Chapter 410: Monster

Chapter 410: Monster

Chu Jiu suddenly had a bad feeling and subconsciously put the painting away. Then, she saw blood capillaries surfacing on Qiao Yu’s brother’s face. They slowly moved, and the man’s face changed. Eventually, he became another person.

“Wei Jingting!” Chu Jiu gasped. Wei Jingting was not interested in Chu Jiu. His eyes reflected Wan Xiaoning’s image. “It looks like you’re the last night guardian.”

Wan Xiaoning didn’t say anything. She stared at him, waiting for an opportunity. “I’ll stop him,” Wan Xiaoning whispered, “Take the clue with you. Go find the others.” Before Chu Jiu could respond, Wan Xiaoning flew forward. She was light and airy. Her sleeves hid a pretty butterfly knife. The way she flew through the air surprised Chu Jiu. She was like a bird. She didn’t expect the woman who didn’t like to speak to be so athletic.

Wei Jingting didn’t have the chance to react. He barely avoided the fatal hit. However, Wan Xiaoning managed to land a kick on his chest. It looked light, but Wei Jingting had to stagger back about eight steps. That showed how powerful the kick was.

Chu Jiu suddenly had the feeling that she could wait for Wan Xiaoning to deal with this strange Wei Jingting. She didn’t want to abandon more people. Wei Jingting’s retreat opened up the path around the corner.

“Leave!” Wan Xiaoning kept attacking without looking at Chu Jiu.

Wei Jingting narrowed his eyes, which had darkened. “It looks like they knew I was coming. Or else they wouldn’t have… sent a weapon like you.” Wei Jingting’s presence shifted completely. Even though the price for using the taboo power again was heavy, he had to do it if he wanted to deal with the enemy quickly. “How troublesome.”

“Go now!” Wan Xiaoning shouted at the hesitant Chu Jiu. Chu Jiu gritted her teeth and turned to run down the stairs. After Chu Jiu’s footsteps disappeared, Wan Xiaoning took out a normal-looking vial from her pocket. It had one-third of liquid in it. The liquid shone a strange, dark red. It looked like blood, but was more viscous. When he saw the vial, Wei Jingting’s eyes lit up. The power in his body resonated with the liquid in the vial.

“Do we have to do this?” Wei Jingting whispered, “You should know the consequences of touching the taboo. Do you wish to end up in the dark hospital like the rest? That is the door to hell. It is not something someone like you can control.” Wei Jingting’s tone carried a threat and something else. “Once you open it, even if you can survive, the Night Guardians will never stop hunting you. You will become a hated monster!”

Wei Jingting froze. He saw Wan Xiaoning lift the vial to her lips and shattered it with a bite. Perhaps it was the liquid, or it might be the glass shard that cut her lips. Red liquid leaked down her chin. At that moment, the woman turned into a sharp blade. She was dangerously sexy and lethal. For a moment, the hunted became the hunter.

The woman stood there quietly. However, Wei Jingting felt like a giant had opened its eyes. The woman’s power was not as pure as his, but it was more rampaging. After opening the taboo door, she only had seconds left to her life.

“A door to hell…” The woman’s eyes turned more crimson than those of Wei Jingting’s. The next second, the face dominated by veins and patterns smiled. The momentary clarity made one feel like the mutating monster was still the brilliant woman. “Then, please join me on this journey.” That was the monster’s last words.

Chu Jiu ran like crazy. That was the only way to escape the voices chasing him.

“Jiu Jiu, don’t be scared. Big sister is here!”

“Chu Jiu! Run into the dark. Don’t turn back!”

“I’ll stop him! Find the others!”

“Leave now!”

The girl exhausted all her tears in the past few days. If she continued to cry, there would be blood. She gripped the drawing. This was the first time she felt so determined. The drawing was everyone’s hope. It was exchanged with Sister Chen Yi, Hua Luo and Wan Xiaoning’s lives. She was someone who transferred hope. She was ready to sacrifice herself for it.

“Chu Jiu!” Banana Wolf crashed into her. He came from the other side of the corridor.

“The others…”

Before Banana Wolf could continue, he was shocked by the girl’s appearance. She kept gasping for air. Her eyes were bloodshot. “They are all gone.” Chu Jiu extended her hand. “This is the clue.” Banana Wolf’s face shifted. He had predicted this outcome. His three friends were probably dead. But…

The light at the end of the corridor was extinguished. Then, the light next to it flickered and went out.

“It’s chasing me.” Banana Wolf quickly explained, “I don’t know what story this is. It might be the one that killed Qiao Yu, but it doesn’t feel right.” Staring at the innocent face, Banana Wolf hesitated before coming to a decision. “You need to leave with the clue. I’ll distract it.

“Hao Shuai and Jiang Fugui are still alive. Find them. They…” He paused before smiling with encouragement. “You will survive with them!”

The lights went out quicker, like a shadow was approaching them. They raced down the corridor. Thankfully, the door to the stairwell wasn’t locked.

“Chu Jiu, you can go down here. I’ll distract it. Remember…”

“Be careful!” Chu Jiu yelped. Banana Wolf turned around but didn’t see anything. The next second, he felt a shove on his waist. He stumbled into the stairwell. Then, a paper that had been folded multiple times landed at his feet.

The heavy door slammed shut. Chu Jiu’s voice came through it. “Go find the others!” She shouted. “I’m tired. I don’t want to run anymore!”

Then, gathering her courage, Chu Jiu stared right at the darkness. She took a deep breath and uttered, “I’ll leave the rest to you. Please survive for all of us!”
