Chapter 176: Chapter 176: Boating on the Lake
Sophie Smith also showed a faint smile, and Irene Morton exclaimed as if discovering a new world.
"Wow! Sister Sophie, you actually smiled!"
Is it really that surprising?
"I’ve never seen you smile much at the Land Family; you and Brother Asher are like peas in a pod, naturally cool and aloof!"
Sophie Smith rubbed her forehead, not expecting that she would appear similar to Asher Land in Irene Morton’s mind—it was totally unjust!
Sophie Smith and Irene Morton arrived at the lakeside together. The scenery there was deservedly famous. Sophie Smith and Irene Morton rented a small boat and rowed towards the center of the lake together.
"Wow, it’s really beautiful!" Irene Morton couldn’t help but exclaim. Such a picturesque, ink-painting-like natural beauty was rare in the bustling metropolis.
The two rowed the small oars in sync, and clusters of lotus flowers bloomed on the tranquil surface, with goldfish playfully swimming below clearly visible.
"Sister Sophie, let’s row towards the middle, I want to pick lotus pods."
Sophie Smith gently responded, and they worked together to row towards the center.
"Irene, be careful."
Irene Morton stood up and reached out long with her hand. The boat lost its original balance and began to sway.
"It’s okay, Sister Sophie, just row a bit closer..."
"Ah!"
A scream accompanied by splashing water occurred— Iren Morton unexpectedly slipped and fell into the lake.
"Irene!" Sophie Smith exclaimed and cried out, "Someone help, my friend fell into the lake, please come and help."
Sophie Smith waved her hands and shouted for help. Fortunately, someone was on the shore; that person took off his shoes and jumped into the water, swimming towards the center of the lake without hesitation.
Sophie Smith’s heart was in her throat; she couldn’t swim, so she could empathize with the suffocating pain of being in the water.
The water surface began to calm down, and Sophie Smith saw a man in a white casual outfit swimming towards them with effort. He dove deep into the water and pulled Irene Morton up from the depths.
"Come and help." The man brought Irene Morton to the boat edge, and Sophie Smith quickly pulled her onto the boat.
"Irene, wake up!" Irene Morton remained unconscious, and Sophie Smith was frightened, almost to tears.
The man shook his head and got onto the boat, instructing Sophie Smith to step aside as he started performing emergency rescue on Irene Morton.
His large hands rhythmically pressed on Irene Morton’s chest, and after about a dozen presses, she finally spat out the water.
"Sister Sophie..."
"Irene, I’m sorry, I’m sorry; I’ll take you to rest right now."
Sophie Smith was extremely remorseful; she should have taken better care of Irene Morton. If it weren’t for the man saving her, she might have committed an unforgivable crime.
Wait a minute? The man who saved Irene?
She carefully observed Irene Morton’s savior. He appeared gentle and handsome, with refined features, and his lips naturally forming a slight curve that brought a sense of warmth.
"Thank you." she expressed.
"No need to thank me." His voice was exceedingly gentle, seemingly not fond of speaking much to outsiders. Hence, Sophie Smith tactfully shut her mouth.
The man rowed the boat back to the shore and carried Irene Morton off the boat.
"Where is your room?"
"Oh..." Sophie Smith quickly stepped ahead, leading him to her and Irene Morton’s room.
"Young Master Johnson, your clothes are soaking wet; you should go change first. I’ll take them back." A middle-aged man of about thirty walked over and spoke from behind the young man.
"I’m fine." He glanced at Sophie Smith, gesturing for her to continue leading the way.
Sophie Smith nodded gratefully and led him to her room.
