Chapter 156: Chapter 156 Your ‘Reward’ For Being A Plaything

The music was low, but the loud laughter ringing from every corner made up for the lack of noise.

Recalling she told her children she’d be home early, she found a quiet corner and took out her phone to call them.

She spoke with them for a few minutes before getting up to find what to eat.

She took a bite from the lap of a fried chicken, but spat it out almost immediately, wincing in disgust as she wiped the side of her mouth clean with a serviette.

She tasted other things, but none tasted right to her tastebuds. Hence, she grabbed a bottle of non-alcoholic grape wine and went to a corner, taking her seat behind a group of young people her age.

She had just taken a sip when their conversations made it to her ears.

"Speaking of which, where is she? Shouldn’t she be here for her young sister’s birthday party?"

Kelsie naturally paused and glanced behind her shoulders.

Of course.

She just had to sit behind these people.

But that didn’t matter. They hired a bad chef and Jerry had said yesterday that all she had to do was show her face then leave if she wants to.

She was free to leave as long as she showed her face to them. So she dropped the wine and got to her feet, but paused when Laura’s small voice came up.

"Father said he told her yesterday. She promised him he’d come, so I’m surprised she still isn’t here."

One of the people with Laura heard her and in a bid to make up for ignoring her for the past four months, laughed mockingly and chipped in, "She must want to make a grand entrance by being late."

"Now that she’s lost all that weight, she must want everyone who didn’t acknowledge her in the past to know she’s no longer that way. What an irritating mindset."

Deborah cleared her throat noisily, saying half-heartedly, "That is all in the past. While I’m glad she lost weight, I’m hoping she doesn’t use her newfound beauty the wrong way."

Laura hurriedly waved her off like though she had brought up something forbidden.

"Don’t bring that up, mother. Kelsie may be going out with a man who’s into men, but that doesn’t mean anything. It’s a man’s natural instinct to feel attracted to a beautiful woman."

"So who cares if he’s just using her? As long as she feels good about herself and is able to afford that expensive apartment building, it’s alright."

"He even bought her way into Haven Medical Center. She’s benefiting a lot from just giving her body to..." She suddenly trailed off and gasped dramatically, both hands flying to cover her mouth like though she had said all that without realizing it.

Then she smiled nervously, feigning desperation as she attempted to rephrase everything she had just said.

"My goodness. I’ve said to much. Don’t pay attention to me. My sister isn’t that kind of person. Even if she is, she really isn’t that bad."

"She must have a reason for being like this. I’m sure we just need to see things from her perspective to understand better."

Kelsie, who had just gotten on her feet, couldn’t help scoffing loudly.

So this was why Laura insisted she come.

The plan was to make her the subject of the evening and get off on seeing these followers of hers trash talk her.

She thought them going four months without seeing each other would make this little sister of hers less obsessed with her.

But that little break seems to have made the obsession worse.

This pathetic little girl.

Someone happened to glance towards her direction at this moment and murmured in confusion, "Wait, isn’t that your sister, Kelsie Sutton?"

Everyone’s eyes naturally darted towards her.

A cold glint flashed past Laura’s eyes just before she hurriedly got to her feet and went over to hook arms with Kelsie.

"Big sister, when did you get here? I’ve been looking at the door this whole time waiting for you, but you actually came in without me or anyone else noticing. Don’t be like that. You should’ve come to us as soon as you walked in."

Laura had hooked and tried to hook arms with Kelsie numerous times in the past and all of the time, Kelsie always moved away.

They knew it was because she didn’t like physical contact with people she didn’t like, but would spurn the narrative to her being insecure about her body.

So Laura did the same today, impatiently counting in her mind for Kelsie to move away, but to her and Deborah’s surprise, Kelsie merely looked down at her with a faint smile.

"I didn’t come up to you as it seemed you were having a lot of fun talking about me and things I didn’t do."

"You’ve gotten so better at making such stories that I almost believed it really happened to me."

She paused and sucked in a deep breath. Completely ignoring Laura’s twitching eyelids, she sighed and continued, "I remember telling you not to be so obsessed with me the last time we met."

"But I’m elated to know to know you still think so much of me. Unfortunately, not a lot of people will appreciate a personality like yours from their young one."

"Me inclusive. You’re already an adult, when do you intend to change and become a decent human?"

The group instantly fell silent.

Laura was rendered speechless.

"This little... where did you learn to talk like that? Are you saying your little sister was badmouthing you? What do you take her for?" Deborah couldn’t control her anger and flared up in righteous indignation.

Kelsie raised her eyes to meet her’s, an innocent smile creeping onto her face.

"Oh, she wasn’t? Forgive me, then. Though I could’ve sworn saying where I live now and the hospital I work at is the reward I get for giving my body to someone who’s into his fellow man is exactly what Laura said earlier."
