Chapter 89: DISCOVERING SOMETHING

Chapter 89: DISCOVERING SOMETHING

Just like what Terrence stated, he carried Natalie on the way back to their camp. Now, it has gotten easier since they just had to walk normally.

When Fredrick learned about Natalie’s situation, he didn’t hesitate and let the two of them go first.

They were accompanied by Rey and another police officer named Yuki.

"You should rest first, Natalie," Terrence stated as he carefully placed Natalie down.

Natalie nodded. She couldn’t utter a single word. Her cheeks were tainted with red.

She was still shy and embarrassed that Terrence had to carry her for 30 minutes. Even though it felt good in his arms, she was anxious about her weight.

"Thanks," After a few seconds of thinking what to say, Natalie was able to utter a word.

Terrence’s lips curved up. He placed his hand on Natalie’s head and slightly patted it.

"Don’t worry about it and you’re welcome." Terrence smiled.

Natalie shyly nodded before chuckling. Terrence really have his way to assure her when she was feeling unsure and anxious.

Natalie waved her hand and went inside her tent. She wanted to lie down and rest for a while.

Terrence, who was left alone stayed outside. He was tired but it wasn’t to the point that he would want to rest.

Terrence sat on one of the chairs. Rey and Yuki were beside him. They were drinking hot coffee despite the hot weather. It was something that Terrence could not understand.

"I miss my wife already," Rey sighed. He suddenly let out his thought.

Yuki chuckled. He was a newly assigned police officer.

"You sure love your wife, Sir."

Rey nodded. "Of course," he answered with a big smile on his lips.

Terrence found it funny how Rey was talking about his wife, despite having a bulk body. You would not expect it from him.

"You like the chief’s niece, don’t you?" Rey glanced at Terrence, who was just silently listening to them.

Terrence looked around, in fear that Natalie might hear them.

Rey chuckled as he saw the panicked expression on Terrence’s face. Even without answering, he already knew the answer to his question.

"I won’t continue the question anymore," Rey answered, with a teasing tone in his voice.

"It seems like our guy here is still shy about his feelings!" Yuki joined in the teasing.

Terrence could only laugh. He didn’t answer yes or no, but Rey and Yuki knew the answer to his question already.

Terrence sighed. He knew that he already liked Natalie– no. He thinks that his feelings were starting to get more serious than that.

Before he confessed his feelings, he still wanted to make sure that Natalie felt the same way as him.

Yuki and Rey noticed how Terrence got lost in his thoughts. He didn’t even notice that there was a fly in his arms. Usually, one would react with that.

"Why don’t you just tell her, mate?" Rey suggested, slapping Terrence playfully on the back.

Terrence sighed. "Maybe soon," he answered plainly.

With the silence, Rey and Yuki didn’t continue the conversation any further. They respected Terrence’s decision since they had also gone through it in the past.

It sounds simple, but it’s pretty complicated.

The three of them were resting peacefully in the camp. They were waiting for Fredrick and the rest to come back.

They decided to continue on the walk and went to the rest of the area which they hadn’t explored yet.

It was deeper in the woods, and they did not know where it was leading too.

"Sir Rey! Sir Yuki!"

Hearing a loud shout, all of them stood up in a panic. They looked at each other without saying anything.

They ran towards the man who had just shouted. Adrenaline surged through their veins as they tried to make sense of the urgency in the shout.

"What happened?" Rey immediately asked.

"We spotted something in the woods!" The man who had just shouted answered in a panic.

The three of them looked again at each other.

"Yuki, stay here and guard Natalie," Rey uttered, since they can’t possibly leave Natalie alone when she was still resting.

"Yes, Sir!" Yuki quickly understood the situation. He raised his hand and saluted to Rey and Terrence before walking back.

Now Yuki was attentive and wary of his surroundings as he guarded the camp.

Rey looked at Terrence. "Let’s go," he uttered. The seriousness in his voice was evident.

Running in the woods, the man who shouted earlier guided them. They arrived breathless, scanning the area for any signs of disturbance.

"What did you see?" Rey asked, his voice edged with concern.

The person who raised the alarm pointed towards a large hole in the ground, its edges jagged and the depths impossible to discern from their vantage point. The hole seemed out of place, a stark anomaly in the otherwise serene surroundings of the woods.

Rey approached cautiously, peering into the ground below. The large hole was deep. There were a few lines edged on the hole as if something was previously in there.

"Careful, we don’t know what this is," Fredrick warned, his tone was cautious.

Terrence’s furrowed his brow. "Do you think a plant was really in here?" he asked remembering what Hugo said.

"It doesn’t look like a normal plant," Rey observed. "It’s too wide and deep"

Terrence’s mind raced with possibilities. "But didn’t Hugo say that the plant he saw was big? What if it was initially from this?"

Frederick raised the possibility but they still couldn’t confirm whether it was true or not since this was all that they saw.

"This could also be a previous hiding spot." Another police officer sighed, since by the looks of it, the hole could possibly fit a man inside.

Frederick sighed. He does not know what to conclude with what they saw.

He glanced at Terrence before looking at his team.

"Spread up. If it’s a plant or a man, we need to see it immediately to confirm our suspicions."
