Chapter 409: Thump

The strange thing was that she didn’t move when Fatty pulled her. He shouted, “You need to work with me!”

Through the thick smoke, he couldn’t see anything.

“Why?” A few seconds later, Li Zhumei’s voice came from behind him. After being tormented by the heat waves and the smoke, Fatty had lost his ability to think. He didn’t notice that Li Zhumei’s voice had changed. “Quick!” He knelt to allow Li Zhumei to climb on his back.

“You’ll die if you stay.” She asked, “Is it worth it?” Her voice became clear.

“You saved us, so I have to save you,” Fatty shouted his answer. He was anxious. He wondered why the woman wanted to waste time on questions. The good thing was that the Doctor had escaped. After all, he hadn’t encountered anyone so far. Based on his understanding of the Doctor, a fire wouldn’t claim his life.

After a quick silence, Li Zhumei said, “You should go.”

“Lady, are you…” Fatty was about to ask if she was crazy when he felt the temperature around them dropping. Even the smoke receded. “It looks like the firefighters are here!” Fatty was overjoyed. “Quick. We need to escape. I still need to look for the Doctor.”

“You don’t need to.” The voice behind her was weirdly calm. “They are all dead. You are the only one who should live.”

“Impossible!” Fatty wanted to go up the stairs to look for them. However, a person was thrown out from behind the next second. He landed beside Fatty. Fatty’s eyes were blurry, but he could tell that it was not the Doctor. It was Banana Wolf. His eyes were closed, but his chest was moving. He was still alive.

“Not him.” Fatty narrowed his red eyes. He wanted to hurry to save the Doctor. “There’s another one!” He heard someone taking a heavy breath, as if she were hesitating. Eventually, another person was shoved out. Fatty was happy when he noticed that this was the Doctor. He hurried over to check on his injury. Similar to Banana Wolf, the Doctor had fainted.

However, upon closer inspection, Fatty noticed something different. The Doctor’s face was bloated with clear palm prints like someone had slapped him when he was unconscious. Regardless, that didn’t matter because he didn’t die in the fire.

“Cough, cough…” With Fatty working on CPR, Jiang Cheng eventually woke up. The moment he did, he looked behind Fatty.

“The fuck!” The Doctor jumped up like he had seen a ghost.

“Doctor, are you alright?” Fatty teared up from happiness.

“You can go.” Li Zhumei’s voice came. Perhaps he had imagined it, but Fatty felt like the woman was not so happy after the Doctor woke up. Jiang Cheng soon understood what had happened. He got Fatty to pick up Banana Wolf.

“Doctor, can you wait?” Fatty said, “I’ll carry Li Zhumei, and we can leave together.”

Jiang Cheng’s spine chilled, but he had to explain, “Sister Mei, who is pretty, kind, pure, innocent, cute, fair, intelligent and clever, doesn’t need you. So many people are rushing to save her.”

“But…” Fatty hesitated. However, he cowered due to a gaze from Jiang Cheng. He thought about it. The fire had stopped, so she should be fine.

Fatty was tasked to carry Banana Wolf. Thankfully, it didn’t take long for the man to wake up. After some violent coughs, he opened his eyes. Similar to Jiang Cheng, Banana Wolf acted like he had seen a ghost. However, Jiang Cheng whispered something to him, and the way Banana Wolf looked at Fatty changed.

When they left the corridor, they saw a giant canvas. Jiang Cheng studied it, and the truth dawned on him. “Let’s go.” The three managed to escape successfully.

For Fatty’s sake, Jiang Cheng said that everything they experienced was an illusion.

“It felt so true.” Fatty was shocked. “But where is Li Zhumei? Why didn’t she leave the illusion with us?”

“She…”

“She left from another exit.” Jiang Cheng cut in. “There is more than one exit. Don’t worry. She’s safe.”

“Okay.” Fatty blinked. “Then what should we do now?” After leaving the illusion, he felt much better. At least his breathing was smoother. He glanced out the window. It was about 4 pm. After thinking about it, Jiang Cheng decided to regroup with the others. However, to their surprise, after opening the safety door, the corridor had changed. It was no longer the office building. It was… Ping An Apartments!

They were not far from Room 808. Fatty and Banana Wolf had disappeared. Jiang Cheng guessed that Li Zhumei was behind this. She hated him for kicking her, so she connected the exit to this place. However, based on her connection with Fatty, the other two should be fine.

However, his cheeks were red with pain. It hurt when he spoke. Naturally, Li Zhumei attacked him when he was unconscious. He checked his belts and pants. Thankfully, he was not assaulted there. Based on his relationship with Li Zhumei, he’d die if he entered Room 808. However, he was unwilling to leave just like that. Therefore, he unlocked a door that was close to Room 808. It was Room 802. He knew that if he still had any teammates, they would come back to Room 808.

“How are you?” The kneeling Chu Jiu heard someone ask. It was Wan Xiaoning. Her voice was barely a whisper, and Chu Jiu heard the caution in her tone. She tried to stand up. About 2 metres to her left was Wan Xiaoning. “I got it.” Chu Jiu flashed the paper she had.

However, Wan Xiaoning only took a glance before turning her head to stare in a direction in warning. Chu Jiu followed her gaze. She saw the guard faint on the ground. Qiao Yu’s brother stood at the corner, blocking their escape.

“Hehe.” After seeing the drawing in Chu Jiu’s grasp, he grinned widely to reveal a row of startlingly white teeth.
