Chapter 126: Chapter 126 Very Important Patient

Haven Medical Center

Kelsie sat behind a desk in her office, a boy of no more than 17 sitting across her, fidgeting with his fingers.

She stared at his panic-stricken face and sighed softly, "I don’t see your parents or guardian anywhere. I’m obligated to tell them the result of your scan since you’re still a minor."

The boy clenched his jaw, slightly leaning towards the table, "I’m an only child. My father is no more and my mother is currently in a nursing home."

Kelsie’s eyes dimmed a little. "Is that so?"

Grabbing her desk with both hands, he probed her, "Doctor, just tell me what the scan said. I can take the news."

Kelsie was silent for a moment before she turned her computer around, revealing the brain scan on it.

"You have a tumor in your brain."

"A tumor? So I need surgery." He laughed nervously.

Kelsie turned the screen back to her, shaking her head gently.

"The tumor is malignant. I can only remove as much as possible during the surgery. Since it’s located on your frontal lobe, I won’t be able to remove everything as the tumor could be entwined with an artery or nerve."

"So will I be fine after the surgery?"

"The tumor is malignant which means it’ll grow back. Possibly at a rapid pace l."

The boy immediately silent before he smiled bitterly, "How long will I live after having a surgery or if I don’t?"

Kelsie replied, "12-18 months if you have surgery, and about 5 years with aggressive treatment. If you don’t have surgery, you’re looking at 3-6 months and 9-12 months with intense chemotherapy."

He went silent again, lowering his eyes to the floor as tears stung the corners of his eyes.

"Can I have time to think about it?"

"Of course." Kelsie nodded and took out a pen and paper. "In the meantime, I’ll prescribe you some drugs to get at the pharmacy. It’s to slow down the spreading of the tumor until you’ve made a decision."

He took it, thanked her and left. Minutes after he did, someone else walked in.

At 2pm, she was done with consultation and left to the cafeteria to have lunch.

"The doctor who was scouted from outside, is that her?"

"I hear the president personally hired her. She must be close with him."

"She has such a pretty face, no wonder."

Kelsie paid no heed to the talks going around as she walked to sit at an empty temple.

Three months already and these doctors constantly made her the subject of their discussion every single day.

For people as busy as them, she wondered how they had the time to spread such baseless rumors.

Oh, well, she just had to endure it until she got her hands on her mother’s file.

"There she is!" Someone suddenly said behind her, but she didn’t turn to know why.

Shortly after, a man in a black tuxedo sat opposite her.

Seconds later, Jett moved his face closer to hers, sighing, "What? Did you get leaner? Don’t tell me you’ve been so busy you thought it was alright to skip meals?"

"You really can get into anywhere, can’t you?"

"Most times, yes. Why? Are you not happy to see me?"

"I’m not."

"This snobby attitude of yours is why you have no friends. Look around, you’re the only one having lunch alone."

"I’m not complaining."

"When do you get off work?"

"Why do you care?"

"Because I like you."

Kelsie paused, her grip on the spoon tightening.

The next second, she got up and tried to leave, but the man promptly followed her.

He followed her around the entire day, the day after and the day after.

He followed her aroun for a full week that another rumor spread throughout the department. A rumor she didn’t bother to know what it was about.

That morning, there were just a few people who came for a consolation. After checking up on her patients, she headed to the front desk.

"I’ve been meaning to ask, does the archives have files on our patients?"

The nurse nodded.

"Yes, there is, but the roof of the archive had a leak ten years ago and the entire room got flooded, some of the files got ruined. Luckily, we already had copies of every oneof them on the hospital’s database."

Before Kelsie could say anything, a female surgeon walked to stand beside her, yawning tiredly, "Everything you’re looking for in the archive is in the hospital database. Why don’t you just check there?"

"I memorize better when it’s physical copies." Kelsie responded calmly, then turned back to the nurse, "Please take me to the archive. I’ll scavenge through what I can."

The nurse nodded and led the way. A minute later, they were inside the archive room.

Pointing at the files, the nurse explained, "The names are in alphabetical order. There are hundreds of them. Should I bring you a first year or intern to help you look through them?"

"No, it’s fine. They must be busy with work. Since I have nothing else planned for the day I’ll just go through these." Kelsie casually waved her aside.

"Oh, alright. If you need anything, call me with the telephone." The nurse said conclusively and left the room.

As soon as she closed the door behind her, Kelsie hurried over to the archive rack labeled with the letter F.

She carefully went through them one after the other, but at the end of the day, there was no one with her mother’s name.

Although already expecting it, she still went through them a second time just to be sure she hadn’t missed a file the first time.

But just like the first time, she didn’t find it.

Sighing, she began returning the room to its original state.

The president and vice president already had a few of their people keeping tabs on her. Meaning they were watching her every move and the individuals she looked up in the hospital’s data base.

The minute she searches up Lois Fletcher, they’d descend on her.

And Callum wasn’t an option since they’d know right away it was all her.

Exhaling heavily, she left the archive room when she was done putting it back to normal.

The female doctor who had spoken to her earlier was still there.

This time, she didn’t bother pretending she was there for something and outrightly asked, "You stayed there quite a long time. What were you searching for?"

Meeting her eyes, Kelsie made up smooth lie on the spot.

"One of my patients has surgery in a week. He has no idea if his father had a genetic illness he might’ve passed on to him."

"So I was going through the files to see if his father had made the hospital his go-to hospital."

The doctor’s eyes reeked of disbelief, but she said nothing else and just walked away.

Seconds after she left, another nurse who was behind the desk, whispered consolingly to Kelsie, "Dr. Meyer isn’t that bad. She just has a strong dislike for those who come into the hospital with their connections and..."

"And everyone believes I have connections with the hospital’s founders. I’ve been hearing that for over three months." Kelsie interrupted, finishing the sentence for her.

The nurse smiled awkwardly.

"No need to feel guilty, I understand." Kelsie chuckled softly and turned to walk back to her office, deep in thought.

She snapped out of thought when someone stood on her front of her.

"Dr. Sutton."

The frown on her face eased when she saw it was the department’s head.

"Sir."

"It has come to my attention that you finish your consultations by this time every week, is that true?"

"Yes, sir. To the best of my knowledge, that isn’t against the hospital’s policy in anyway,"

"I didn’t come to reprimand you, Dr. Sutton. I’m here to commend you."

"Is that so? Thank you, sir."

The man hummed before delving to the reason he was there. "The doctor who takes care of one of our major shareholders is currently out of town."

"So the hospital is sending another doctor as capable as him to go take care of his patient."

"And you want that person to be me?" Kelsie completed, raising a question brow.

The middle-aged man nodded.

"You’ve been here for almost four months and you’ve proven to be better than most people who were here before you."

"The hospital will be rest assured if you’re the doctor who treats this patient. You don’t mind, do you?"

Kelsie shrugged, "The hospital has already made its decision. Why do you ask like I have a choice?"

The man laughed awkwardly, patting her gently on the shoulder.

"The car and the nurse who’ll be assisting you are already outside. Do a good job."

"I will try my best, sir." She said, bowing to him slightly.

She stopped by her office to take her phone before heading outside.

The van drove off once she was inside.

"Dr. Sutton, have you seen this patient before?" The nurse asked giddily, transferring herself beside Kelsie.

Kelsie didn’t think too much about it and immediately shook her head in refusal, "This will be my first time."

The nurse laughed excitedly.

Leaning back and crossing her legs atop the other, she smacked her lips dreamily, "I’ve only seen and heard from a select number of people what he looks like. I can’t believe I’ll finally have a memory of him to live off of."

An uninterested Kelsie merely hummed, "You’re very excited about this."

She promptly sat up and nodded vigorously, "You have no idea, Dr. Sutton. They say he’s the most handsome man in our country and he’s the bachelor of the year. It’s a great honor to see him!"

Kelsie no longer said anything.

About thirty minutes later, the van stopped and she alighted to find herself in a familiar vicinity.

Frowning slightly, she asked the driver, "Are you certain this the right place?"

He promptly showed her the address that had been given to him by the hospital.

"I am, doctor. This is the apartment building he lives in. Jett Adler’s apartment is the 50th floor."
