Chapter 159: Chapter 159 Something For The 8 O’clock News

If looks could kill, Kelsie had no doubt she’d be long dead from the daggers shooting out of Bryan Baker’s eyes.

Clearly, this man hadn’t gotten over the embarrassment from the restaurant four months ago.

As a matter of fact, he would grimace every now and then whenever his friends brought it up.

He worked so hard to get rid of the videos some people in the restaurant had taken just so it wouldn’t reach his family.

Because of Kelsie, he spent so much trying to maintain his image and now he was in debt.

But thankfully, he had the Baker family’s lawyers behind him.

It didn’t matter who Kelsie hired, as long as it was neither the Howard family’s lawyers or the Adler family’s lawyers, his Baker family could go head-to-head with literally every other family in Silicone Valley. So he had no doubt that he’d win the lawsuit.

However, the lawsuit was taking too long and he was getting impatient. So when he heard today was Laura’s birthday, he was elated to come.

This sly wench!

Now that he knew she had nothing to do with neither of those men, he won’t hold back and teach her a good lesson!

As if reading his mind, Kelsie stifled a bored yawn.

"I know you’re one to jump to meaningless conclusions, but you shouldn’t do that now. If your ego is bruised, talk it out with your fiancée who made the promise."

Bryan Baker’s face flushed and he took a step forward, lips twitching in anger.

"Are you calling me thoughtless?"

She shook her head sincerely.

"No, I said you like to jump conclusions."

His right hand instantly balled into a clenched fist as he barked furiously, "That’s the same thing!"

Kelsie wasn’t fazed and still calmly repeatedly, "They’re not."

Deborah hissed.

"Hey, stop talking back to Mr. Baker and just accept that you’re wrong! So what if your sister made that promise?"

"Didn’t I tell you younger ones tend to doubt their elder ones once in a while? You haven’t seen or spoken to your sister in four months, so it’s understandable that she got the wrong thought about you."

In response, Kelsie shook her index finger.

"Mother, you’ve got me all wrong. I didn’t do what I did just because she had those doubts about me and called me Jett Adler’s plaything. I’m not that petty."

"I did what I did because as a member of our Sutton family, we ought to always keep our word."

"If I listened to you and let her off so easily, what will our guests today say in their spare time?"

"Everyone already knows how well you raised Laura. If I didn’t do what I did, imagine what warped view they’d have on the years of discipline you struggled to install in her all these years?"

Though she didn’t want to admit it, Deborah clenched her teeth in realization, eyes darting towards the guests who’s shimmering eyes were eagerly watching them, ears wide open.

These gossipers.

Indeed, all they needed was a slip.

Their family had been doing too well after almost hitting rock-bottom four months ago.

They didn’t say it, but they all attended this birthday party just to see if the Sutton family were really doing better than before.

Any news about them was bound to make the 8 o’clock early morning news tomorrow.

Hence, Deborah gulped down and didn’t comment on the matter anymore.

Since they wanted something to gossip about, she would give them something to gossip about.

So throwing a glance Bryan’s way, she asked, "Mr. Baker, are you trying to say Kelsie is suing you?"

Bryan nodded without turning to look at her.

"You didn’t know? I caught Kelsie with Jett Adler and Serbian Howard in a restaurant. Just when I was trying to tell them she was a promiscuous woman with three children, she said she’d sue me."

"All I did was try to do some good and she got upset. Claimed I was jealous she was moving on after our engagement fell through."

Behind them, Jerry who had been silent the whole time, exhaled in relief.

Now that the focus was no longer on his family, he could finally breath well.

Slipping a hand into his pocket, he closed the distance between him and Kelsie, speaking into her face like it was only natural.

"Let’s address this matter one after the other. Today is your little sister’s birthday party, i wouldn’t want to ruin such an important day for her."

"First, apologize to your little sister and promise not to act out again. Then apologize to Mr. Baker. Do it right now!"

Folding both arms across her chest, she scoffed lightly, "You don’t have to make it so obvious you have a favorite child, father."

Things like this were usually murmured, but Kelsie didn’t bother to lower her voice, astounding everyone.

"What did you just say?" Jerry Sutton flared up, his eyes bulging with rage.

Unable to stand the close proximity any longer, Kelsie took a step backward before retorting.

"I didn’t act out. She said I could down drinks and foods on her if I could prove I’m not Jett Adler’s plaything. If you think I’m making this up just ask everyone here what happened."

"Are you calling mother a liar?" Laura immediately sneered from where she stood.

Deborah didn’t hesitate to chip in, "I may not be your birth mother, but I’ve always seen you as my daughter. Imagine how hurt I am to see you act this way!"

Kelsie’s lips twitched.

Oh, this level of shameless, how could anyone ever attain it?

Hearing Laura and Deborah was all Jerry needed not to take Kelsie’s words seriously, so he didn’t care to ask what happened and was even more infuriated with this stubborn daughter of his.

Those who had clearly heard Laura make that promise didn’t bother to step forward.

They were already struggling to win Laura back. Furthermore, they could clearly tell who Jerry’s favorite was between his two daughter.

So how could they dare to take Kelsie’s side.

"Kelsie Sutton, stop being cheeky and admit that you’re wrong!" Jerry’s eyes darkened and he raised his hand to slap her.

But it was at this moment that a tall figure suddenly appeared in front of her, grabbing his raised hand whilst he turned to Kelsie with a sullen smile.

"Ms. Sutton, we’ve been dating for two whole days and yet you came to this party without me? I’m heartbroken."
