Chapter 313: Chapter 313: Being Good-Looking is of No Use either

Zhao Jing, a prominent figure at Beijing University, was good-looking and academically excellent. He had already been recommended for direct admission to a master’s and doctoral program and was a well-known figure throughout the entire school.

He was also a favorite of the teachers.

Even Ding Xuexue had long admired him, but he hardly paid special attention to anyone, spending all his time in the teachers’ laboratories, becoming a legend that everyone looked up to.

She hadn’t expected him to show up today.

"Senior Zhao!" Ding Xuexue couldn’t help but greet him with a flushed face.

Zhao Jing had come from Beijing First Middle School, which made him a senior that Ding Xuexue had met before; they had some connection.

She wondered to herself if Senior Zhao had come specifically to welcome her.

It wasn’t impossible. Although they were several years apart and hardly spoke a few words to each other, they were after all alumni of the same middle school.

It would be quite normal for her to draw the attention and favor of other seniors, with Senior Zhao looking upon her with special regard.

With that thought, Ding Xuexue immediately ran over to Zhao Jing’s side and shyly said, "Senior Zhao, I’ll have the materials filled out very soon and will hand them to you right away."

"Just give them to them," Zhao Jing glanced at her, his gaze unfocused, obviously not recognizing her.

Ding Xuexue couldn’t help feeling embarrassed.

"Senior Zhao, this is Ding Xuexue, a junior from First Middle School."

Someone immediately introduced her for him.

Hearing this, Zhao Jing nodded, acknowledging the introduction as if to say he understood.

Finally, his gaze settled on his target: "Xiaozhe!"

Jiang Zhe looked up, her materials already completed.

The usually expressionless Zhao Jing smiled, "What brings you here? I prepared all your materials."

Ding Xuexue was stunned. How did Jiang Zhe know Zhao Jing?

The others couldn’t help but be surprised as well. Everyone knew of Zhao Jing’s aloofness. He seldom interacted with others at school, so how could he be so familiar with this unknown girl?

Many who knew him were aware that he only liked to focus on research, and rarely showed a smiling face, yet now he was exhibiting such a mild demeanor.

"I’m just following the procedure to check in," Jiang Zhe said, "and the materials are to be given to?"

"Just give them to me," Zhao Jing reached out to take them, "Professor Gao has been waiting for you for quite a while, let’s go over."

"Okay," Jiang Zhe gathered her pen and walked over to Zhao Jing’s side.

"This way," Zhao Jing led Jiang Zhe away.

The crowd watched in surprise as Zhao Jing accompanied Jiang Zhe away.

The high school students attending the independent examination didn’t know who Professor Gao was.

But Ding Xuexue and other seniors were well aware that Professor Gao was one of the top teachers and scholars at Beijing University, as well as one of the most respected teachers.

Ding Xuexue had never had the chance to meet Professor Gao, but that unknown female student had been personally chosen to meet him!

However, upon reflection, her temperament, actions, and expressions seemed to make it all within reason.

Only Ding Xuexue clenched her palm secretly. Jiang Zhe was personally received by Professor Gao because of Qin Jingchen’s connections, wasn’t it? It must be! She couldn’t persuade herself otherwise!

...

Jiang Zhe followed behind Zhao Jing.

Zhao Jing seemed somewhat excited, "Are you here for the examination?"

"Yeah," Jiang Zhe responded noncommittally.

"Will you be coming to our school?"

"It’s not certain," Jiang Zhe replied.

Zhao Jing highly recommended, "Our school has a good academic atmosphere, and the professors in various departments are excellent. You should really consider it."

As they spoke, they arrived at Professor Gao’s office.

Teacher Gao, named Gao Qiao, was a serious man, but he showed a smile when he saw Jiang Zhe, "You’re here?"

"Teacher Gao." Jiang Zhe walked over.

"You’re taking the test tomorrow to gauge the difficulty of this round of questions for me."

"We agreed that I’m only helping you with the test, I won’t come here to study." Jiang Zhe replied very casually.

Teacher Gao pointed at the tip of her nose, "You, oh you. I’ll treat you to dinner tonight, and have Zhao Jing arrange a hotel for you."

"I’ve got some other things to do, I’ll treat you next time."

"Indeed you have other matters." Teacher Gao said to Zhao Jing, "Look at her, she came here reluctantly for some other reason, otherwise it would be impossible to invite her."

Zhao Jing said with a smile, "Xiaozhe is busy, Teacher Gao, please be understanding."

After leaving Teacher Gao’s office, Jiang Zhe went to see Fu Qifang and gave him some data on a propulsion system.

One of Fu Qifang’s colleagues and students, who happened to be on the same path, accompanied her downstairs.

Speaking of Fu Qifang’s student, he was actually a professor in his fifties as well; he wasn’t researching with Teacher Fu at the top floor, but was instead working in a position downstairs.

"No need to see me out, Teacher Fang." Jiang Zhe was familiar with the place.

"I’m also heading down, I’ll accompany you," Teacher Fang said kindly, "I heard you don’t study in Beijing, do you have a place to stay?"

Jiang Zhe was about to speak when a female voice rang out, "Teacher Fang!"

"Mingzhu!" Teacher Fang looked towards his student Xia Mingzhu.

"Teacher Fang, this is..." Xia Mingzhu was momentarily astounded by Jiang Zhe’s appearance but couldn’t help being very curious.

"Oh, this is Fu’s guest, Jiang Zhe. Jiang Zhe, this is my student Xia Mingzhu, she’s working on research with me," Teacher Fang introduced them simply, not very clear on the relationship between Jiang Zhe and Fu Qifang, "I was just thinking of finding Xiaozhe a place to stay."

"Why not stay at my place?" Xia Mingzhu offered broadly, "My home has plenty of space."

Since she was a guest of Teacher Fu, Xia Mingzhu was quite willing to do this favor.

At the Aerospace Research Institute, who wouldn’t want to foster a good relationship with Teacher Fu?

"Xiaozhe, what do you think?"

"No need, I have a place to stay," Jiang Zhe declined politely.

Xia Mingzhu wasn’t too disappointed, "That’s all right then, just find me if you need anything."

But after saying this, she still couldn’t help but probe, "What did you need from Teacher Fu?"

Jiang Zhe looked like a high school student, and her uniform wasn’t even from a school in Beijing.

Someone like Jiang Zhe would hardly be a student of Teacher Fu, nor likely to be involved in any research with him.

She was quite curious.

"I had some things to discuss with him." Jiang Zhe did not elaborate.

Xia Mingzhu realized it wasn’t a teacher-student relationship, so it must be something else; it seemed unlikely they had a very close connection.

Being good-looking wasn’t that useful after all.

She quickly lost interest in Jiang Zhe and began discussing a couple of academic questions with Teacher Fang.

Jiang Zhe listened in as Xia Mingzhu asked some basic questions, so she looked down at her phone.

Teacher Fang was very pleased with Xia Mingzhu and patiently began discussing the questions with her.

By the time they reached the gates of the Aerospace Research Institute, they had almost finished their discussion.

Jiang Zhe said goodbye to them politely.

After Jiang Zhe left, Xia Mingzhu asked Teacher Fang, "That Jiang student is still in high school, right?"

"Yes, I heard she’s here to participate in the autonomous enrollment exam," Teacher Fang didn’t look down on Jiang Zhe; he thought the girl carried a certain presence, suggesting that her abilities weren’t lacking.

Now completely uninterested, he stopped asking further questions.

Jiang Zhe met with Pei Yuan to collect some medication before calling Jiang Xiruo.
