Chapter 109: Chapter 109 It’s Not My Fault Your Mother Isn’t Dead
Judging eyes instantly began flying towards his direction, their impression of him changing drastically.
Jerry was rendered speechless.
The next moment, his eyelids twitched in anger as he pointed a trembling finger at her.
"Kelsie Sutton, watch what you say to me in public!"
Kelsie stared at him wide-eyed, suddenly appearing innocent as she glanced at the crowd in confusion.
He brought up any and everything he could use to win her in this argument. He didn’t even mind defaming her.
But when she asked him a single question, he was close to flipping out? And what was so wrong about what she asked?
Ten seconds later, she gently massaged the space in-between her brows tiredly, shaking her head apologetically.
"I didn’t know that was supposed to be a big secret. Forgive me."
A small number of people turned to each other in realization.
"Forgive her? She hasn’t done anything so why is she asking for forgiveness?"
"I understand it now. She was maltreated as a child. Think about it. Why is her sister and parents living together while she’s living in an apartment building alone?"
"And her mother is no longer alive. Doesn’t that mean Laura is her step-sister and her mother is her step-mother? I thought she was chiding her a little too harshly. It makes sense now."
Laura couldn’t stand that Kelsie really had supporters.
She was so infuriated with them suddenly finding Kelsie pitiful that she broke through their midst, screaming at them.
"Wh-what are you all talking about? No one maltreated Kelsie when she was young. She just has an inferiority complex because she grew up fat!"
Jerry nodded in agreement.
"Do you know what our family went through because of her? So what if I had her transfer her shares to me? I’ve been taking care of her for the past 19 years."
"Even when she got preg..." It was at this moment that Kelsie rudely cut him off.
"Don’t be this shameless, father. I have all accounts of everything you sent to me seven years ago and accounts of the foods, drinks, and clothes I wore while staying in our Sutton family house before then."
"If I bring those accounts to you, you’ll see they’re worth nothing compared to the shares you forced me to transfer to you."
For the second time in less than ten minutes, she got him off-guard again.
Hearing that she had the receipt of everything scared him greatly as he knew very well he spent very little when it came to her.
The money he often sent to her while she was abroad with her children, he repeatedly slashed them until the peanuts he was sending became unable to feed a growing child.
If Kelsie brought those receipts, not only might he be forced to return the shares to her under the probing eyes of this many people, but Jett Adler might see him as a scheming businessman and make the decision not to get involved with him in the future.
Unable to defend himself, he gritted his teeth and glared hard at her. "This impudent brat! How dare you cut me off while I’m still speaking?!"
Deborah also stepped forward to shamelessly chime in, "If you knew what he sent every month was too little for you, why didn’t you complain? Your father isn’t a psychic who’d be able to read your mind from abroad."
Kelsie pulled on a pondering face, retorting in amusement, "In what universe is five thousand dollars enough for an entire month?"
Deborah sneered, "Five thousand dollars is more than enough. You don’t know how to earn money, so how could you really be complaining your father never sent you enough to splurge on with your friends?"
Kelsie nodded in understanding before uttering, "So you’re saying if i check Laura’s account history, what you send to her every month is less than five thousand?"
Deborah blinked speechlessly at the comparison. But the next second, she snickered.
"You compare yourself to your little sister. Unlike you, she’s still growing and needs a lot of things to take care of herself properly."
The corners of Kelsie’s lips spasmed hearing her.
"Funny you say that. I don’t remember ever splurging in my life and I’m just 24. Didn’t you know I also needed a lot of things to take care of myself properly?"
Deborah met her eyes, harrumphing in disdain.
"Unlike you, Laura doesn’t have shares like the one your late mother left for you. If we give her the same allowance we give you, how do you think that would make her feel?"
Kelsie went mum for several seconds, leading them to conclude they had won this fight.
Jerry then turned to speak to Jett Adler with a flattering, but paused when he heard Kelsie murmuring audibly in confusion.
"It’s not my fault her mother’s still alive."
A bright smile instantly broke out on Jett’s face while Deborah’s face darkened.
"What was that? What did you just say to me?"
Kelsie glanced at her blankly.
"My dead mother left me her shares. You’re not dead yet, so your daughter doesn’t have her shares yet."
"It’s no secret that we will all eventually die, so I still don’t understand why I was given five thousand dollars a month while she got more than 200 percent of that."
Deborah was already fuming after hearing the first sentence.
"You stupid wench, how dare you curse me?"
Then she took off her shoe and aimed it at Kelsie’s head.
Kelsie wasn’t expecting such a bold move, so she reacted slowly.
However, a firm hand suddenly reached out and drew her out of the way, pulling her to his chest.
As Deborah became violent, a scared resident hurriedly called the security who dragged her out amidst screaming.
Jerry and Laura weren’t left out. Despite insisting they could walk on their own, the residents who had seen enough, refused and clamored after them, ordering the security to push them out quickly.
Just before they completely covered her train of sight, Laura glanced behind her and thought she saw the man and woman holding hands.
