowling at me as a form of rejection."

However, Kelsie sighed in exhaustion.

"Hypothalamic hamartoma is too serious to take lightly. Until you have the surgery, you shouldn’t overwork or think too much."

"I’d suggest to spend your entire time resting until the surgery is done and you’ve fully recovered."

Serbian felt the space in-between his brows and leaned backward.

"I heard there are drugs to suppress it for a while. Prescribe them for me."

Kelsie stared at him coldly.

"Are you saying to let you die?"

"Will it make you sad if I die?"

"I already told you you don’t have to."

"If I refuse to have this surgery and eventually die, will that make you even a little sad, Kelsie?"

Kelsie paused and sucked in a deep breath before looking away from him.

"I’ve pushed back some minor surgeries. In the meantime, I’ll give you something to deal with the pain before your surgery on tuesday next week."

"What surgery? I’m not having any surgery."

"And why won’t you have any surgery?"

"What’s the use of living if the woman I love won’t love me back?"
