Obsessive Tycoon and His Swan Girl -
Chapter 140 - 140 140 The Past is the Past
Chapter 140: Chapter 140: The Past is the Past Chapter 140: Chapter 140: The Past is the Past To Jiang Zhe, seeing Qin Feng more or less often wasn’t of much importance.
She stood up and said, “Well then, since there’s nothing else, I’ll take my leave first.”
This time, Qin Feng did not ask her to stay and said, “Alright, let Jingchen escort you out, I’m a bit tired.”
She deliberately gave them a chance to be alone.
Jiang Zhe didn’t mind, stood up with her long, dazzling legs that were extremely beautiful and striking, and walked straight out.
The place where she met with Qin Feng was the living room on the third floor where Qin Feng stayed. She had taken the elevator to get there, so naturally, she would take the elevator to leave.
When Jiang Zhe entered, she saw Qin Jingchen still behind her and stretched out her hand to hold the door open button.
The man walked in, towering a full head above her; his tie came sharply into her field of vision.
She quickly averted her eyes and pressed the button for the first floor without looking sideways.
Her gaze and actions were fully captured by Qin Jingchen, whose voice was low and mellow, “You don’t have an opinion about my tie?”
“I do,” Jiang Zhe looked up at him, “it’s quite a nice design.”
Qin Jingchen let out a light laugh, “I think so too.”
Suddenly, the elevator jerked to a halt halfway, causing a violent shudder.
Jiang Zhe braced herself against the elevator wall with one hand, steadying her stance.
Qin Jingchen stood very close to her; he casually wrapped his arms around her shoulders, encircling her in a half-hug.
It wasn’t the same oppressive feeling as last time, but rather a very solid sense of stability.
There was a faint smell of sandalwood on him, probably from his long-term avoidance of using the Buddha Beads bracelets. The wooden fragrance mixed with, yet surpassed the sandalwood, creating an indescribable scent that wasn’t unpleasant.
Jiang Zhe stood firm, but in the not-so-spacious elevator, she was still enveloped in his embrace.
She felt somewhat irritated; how could a perfectly fine elevator suddenly malfunction?
However, the presence of the embrace behind her was very strong, wrapping around her tightly.
The air carried a mix of unfamiliar yet somewhat familiar scents, reminiscent of certain ones Jiang Zhe had once felt from Qin Jingchen.
She frowned, reaching into her bag to touch the dagger there, then glanced at the elevator doors that remained shut.
His voice, like a whisper, came from behind her, “Don’t worry, I’m contacting my cousin.”
The elevator still had a signal, so getting in touch with someone wasn’t too difficult.
Jiang Zhe moved her hand away from the dagger and was about to ask him to let go, but her lips moved without making a sound.
Three minutes later, Qin Feng arrived with the butler, having the household staff pry the elevator doors open.
But the three-minute-long embrace was, for her, a bit too lengthy.
A brief flush crossed Jiang Zhe’s face before she regained her composure.
“I’m so sorry, Xiaozhe, I didn’t expect something like this to happen,” Qin Feng said with surprise, then turned to scold someone, “How do you usually maintain the elevators?”
“I apologize, young madam, it’s my fault,” the butler rushed to take the blame, “I’ll make sure all the elevators are checked immediately.”
Jiang Zhe took a deep look at Qin Feng, turned around without saying a word, and left.
Qin Jingchen didn’t immediately follow her but said to Qin Feng, “Xiaozhe came especially to see you and take care of you, and this is how you treat her?”
“I was thinking about how back in the day, you and your brother-in-law started your relationship in an elevator, so I thought I’d let you guys try it out,” Qin Feng said innocently, “Elevators are very reliable, nothing would go wrong.”
“Aren’t you biting the hand that feeds you?” Qin Jingchen could tell Jiang Zhe disliked these small tricks and was showing tolerance.
He didn’t need these extra things to assist the warming of their feelings for each other.
After he finished speaking, he walked towards Jiang Zhe.
Qin Feng said indignantly, “Aren’t you also ungratefully repaying kindness with enmity? I’m helping you and you’re still blaming me.”
Jiang Zhe did not want to get into Qin Jingchen’s car, but since the bus station was far away, and it was impossible for a taxi to get in here, she would have to walk several kilometers to get out.
She felt too lazy to move.
Once in Qin Jingchen’s car, she picked up a pack of gum and stuffed four pieces into her mouth, chewing with some irritation.
Qin Hai, who was driving, clearly felt a low pressure filling the car.
“Miss Jiang, would you like some water?” He offered her a bottle of mineral water from the car.
“No,” Jiang Zhe refused without taking it.
Qin Hai understood and quickly withdrew his hand, just in time to see Qin Jingchen stride out, open the car door, and take a seat next to Jiang Zhe.
Jiang Zhe said to Qin Hai, “Go to First Middle School.”
“Okay.” Qin Hai dared not get involved in their affairs, but he could tell that Jiang Zhe was a bit upset. Master Qin’s face, on the other hand, showed no sign of annoyance, instead there was a faint flicker of a smile.
But Master Qin didn’t say anything either, and it was unclear what he meant.
Qin Hai had to drive, so he didn’t continue to pry.
“About what just happened…” Qin Jingchen started in a low voice.
“Don’t talk about it, what’s past is past,” Jiang Zhe interrupted, chewing her gum, aware that it was because of Qin Feng.
She didn’t feel right arguing with a pregnant woman, so the only option left was to direct her irritation at Qin Jingchen.
But then, remembering he seemingly hadn’t done anything wrong, she had nowhere to vent her slight irritation.
The more she brushed it off, the more Qin Jingchen knew that it wouldn’t just end there so easily.
Certainly, what Qin Feng had done earlier had been too outrageous.
However, in such a confined space, Qin Jingchen had indeed been worried for Jiang Zhe, afraid she would get hurt, so he had embraced her from behind.
It was nearly an instinctual reaction.
Jiang Zhe dug out her earphones and stuffed them in her ears, obviously not wanting to hear another word from Qin Jingchen.
Even though she was always aloof, she never directly blocked her ears to refuse listening to someone talk when with others.
It seemed, this time, she was truly upset.
The faint smile at the corners of Qin Jingchen’s lips gradually dissipated.
Qin Hai was also somewhat trembling with apprehension.
When Jiang Zhe reached the entrance of First Middle School, she got out of the car without saying a word and walked towards the school gate.
From the rearview mirror, Qin Hai glanced at Qin Jingchen with some sympathy, unable to discern any change in Master Qin’s expression, but the increasingly lower pressure inside the car told him that his feeling was not an illusion.
Qin Jingchen took out his phone and sent a message to Qin Feng, then composed another message.
His fingers with well-defined joints tapped on the phone screen, editing several times before finally sending the message to Jiang Zhe.
After sending it, a call from Fen Ye came in.
Qin Jingchen answered, and Fen Ye’s voice sounded somewhat impatient, “Jingchen, someone tampered with the goods we were transporting. Someone took the drugs that were supposed to go to an overseas research institute.”
“How much was taken?”
“Just a very small amount. We’ve arranged for people to track that person, but there’s no word yet. Fortunately, our people discovered it in time; the other party only got a small sample and didn’t get any of the larger, genuine bottles.”
“Keep investigating,” Qin Jingchen loosened his tie a bit. It looked like the other party was indeed determined to get their hands on it; this time extra hands had been dispatched, yet they still persisted in pursuit.
