Chapter 149: Chapter 149 The Wealthy Man Worse Looking Than An Ape
As if on cue, another call came in while she was talking with Asher Rowe.
Seeing the name she hasn’t seen in the past four months sprawled across her screen, she didn’t know when she chuckled.
"I see you’ve finally learnt how to use your phone." Jerry Sutton’s disgruntled voice came up as soon as the call connected. fre\e(w)ebn ov.e l\. co.m
Kelsie said nothing.
Jerry hissed loudly, quickly assuming she thought he called to ask for help just like he had been doing.
"Don’t you worry, Kelsie. I didn’t call to ask for your help. You already made it clear four months ago and the months following it that you don’t care what happens to your father."
"I should loathe you for leaving your sister and I to hang four months ago, but I won’t. You know why? Because I’m your father and you’re my daughter."
"And I’ve called today to invite you to your little sister’s 23rd birthday which is tomorrow. I doubt you even remember."
Kelsie’s lips twitched slightly.
As if she’d remember? What a joke. Every birthday party Laura had in the past were all celebrated in grand style.
One time, Laura whined about how her friend’s birthday party was grander than hers. So Jerry maxed out his savings that year and even took out a bank loan.
And her birthday? Neither Jerry nor his wife and daughter knew when it was.
It still didn’t bother her that they never celebrated it with her, but after being away from this gaslighting family of hers, she finally realized how exhausting it is to listen to them.
Snapping back to her present, she glanced at the time and yawned slightly.
"You still remember you have a little sister, don’t you? She doesn’t hold it against you that you left her to fend for yourself and even did nothing as Jett Adler sued us as well."
"You’ve not done anything for her as her big sister, yet she is willing to invite you to celebrate with her on such a happy day. So don’t you dare miss it for ajythong."
The words had just rolled off his tongue when Kelsie smacked her lips disinterestedly.
"I have patients to see tomorrow."
The man sneered almost immediately, "The party is in the evening. I know you’ll be done from work before then. So don’t make your little sister sad and make sure you’re here."
"All you have to do is show your face at the party and support her. Surely, that isn’t above you, is it?"
When he put it like this, it was impossible for Kelsie to refuse.
He already nitpicked and called her out for being an unfilial daughter when she does nothing.
If she refused and gave him an actual reason, she had no doubt he’d forever hold it against her.
"What time is it and where is it being held?"
"6pm. Our Sutton family’s residence."
She hummed and was about to hang up when he suddenly added, "Your children. Bring your children."
The next second, the beeping tone of the disconnected call echoed in her ear.
Her children? Since when was he interested in her children?
She shook his words to the back of her mind, lowering her eyes to her phone again only to see an email from her children’s school saying all three of them, along with every child in the school were being transferred to another school.
She paused and looked up in confusion.
The part about her children being transferred was understandable, but the entire school? Strange. Did the school burn down or something?
She didn’t ponder much about it and continued reading the email.
To compensate for the stress, their uniforms and books would be for free and and she didn’t have to pay an entire session’s worth of school fees for any of them.
Moving down on the chair behind her, she browsed the said new school.
A knock sounded on the door at this moment and Amy Meyer got up to check it.
A moment later, she stood in front of Kelsie with two transparent leather bags.
"Did you order food?"
"Food?" Kelsie repeated, pausing to look at Amy.
"Someone just delivered these. Oh, there’s a card here." Amy retorted, plucking out the card and handing it to her.
Unfolding the card, Kelsie swept her eyes through it before crumpling it up.
Amy was startled.
"Is anything the matter?"
A faint smile tugged the corners of Kelsie’s lips as she shook her head, "Not at all. Don’t eat it. I’ll order new food."
Like an obedient child, Amy handed the two bags to her and returned to the triplets.
As this was going on, Jett was getting an earful from his grandfather with Boyce and Daniel in the room.
Boyce sat across Jett while Daniel sat beside his brother fidgeting with his phone.
Jack paced around in silence, hand clasped behind him.
The air was too heavy and uncomfortable for Daniel, so he logged into a game to relax.
Jack Adler finally stopped pacing around and faced Jett squarely.
"I didn’t raise you to be so well-mannered so you can throw away your youth raising another man’s children."
"Perhaps, could it be you’re in desperate need of a woman’s touch and she happens to give it to you?"
Jett thinned his lips, refusing to say a word in response.
Across him, Boyce scoffed slightly.
"Cousin, aren’t you too big to know what she’s after? Clearly, she knows you’re Jett Adler and can afford to provide her and her children with everything they want. If all she has to do is sleep with you, she would gladly do it."
Jett’s cold eyes snapped towards his direction, subconsciously making him jump.
When he realized this, he returned to his previous position and gritted his teeth in righteous indignation.
"What is that look for? You know better than anyone how women throw themselves at your feet."
"You think it’s because you’re handsome? Spare me that! I’ve seen literal Greek gods walking on dusty streets and no woman ever approaches them. Why? Because they have no money."
"That is why a man who looks worse than an ape has many women clamoring to be his wife."
Jett nodded in understanding, a thoughtful look in his eyes as he asked, "So, what category do you fall under?"
Boyce huffed, "Excuse me?"
Jett maintained his unwavering serious face as he calmly waved him aside.
"Since you’re not the handsome Greek god walking on the street, then you should be the wealthy man worse looking than an ape, not so?"
Boyce’s face flushed with anger, while Daniel burst into laughter.
