NIGHTS OF HALLOW -
Chapter 59: The Hood Man
Chapter 59: The Hood Man
At the same time, in another town in the kingdom of Vamlone called Witforley walked a man who had a long robe draped on his body and a hood over his head hindering the eyes of the people from seeing the face hidden underneath it.
His steps were quick on the snow-covered cemented floor of the town as he wanted to quickly reach his destination on time.
This town was particularly not busy as other noble towns in the Vamlone kingdom. Only a few people lived here and they were the ones in the highest hierarchy of the wealthiest in the high society. Only those that had thousands and millions of wealth could afford to live here, and that was why very few lived there. Even getting the smallest item would cost thousands of gold coins.
The man walked further into the town and away from the busy part of the town. The few people who walked around in their very expensive clothes and luxurious carriages cared the least about the unknown man who walked past them. They never interfered in each other’s business but at the same time, their eyes and ears were wide open to pick the slightest threat or harm that one might be having towards them.
The town was a mixture of vampires, especially pureblooded vampires, and very few humans. Then there was the third type of people that lived here which was a rumor going around but it has not been fully confirmed. They were the rumored witches. They were said to live in this town years ago but suddenly went extinct after the massacre, but no one actually knew if the news was true or false.
The hooded man continued to walk past the people with his head bowed and his hood doing the perfect job of hiding his face. He took a turn to his left and entered the most seluded part of the town where there were fewer houses. And there was no sight of anyone. Everywhere was quiet.
The man’s feet slowed their pace as he slowly reached his destination. He turned his head to scan the area under his hood to see if anyone was in sight. As he did this, the breeze suddenly blew a strong wind that pushed the man’s hood away from his head revealing a mixture of black and gray hair with the slightly wrinkled face of the man. His green eyes shone in excitement and a somewhat evil way before he quickly pulled the hood over his head once more and entered through the gates of one of the mansions in the town.
Immediately he entered the gates, the gate automatically closed and locked by itself surprising and at the same time shocking the man. He stood there for a while pondering over what just happened.
He shrugged his shoulders, adjusted his robe and dusted his gloved hand on his pants, and began to walk again along the path that led to the entrance of the mansion that surprisingly did not have a single trace of snow on it. It looked as if the snow was constantly plowed. But on a closer look, it seemed as if the snow never fell on this path. This again made the man stop in his tracks as he regarded the place he was standing.
Things have changed since the last time he came here, but they were all good changes if he remembered how it looked years ago. The dry garden was now greenery with beautiful flowers, trees, and grasses with a running fountain in the middle. The other side held more beautiful things he didn’t have time to admire as he continued towards the entrance of the mansion that stood in all of its grace and enchantment.
He unconsciously shuddered in the cold as he neared the entrance of the mansion that usually loomed over him like a thick wall of doom years ago. Or was that what he thought before? Because now the same gloomy mansion was not as it was before. Right now, it flaunted its glory and magnificence with pride. The green eyes of the man swirled with an unknown emotion he blinked back almost immediately.
The hooded man sighed and continued down the path. Reaching the entrance without more distractions, he raised his hand to push the door open but before he could touch it, the door was suddenly flung open and there standing with his stoic face and manner was a man in his well-tailored costly dress.
His sharp features were prominent under the light that illuminated from the insides of the mansion. The man’s face was slightly pale as if he had just woken up from a deep slumber. Even his eyes looked hollow and void of emotion as he stared at the hooded man expressionlessly.
The men stared at each other for a while and the hooded man finally broke the silence. He said, "I’m looking for Mr..."
The hand of the other man shot forward interrupting the hooded man from completing his words.
"Your robe," came the gruff and short and clipped voice from the man. His unwavering gaze never left the hood man.
"No, I’m cold." The hood shook his head negatively. He continued to say, "I’ll rather have this on my body to keep myself warm." The hooded man replied and hugged his robe tighter to his body but the other man was having none of it.
The man pointed at the hood man’s body and said in his emotionless tone, "Your coat, snow. The mansion, warm." His words barely relayed what he intended to say as he left some words hanging waiting for his listener to complete them.
The hood man squinted his eyes with a small frown on his face. He felt the man in front of him was stupid and didn’t know how to speak. It took a while before he understood what the man meant. The man was telling the hood man that his robe was smeared with snow and that the mansion was warm if he needed warmth.
Seeing the still extended hand of the man, the hood man slowly and reluctantly removed his coat and handed it to the strange speaking and looking man.
