Oops Alpha, Wrong Luna -
Chapter 39
Chapter 39: Chapter 39
Aria’s POV.
My eyes snapped to the door, my heart pounding so hard it felt like it would burst through my chest.
The knock echoed in the quiet room, sharp and sudden, making my breath hitch. My mind raced, replaying the scene in the hall; Celeste’s venomous words, "Well, guess who isn’t supposed to be Luna!"
Her threat to expose me as the wrong Luna, the gasps of the maids, and Seraphina’s silent entrance, her blank face haunting me.
Who was at the door? Seraphina, ready to spill my secret? Celeste, back to twist the knife? Or Kael, demanding answers? My hands trembled, gripping the sheets, my wolf Kyra whining, her fear matching mine.
The knock came again, louder, and a voice followed, soft but clear. "Luna?"
My shoulders relaxed, my breath easing as I recognized the voice, my maid, Lila.
My heart slowed, but my nerves were still tight, my body tense. "Come in," I said, my voice shaky but firm, my eyes fixed on the door as it creaked open.
Lila stepped in, her apron neat, her brown hair tied back, two other maids behind her, their arms full of fabric.
Lila held a dress, deep blue and shimmering, her eyes bright with a small smile.
"Luna, Beta Brian sent this for you," she said, her voice soft, her hands offering the dress. "For the charity event tonight."
I walked over, my bare feet cold on the stone floor, my hands reaching for the dress, its fabric soft under my fingers.
A smile spread across my face, wide and real, the anxiety fading like mist. Brian wouldn’t send me a dress without Alpha Kael’s orders.
This was Kael’s doing, a sign he still cared, despite his coldness that morning, his sharp words; Go to the room. Don’t cause a scene.
My heart warmed, Kyra purring softly, her hope sparking. I held the dress up, its blue catching the light, and turned to the mirror, my reflection smiling back, my silver hair loose, my eyes bright.
"Thank you," I said, my voice soft, my chest lighter.
The maids helped me dress, their hands quick, tying the laces, smoothing the fabric. The dress hugged my body, its neckline low, its skirt flowing, making me feel strong, like a real Luna.
I stared at my reflection, my smile growing, but my mind drifted to Celeste. She’d tried to seduce Kael, sneaked into his study, and he’d nearly choked her, thinking she was a mere Maid, sister to his Luna.
A laugh bubbled up, sharp and mean. She thought she could take him, take my place, but she’d failed, and I’d shown her who was in charge in the hall, sending her on errands, watching her sweat.
What was her next move? Would she try again, bolder, sneakier? My smile faded, my hands clenching, Kyra growling low, wary.
The door burst open, the sound loud, jarring, making me jump. The maids gasped, their hands freezing, their eyes wide.
Seraphina stormed in, her blonde hair glowing, her green eyes dark, glinting with malice, her red dress tight, her steps sharp.
My heart raced, fear creeping back, my breath short. Was this about the hall? Had she heard Celeste’s words, my secret? Her face was hard, her lips a thin line, and my stomach twisted, Kyra whining, urging me to stay calm.
"Leave," Seraphina said, her voice cold, her hand waving at the maids.
They hesitated, their eyes flicking to me, their faces nervous.
I nodded, my voice firm. "Go," I said, my eyes on Seraphina, my heart pounding.
The maids bowed, their steps quick as they left, the door shutting softly behind them, the room quiet, heavy with tension.
I faced Seraphina, my hands clenching the dress, my voice steady despite my fear. "What do you want?" I asked, my eyes locked on hers, searching for a hint of what she knew.
I thought she’d bring up the hall, Celeste’s threat, my secret, but her lips curled, a smirk forming, her voice sharp.
"You call that a dress?" she said, her eyes raking over me, her tone mocking.
"It’s pathetic. You’re unfit to stand beside Alpha Kael, you know that? A mere Gamma acting like the best Luna." Her words cut, her laugh cold, her eyes glinting with cruelty.
My heart stung, her words echoing Celeste’s taunts, my fear of being exposed, but relief hit me, hard and fast.
She hadn’t heard anything in the hall. Her entrance was just a coincidence, her malice just her usual hate.
My shoulders relaxed, my breath easing, Kyra purring, urging me to fight back.
I stepped closer, my smile sharp, my voice steady. "Funny, Seraphina," I said, my eyes narrowing.
"You talk about unfit, but who’s desperate to be noticed? Clinging to Kael’s side, acting like you’re family, when you’re just his foster sister?" My words were mean, my heart racing with defiance, my smile growing as her face twisted, her eyes flashing with anger.
I wasn’t the weak Aria anymore, not the Omega she could push around. I was Luna, and I’d match her venom.
Her hand shot up, her fingers curled, ready to slap me, her face red with rage. My heart jumped, but I moved faster, grabbing her wrist tight, my grip strong, making her wince, her eyes wide with shock.
"Don’t," I said, my voice low, sharp, my eyes burning into hers. I pushed her back, her body stumbling, her breath short.
"Mind your lane, dear sister-in-law," I warned, my voice cold, my hands shaking but strong.
I turned, grabbing my dress’s skirt, ready to leave, my heart pounding with satisfaction, my steps firm.
But just then, Seraphina’s voice stopped me, her words loud, cutting through the room.
"You know, I still can’t believe the wrong Luna who should be beheaded by now is still ruling the Shadow Claw pack beside Alpha Kael," she said, her tone sharp, malicious.
I halted, my breath catching, my eyes widening, my heart stopping.
The room spun, fear crashing over me, my hands trembling, Kyra whining, her panic loud.
She knew? Had she heard Celeste after all, or was this just a cruel guess?
Her words echoed Celeste’s threat, my secret teetering on the edge, and I couldn’t move, couldn’t breathe, my body frozen, my eyes fixed on the door.
