Chapter 293: Chapter 293: No Longer Interested in You
Jiang Zhe stood up and asked the teacher calling the numbers, "What about us?"
The teacher was just an assistant and wasn’t aware of the situation inside. He said, "I’ll go in and ask for you."
He ran inside, and the glasses-wearing teacher pushed his glasses up and said, "Tell them that not everyone who gets a number will necessarily have a real interview. Ask them to go back."
He came out quickly and relayed the message to Jiang Zhe.
Jiang Zhe, chewing her gum, said, "Why notify us to come if we’re not going to be interviewed?"
"Sorry, I really don’t know."
Jiang Zhe reached out to push the door.
The assistant teacher hurriedly tried to stop her but couldn’t hold her back at all.
The teachers inside were interviewing students, and they were all very surprised to see Jiang Zhe push the door open and come in.
She was wearing a uniform from Yizhong, seemingly a high school student.
Someone immediately recognized the student with the fox-like features in her eyes and brows, "It’s Jiang Zhe."
"Jiang Zhe, is there something you need?" asked the glasses-wearing teacher.
"Why notify them for an interview if they’re not going to be allowed to have one?"
Jiang Zhe’s tone was cold and arrogant, still chewing her gum.
"We’ve already explained that getting a number simply proves they passed the written test. It doesn’t guarantee a real interview opportunity..."
As he said this, the other teachers all looked towards Xiaoqi and Fang Ting.
They’d assumed that children from the orphanage with physical issues must be timorous, awkward in appearance, and uncomfortable to look at.
But the two children next to Jiang Zhe were nothing like what they had imagined.
Not only were they poised, but they were also delicately cute, extremely charming even though they were wearing very simple elementary school uniforms, lighting up the room instantly.
Even the glasses-wearing male teacher began to doubt whether he had been seeing things during the test. He clearly remembered these two children—one with an arm issue and the other with a leg problem, looking quite uncomfortable at the time.
But looking at them now, there seemed to be no issue at all?
Jiang Zhe threw the number tag in front of them, "Oh, really? Then I’m curious if there is really anyone else who, just like us, holding a number tag, is also not allowed to interview."
The teachers’ expressions all turned awkward in an instant, realizing their earlier thoughts were indeed incorrect.
How could they deny children with physical flaws even the chance to be interviewed?
Moreover, all the students holding number tags behind them were supposed to have interviews, and they couldn’t possibly mislead them.
They had hastily brushed off these two children because they came from the orphanage, but now they realized it was wrong.
The older teacher said, "Well then, since the children are already here, let’s give them a chance. Let them have the interview."
"What now, is this an exclusive opportunity or is it, as it should be, one they inherently had?" Jiang Zhe asked.
Seeing her pressing aggressively, the glasses-wearing teacher was getting a bit irritated, "Jiang Zhe, the opportunity has already been given, they now have the chance to interview. Are you trying to mess up their chance on purpose? There are so many people waiting behind, I hope you won’t delay anyone else’s time!"
"You were the ones who first wasted time!" Jiang Zhe said nonchalantly, though a cold light flickered in her eyes, "Can you answer my question? Is the interview inherently theirs, or was it a last-minute decision?"
"That’s not important, right?"
"It’s very important!" Jiang Zhe tilted her head, "It means whether all of you need to apologize to them, and whether your interviews are actually fair or not."
Some parents nearby hadn’t left, and upon hearing the word "shady," all pricked up their ears, fearing their own child might be delayed by such foul play.
Several teachers were becoming displeased, Jiang Zhe’s words were a blatant insult to the school’s process!
Jiang Zhe said, "No explanation? Not even an apology? So you’re admitting there’s been foul play?"
"Jiang Zhe!" The teacher with glasses shouted to stop her, "Fine, I admit it, we didn’t want them to have the interview. After all, they’re from the welfare institute and they come with underlying health issues. Such children can negatively affect the other students. We were considering the best interests of the majority."
Xiaoqi and Fang Ting bowed their heads, nervously fiddling with the corners of their clothes.
The other parents also fell silent, seemingly accepting his reasoning.
Jiang Zhe scoffed, "Are there any regulations that allow you to do this?"
Of course not.
The teacher with glasses was clearly considering his own interests.
It was just like how after seeing the two children, he felt that it was appropriate to offer them an interview opportunity. Everything was based on whether he felt it was appropriate or not.
The other teachers also felt he had gone too far, that there shouldn’t be such discrimination in the first place.
Now, pressed aggressively by Jiang Zhe’s questions, the situation had escalated to this point.
One of the teachers suddenly looked at Xiaoqi and Fang Ting’s grades and was astonished.
All of their scores were perfect.
This test had been particularly challenging, intended to screen for the top students in advance for the schools, with questions that were several levels harder than the usual exams.
Scoring ninety points was already considered very difficult.
To their surprise, these two children were tied for first place.
What school wouldn’t want such students?
They all regretted not looking into the situation thoroughly before and simply taking a colleague’s word for it.
"Jiang Zhe, look, we apologize; we were in the wrong. The interview will be arranged immediately. As teachers, we should treat all children equally," the older teacher tried to smooth things over.
"You think I can still believe in your impartiality? As for the violation, it’s on you," Jiang Zhe said to Xiaoqi and Fang Ting, "Let’s go."
The three of them walked out.
The teachers looked at each other, realizing they had met their match. They regretted not being able to keep the top students and also feared the repercussions of their actions, which were undoubtedly against the rules.
As they were at a loss, the principal of the middle school section walked over, beaming with questions, "Where are my two top students? The ones tied for first place, I came to interview them personally!"
Jiang Zhe gave him a glance, "No need, they’re not interested in schools in Jincheng."
The principal’s smile froze on his face, and immediately someone informed him about the situation. He glanced at the teachers in charge of the interviews, then turned and hurried after Jiang Zhe.
The teachers felt terrible, mixed with a sense of fear.
The principal followed outside to see Jiang Zhe surrounded by the principals of No. 2 Middle School and several other schools. There was no doubt they were all eager for the top students.
Jiang Zhe’s voice was ice-cold: "They’ve lost interest in Jincheng’s schools."
After speaking, the three boarded the car.
The principal of No. 1 Middle School watched their car drive away, filled with regret.
