Chapter 54: AN ATTACK
Chapter 54: AN ATTACK
Terrence stared at Natalie as she talked to the man who approached them earlier. They were quite far from him.
He just found out that the police officer was Natalie’s uncle from her mother’s side. He was the chief of police in the town.
Terrence glanced over at the time on his phone’s screen. It was already close to 5 in the afternoon. They have been in the area for more than an hour already.
Most of it was because the police officers questioned the three of them about what they saw and if they found any people near the area.
Since it was evident that they weren’t involved with the case, the police officers stopped after asking a few questions. It was also with the help of Natalie’s uncle.
Terrence lightly smiled when Natalie turned her head to meet him. Natalie secretly signaled a wait sign before returning her gaze to the person to whom she was talking.
Sighing, Terrence placed his phone back in his pocket. He leaned into the car and watched how the people on the side worked.
It gave Terrence a moment to think about what he saw.
In his previous life, he had never heard of an incident like this. His eyes went to the bloody ground. The corpse was already collected earlier after the medical examiner arrived just minutes ago.
It gave the time for the police to document the scene and the area where the dead body was found.
Terrence couldn’t help but sigh one more time. Working with the police was already not new to him since, in his past life, they used to team up together for the government.
Terrence tilted his head to the side. He does not have any idea about the motive of the killer. He was confused as hell.
’It’s not like it’s a zombie attack or something,’ he chuckled.
That would be too impossible since they do not exist.
Terrence shrugged his shoulders. He went to the other side of the car, where the view was more lenient to the greenery. He was breathing fresh air when he noticed something.
Terrence was able to see some small traces of blood on the ground. They were only droplets and far from the middle of the road where they saw the man. Terrence decided to take a few steps.
It was his curiosity that made him do it.
His forehead creased. He looked around. He was sure that no police officers went this way since it was quite far already.
Terrence was able to see more droplets of blood as he walked farther. Now, he was a little bit far from the road, but since it was an open space with only a few trees around, he felt a little bit assured of doing it.
Terrence stopped walking when he saw the traces of blood stopped. He looked around. He noticed that he was getting near the tree area.
It was confusing when you thought about it. Did the man initially come from here? Did he just run for survival until the road earlier? Or were there more victims if they just explored further?
There were a lot of questions running through Terrence’s head as he thought about it more. This just made the matter more complicated in his eyes.
’Hmm...’ Terrence stared at the road ahead of him. He was tempted to walk more.
"Terrence! What are you doing there? Come back now!" Hearing a voice at his backside, Terrence turned his head back.
In there, he saw Natalie at the side of the car where he was initially at. Natalie’s face was crumpled out, confused and scared why Terrence was at the side of the road.
What’s more, he was far away.
Terrence sighed. He tilted his head to the side. He gave the area one more look before slowly nodding. Maybe it’s really time for him to go back.
When Terrence decided to return, he noticed that he had gotten farther than he intended to. He was lost in what he had found out.
Terrence raised his hands up and waved at Natalie. He saw how worried and scared Natalie looked.
Terrence started to walk back in a relaxed manner. However, he couldn’t help but think about the situation.
’Should I tell the police about what happened?’ he asked himself about it.
When he realized how important it may be for the investigation, he decided that it was the right thing to do. He won’t be able to look at the case personally since he had no position to do so.
If he was still the same in his previous life, then he might be able to. But, right now, he was just a normal citizen.
Terrence was lost in thoughts. He was already in the middle of coming back when he felt something odd. As if he suddenly felt something fishy. It was his mind’s instinct to look back.
Terrence’s eyes widened when he saw a man. He was wearing torn clothes, and his body was filthy dirty.
The man was running towards Terrence’s direction. He was incredibly fast.
The only thing that Terrence could do was to take a few steps to the side to avoid collision with him.
Since the man was running at full speed, he had no time to adjust his direction. He fell to the ground when he leaped to attack Terrence at his original position.
"What the fuck," Terrence suddenly cursed out loud.
Terrence was surprised by it. Fortunately, he was able to react quickly.
He was about to be relieved when the man showed signs of pain from the impact that was caused by falling to the ground.
However, Terrence did not expect what was about to happen.
The man suddenly turned his head toward Terrence. As if nothing happened, he stood up and ran once again. Now, his speed was faster compared to earlier. It was as if he was catching a prey that he wanted to devour.
"TERRENCE!" Natalie shouted. Her eyes widened in fear at what she had witnessed.
