Chapter 263: Letting them know
Chapter 263: Letting them know
"I don’t have to go to work today." Quizen said, his gaze glued to the path ahead of him.
Quizen and Zaque are on their way back to the house, their bellies full and satisfied from the breakfast that Coco paid for— even though Zaque insisted that he could pay for the three of them— with their pockets heavy with money.
Before Coco sent them off to go back to the house, she gave them their weekly allowance which consists of ten gold coins each.
She did not want one of them to have less than the others so she made sure that all of them had ten gold coins.
The amount of the gold coins honestly surprised them because just a month ago, the four of them were struggling to get by, having to resort to selling their fragile bodies to laborious work available around the village.
So, seeing Coco hand them forty gold coins so casually while paying for their meal, gave them butterflies.
When they were about to leave the pub, Coco reminded them to let the second and third husbands know that she will stop by later.
She doesn’t want to start another argument with Alhai so she asked Zaque to let the two mediators know.
How can he not fall for her? She’s always mindful and considerate of her words and actions around them, always straight to the point to avoid misunderstandings, but still strict with her beliefs.
Actually, even if she was strict with her beliefs, she was never disrespectful towards them and always put them above all else.
It was clear how she would always send food and money to the house even though she was upset with them, not caring if there was an argument because she would still find ways to be responsible regarding their everyday necessities.
Zaque let out a sigh, nodding his head.
"Just stand somewhere near me just in case Alhai starts to get mad." He instructed Quizen, glancing in the fourth husband’s direction.
"He will understand." Quizen mumbled, his eyebrows furrowing, the possible scenarios running through his mind like a broken record, rousing an unsettling feeling on his chest.
The thought of Alhai scowling and disgruntling the two of them for wanting to go with Coco flashed before his eyes, making him shake his head.
"Hopefully." Zaque sighs, "If he doesn’t, then there’s no helping it. It would be just the two of us who will be going with her."
"What if Heiren wants to come?" Quizen asked, shifting closer to Zaque, and lowered his voice.
".. Then Alhai will be left alone until Coco gets her hunter license." Zaque stated bluntly, his tone making it clear for Quizen that he doesn’t mind Alhai being left alone if he doesn’t want to go with Coco to the main city.
"Wouldn’t that be dangerous?" Quizen raised an eyebrow, "It’s okay if it was just a day of being alone, but considering the period of time of hunters getting their license, he would be left alone for.. I don’t know, probably a week or two? Or maybe more?"
Zaque got quiet for a moment, looking like he was pondering about what to do with Alhai if he were to refuse if Heiren wants to come.
"If Heiren wants to come as well.. We’ll just force Alhai. Even if it means tying him up and silencing him until we get to the main city." Zaque said with a sigh, "It’s better than leaving him alone for who knows how long."
"That’s true.." Quizen murmured.
The conversation ended there and the rest of their walk back to the house was filled with nothing, but silence.
When they arrived at the house, Heiren and Alhai were already preparing the table so they could eat breakfast, their heads snapping to the door to see who opened it.
"You two are up earlier than usual." Zaque blinked, not expecting them to be up at this early hours of the morning.
"Only because I noticed two certain mediators sneaking out of the house so early in the morning." Heiren said, giving Zaque and Quizen a pointed stare which elicited a flinch from them.
"I got woken up by Quizen’s heavy footsteps across the hall." Alhai stated, placing a cup down to the table, and eyeing the fourth husband with a scrutinizing gaze.
"Sorry." Quizen squeaked out, spooked by Alhai’s perceptive hearing.
"Where did you two go? It’s too early to be up and about." Heiren quickly changed the course of the conversation, his eyes narrowing into a glare, "And why do I smell pork coming from the two of you?"
"We had breakfast with Coco." Zaque said and answered Heiren’s questions with a few words, "We talked about her departure for the main city."
Heiren’s face softened slightly, his shoulders relaxing, and nodded his head in understanding.
"I see, so? What did she say?" Heiren asked, moving away from the dining table to get the fried rice he finished cooking a moment ago, "Will she bring you with her? Did she change her mind?"
Zaque walked over to the dining table and reached out for the teapot while his other hand busied itself by grabbing a teacup, he poured himself a tea and took a seat on his usual spot on the table.
"Yes." Zaque said after taking a second sip, "But there’s a couple of changes with the plan."
As soon as he said that, he heard the third husband release a scoff as he scrubbed something in the sink.
"Changes? Did she say what?" Heiren raised an eyebrow and placed an empty tea cup on the table, pouring it to the brim with tea.
Heiren shot Quizen a glance and pushed the newly poured tea towards him, causing him to brighten up and send Heiren a thankful smile as he slid to the seat beside Zaque, heart hammering against his chest.
Quizen took a sip, hoping that it would steel his nerves.
"She did." Zaque hums, "She’ll bring Quizen with us."
