Chapter 32 - Chaoge Guild, Jade Horned Serpent King
Chapter 32: Chaoge Guild, Jade Horned Serpent King
“Xue Ying, what’s going on? Why the hell does it sound like a bird call? Wasn’t it supposed to be a snake-type BOSS?!” Chaoge Zhou Wang asked.
“Boss, it is a giant snake. I can’t help how it chooses to sound,” replied Xue Ying of Chaoge helplessly.
He was clearly exasperated — this snake was by no means a normal monster.
“It was the same scene the last time I came here, but the pressure wasn’t this overwhelming.”
He wasn’t sure if it was just his imagination, but the shockwaves this time seemed even more intense. Last time it only gave him the chills — this time, it caused actual damage…
Keep in mind, they were still 200 to 300 meters away from the BOSS.
Who knew what it would feel like if they got any closer?
Getting ‘shouted’ to death by the sound alone wouldn’t be surprising.
The BOSS had a very strong sense of territorial awareness — this was likely its warning to invaders.
But no one backed down. This was the first high-level Silver-tier BOSS they had discovered. It was guaranteed to drop silver gear, and there was even a chance for gold equipment.
They pressed onward. When they reached the deepest part of the canyon, the view suddenly opened up. A massive coliseum-like area appeared before them. On the cliff directly ahead was a huge cave, and inside it were two glowing red eyes staring right at them.
Everyone was startled by the sight. The creature in front of them seemed… a bit too large for a silver-tier BOSS…
Even Liu Lizhan, a top-tier player, couldn’t remain calm. He had seen Silver-tier BOSSes before, but never one this enormous.
“High-level assassins, scan the BOSS’s stats and lure it out while you’re at it,” the Zhou Wang snapped back to his senses and immediately issued the order.
Soon, an assassin crept forward.
[Jade Horn Serpent King]
Quality: Silver-tier BOSS (Undergoing Evolution)
Level: ???
HP: ???
Attack: ???
Description: The Jadehorn Serpent molts once every thirty years. With each molt, its strength increases dramatically. Before the transformation is complete, it enters a weakened state, and all stats decrease by 20%.
“Holy crap! It’s evolving?!” One Chaoge player stumbled back in panic, legs giving way.
“Idiot! Open your damn eyes — it says evolving, not evolved!” Another player smacked him across the head.
“Haha! Heaven truly favors our Chaoge Guild! We actually ran into a BOSS during its weakened period! Hahaha, heaven is smiling upon me too…”
Zhou Wang burst into uncontrollable laughter. It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to run into a weakened BOSS due to evolution — clearly, even the heavens supported Chaoge.
“Jiannan, we can suppress the BOSS’s HP below 3%, then let it finish evolving. If it upgrades to gold-tier, then it’ll definitely drop gold gear!” Chaoge’s general said excitedly.
When a monster evolves, its strength increases by 50%, turning it into an elite monster.
Likewise, if a BOSS evolves, it could upgrade to a higher quality tier. Though rare, the possibility existed. More commonly, it would simply stay in the same tier but gain stat increases.
Either way, any evolution meant greater rewards for players.
“Gold gear…”
The Zhou Wang smirked, eyes locked onto the Jade Horn Serpent King being lured out by the assassin. The BOSS had grown in size but had reduced stats — this was the perfect time to strike.
With gold gear in hand, I’d like to see that bastard Lone Ranger act cocky in front of me again. I’ll strip him of every piece of equipment he has. In the China region… no, in the entire world, who could possibly keep up with Chaoge Guild?!
With that thought, he turned to Liu Lizhan beside him and smiled, “Brother, everything rests on you this time.”
“Leave it to me!”
Liu Lizhan’s eyes were full of resolve. He raised his shield and charged toward the Jade Horn Serpent King.
“Everyone, coordinate with Liu Lizhan in staggered waves. Priests, monitor his HP. This fight revolves entirely around him!” the Zhou Wang barked orders.
All Chaoge Guild players immediately fell into their pre-arranged formation.
The sole responsibility of the MT (Main Tank) and Priest players was to keep up with Liu Lizhan’s position. If his HP dropped too low, the second wave of MTs would immediately take over aggro, and Priests would quickly heal him up.
As the core of this battle, Liu Lizhan’s survival would determine the outcome. After all, this was a level-20+ BOSS — ordinary MTs wouldn’t last a second.
Five hidden-class players served as the main DPS, with nearly thirty archers and mages handling ranged support.
Several assassins circled the battlefield, providing crowd control. The moment a stun effect landed, everyone would unleash a burst combo.
Liu Lizhan, being a high-tier hidden-class MT, wielded a shield capable of reducing an additional 25% of damage when blocking properly. Paired with his all-defense build and a full set of bronze and silver equipment, his defense was monstrous.
Even the Silver-tier Jade Horn Serpent King couldn’t break through his shield.
…
Judging by their setup, taking down the BOSS shouldn’t be a problem — the main factor is Liu Lizhan’s formidable tanking.
Jiang Chen opened his quest map. It seemed the location matched exactly — his target was the Jade Serpent Orchid, and the BOSS was the Jade Horn Serpent King. There was likely a strong connection between the two…
After a moment’s thought, Jiang Chen made a decision: Kill-steal the BOSS and eliminate the players!
The grudge between him and the Chaoge Guild was already as deep as a swamp — hitting them when it hurt was the only proper move.
Besides, once they killed the BOSS, they’d definitely sweep the cave for loot. If his quest herb was inside, a head-on conflict would be inevitable, and the outcome uncertain.
First, they had too many players — all elite.
Second, with Liu Lizhan acting as an immovable tank, breaking through his defenses would take time — time enough for the ranged team to unleash multiple volleys. A direct confrontation was not an option.
To Jiang Chen, the most troublesome ones weren’t even the tank or mages — it was the assassins. If they all entered stealth and launched a surprise attack, he might not make it out alive.
As an archer, HP was still his biggest weakness.
After weighing his options, Jiang Chen decided to strike when Liu Lizhan’s HP was in the danger zone — take him out first, then eliminate a few assassins. Once that was done, the battle would be his to command.
…
-67!
-99!
-77!
-59!
…
Behind the MT, the archers and mages were pouring out attacks. Though each hit dealt limited damage, they were managing to chip through the BOSS’s defenses. With fifty players in the team, their DPS added up to two or three thousand per second.
At this pace, the BOSS would be slowly worn down for sure.
Thinking that, morale surged — everyone fought with renewed vigor.
