Chapter 166 Preference Or Guilt?

Chapter 166: Chapter 166 Preference Or Guilt?

Five years ago, Jett had donated a building to the hospital. After deliberations on what to use it for, it was decided that it’d be used as a relaxation center for the hospital staffs.

This was where Kelsie and every other staff in surgery were.

After changing out of her clothes with the rest of the female staffs, she paused when she stepped into the women’s room only to see a masseur.

The female staffs immediately turned to each other in disbelief.

"They really did bring him! But why? Didn’t they say it’s too expensive to hire him?"

"Our department must’ve made quite a lot of money if they ate their words and hired him."

"We should work harder in the future so this handsome man can continue looking after us."

While the women proceeded to lay on the provided bed, Kelsie remained rooted to the spot.

After a while, one of the women realized she wasn’t with them and glanced towards the door in surprise.

"What are you doing, Dr. Sutton? Don’t just stand there when you’ve been working so hard recently. You should come lay down so this masseur can relax that tense body of yours."

The other women bobbed their heads in agreement.

"We’ll wait until he’s done with you. We’re not shameless enough to let the hospital’s money maker go last just because we’re older."

"You should hurry up. We don’t have all the time in the world, you know."

However, Kelsie didn’t budge and just forced on a smile.

"I wasn’t told it’d be a masseur. A man."

The women glanced at each other in confusion.

"What? We all agreed to it sometime ago. A masseur tend to us while a masseus tend to the male doctors."

Kelsie calmly nodded in understanding, her eyes settling on the masseurs face as she directly apologized, "Forgive me, but I prefer a woman."

The room instantly fell into an awkward silence.

Two of her colleagues slowly sat up, their brows wrinkling up in disbelief.

"Pa-pardon us, we didn’t know your preference."

"But there’s nothing we can do now. Even if there was, you’re the only one who wants a woman to tend to you. If we put a vote to it, you still won’t have your way."

"I understand. I’ll just get back to work then." Kelsie said and thinned her lips, promptly noticing the impatience on their faces.

She had just said she would leave, but why did it suddenly feel like they wanted her to leave more than ever?

They had been talking about anything and everything all these while and ignoring her, so why the sudden change?

Perphaps, did she say something worthy of gossip without realizing it?

Forget it.

There were rumors even when she didn’t say anything. How much more when she did.

But as she turned around to leave, the masseur quickly stopped her.

"Dr. Sutton, just think of me as a woman. I’ve been told I have really tender hands. I may be muscular and a hunk, but my hands are softer than anything you can imagine."

"Thank you for the reassurance, but I’ll still pass." She didn’t turn to look at him as she spoke and directly left the room.

She halted almost immediately as she came face-to-face with a gloomy Jett right outside the door.

Under the man’s intense gaze, she grew conscious of the short towel around herself and gripped it tighter.

"Mr. Adler, this is the women’s room. The men’s room is over..."

The door suddenly swung open at this moment, interrupting her.

Jett frowned hard seeing the masseur.

He was putting on a sleeveless shirt, which made his arm muscles flex whenever he moved his arm.

Ignoring the man standing with her, the masseur began speaking to Kelsie, all smiles, "I understand that you have a preference, maybe, because of something that happened in the past, but I’m not like those people."

Jett’s ears ticked, his sharp mind quickly putting everything together. The next second, a bright smile broke out on his face and he calmly slid both hands into his pockets.

"The lady said no. And her no means no. What do you not understand about that?"

The masseur didn’t spare him a glance as he retorted, eyes still pinned on Kelsie’s face.

"She’s not the first woman who has reacted this way, and each and everyone of them later came around."

"I’m just saying it’d be a shame to miss a great massage just because the person administering it is a man."

Jett scoffed in irritation and stood in front of Kelsie, glaring down at the man.

"Haven Medical Center doesn’t pay you to waste the time of their medical staffs. Why don’t you quit babbling and go do your job inside?"

The masseur, who was finally forced to look into Jett’s face, wss slightly angered and lashed out, "The women inside said she isn’t married, so who are you and why are you answering for her?"

Jett took step toward him, eyes darkening.

"I’m the guy who’s going to fire you and make sure you never land another gig anywhere else in this country if you don’t get back inside this minute."

The masseur had long noticed Jett’s authoritative demeanor, but recalling what the women inside said, he didn’t bother much about him.

But now, he clenched his teeth angrily and stormed back inside without a word.

Though he didn’t know who Jett was, he had worked on numerous high-profile people to mistake that authoritative tone.

As soon as he was gone, Jett held turned to Kelsie, a proud smile tugging the corners of his lips.

"So you didn’t stay because he was man. You must’ve recalled I was a masseur and thought it better to employ my services, not so?"

"I know you’re shy and will never admit it, so don’t answer that. Just never forget I’m a better masseuse than anyone you’d ever meet."

Kelsie’s lips twitched in amusement.

"You’re a man."

He cleared his throat noisily, gently tugging his ears as he began walking towards the women’s changing room with her.

"Really? Had you not mentioned it, I never would’ve noticed."

"I’ll go change." Kelsie ignored him and said instead.

Five minutes later, she emerged in her work clothes and left the building with him.

"Your hair looks good. It’s actually very good and didn’t take me long to know you must’ve gone to the hair salon last night."

"You have very keen eyes."

"They’re beautiful too." He quickly butted in. "I’m talking about my eyes."

Kelsie merely looked at him and made no comment. But seeing him grinning from ear-to-ear kept making her heart palpitate.

Right.

She couldn’t remember the last time she had a medical check-up. Did she suddenly have a heart problem?

After he left, she proceeded to do a full body scan, and while waiting for the result, went up to visit Jack Adler.

The elderly man clasped his hands pleadingly as soon as he saw her.

"Dr. Sutton, my tyrant of a grandson didn’t go to the date last night, so I deeply apologize for that."

"He fails to see the big picture here. He thinks he’ll be young forever and doesn’t need to have children of his own one day."

"You see, he has recently been seeing this woman with kids. And these days, what he cares about is just taking care of them."

"That punk doesn’t even mind that they’re not his biological children and is willing to put his position on the line for that woman."

"You might think I’m worrying for nothing, but the shareholders will never let him have his way for long."

"He might be able to survive in the midst of those wolves for a little while, but in the long run, even if I’m still alive, they’ll eventually find a way to kick him to the curb. It disheartens me just thinking of it."

Kelsie didn’t feel comfortable talking about another of his grandson when there was Jett, so she just waved the conversation aside with a small smile.

"It was a blind date, Mr. Adler. It’s understandable that he stood me up. It just goes on to show he can handle himself. So you should do the same."

Jack sighed regretfully and no longer said anything.

After making sure he was alright, Kelsie left to pick her children from school.

Leading them to the parking lot, a female teacher followed after them, calling out to Kelsie just before she got into the driver’s seat.

"You must be Kelsie Sutton, the triplets’ mother."

Kelsie paused, turning to face her properly.

"I am. Is there a problem?"

The woman nodded, placing a hand akimbo on her waist.

"Yes, there’s a problem. One of your sons, Jesse Sutton, was in my class today. We did quite a number of physical exercises which included karate and all, but Jesse only participated during chess."

Kelsie blinked, waiting for her to continue. When she didn’t, she squinted her eyes in confusion, "Okay?"

The woman immediately huffed angrily, "Okay? Your son sat through an entire three hours of exercises and only participated during one of our mental exercises and you don’t seem to find anything wrong with that?"

Though the teacher was practically screaming at this point, Kelsie remained collected and calm.

"Did you ask him why he didn’t participate in the physical exercises?"

"He doesn’t like to participate in violent activities. That was his response."

"There you have it. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to get back work in less than an hour."

She had just turned around when she heard the teacher mumbling in spite.

"Of course you’d say that. This is why I’m strongly against having children of single mothers enroll in this school."
