Chapter 262: A decision over breakfast

"It’s nothing."

Thankfully, even amidst the confusion, Coco still managed to stick to her initial response to their question.

"Anyway, I’m taking Zaque with me." Coco was quick to stir the topic of the conversation to another direction as she resumed her meal, "Make sure to pack some clothes— or not, I could just buy you new ones."

Zaque and Quizen felt a feeling of unease wash over them as Coco shifted the topic of the conversation, but they didn’t probe further.

Something about her tone, the look in her eyes, and the way she avoided the topic made them hesitant to delve deeper into the issue— something that made them shiver in their spot.

So, despite the desire to understand, they refrained from asking more questions, not wanting to provoke her further.

"No, thank you. It’s fine." Zaque politely declined Coco’s offer of buying him new clothes in the main city, "I want you to focus more on getting your hunter license than buying me things that I won’t need."

"I’m pretty sure that you will need clothes." Coco rebutted with a raise of an eyebrow, "You haven’t said much about yourself, but I could tell that you were a nobility before you got trapped in this marriage."

Quizen and Zaque shared a glance, their eyebrows furrowing in nervousness, not sure where the conversation was going.

"Pretty mediators like you two need at least a few clothes that are made out of the finest quality of silk, cotton, and uh, whatever else they make clothes out of." Coco grumbled the last bit, feeling ashamed that she’s not knowledgeable in that area.

She had been complimenting their looks for a while so the praise came out casually, and she was too focused on her food to notice the reaction of the mediators across her.

Zaque’s handsome face took on an expression of surprise as he was stunned speechless, his cheeks immediately turning bright with a hint of red, his mind unable to process the unexpected compliment.

Despite being used to being complimented on his otherworldly beauty, he had never been called pretty by Coco before.

The unexpected term of endearment had taken him off guard, causing a wave of emotions to wash over him.

He tried to maintain his composure, but the corners of his mouth lifted in a small, shy smile, the light flush that rose to his cheeks was now spreading towards his ears, and at that moment, he found himself a little tongue-tied for a good second.

"Thanks," He stammered out, his voice cracking slightly.

On the other hand, Quizen’s face turned red at Coco’s compliment that came out of her mouth a little too smoothly, his expression a mix of surprise and confusion.

Normally, he would receive compliments on his voice, his looks, and skill to play the guitar, but never before had someone called him pretty, so damn casually at that, like it was like any other day.

Quizen could feel his chest tighten, his heart thumping loudly in his ears as he coughed slightly to cover up his reaction, his cheeks reddening at the unexpected comment, his hands letting go of his utensils and instead, fidgeting awkwardly in his lap.

Despite his usual scowl and stoicism, he couldn’t hide the effect Coco’s casual praise had on him— his face gave him away, a faint blush spreading across his cheeks.

"Thanks." Quizen managed to say, his voice unexpectedly breathless.

Coco looked up from her meal, her brow furrowed as she noticed the red hue on their faces.

She found herself puzzled by their flustered state, curious about what could be causing it because to be honest, she had merely complimented them, a simple gesture to acknowledge their good looks, so why were they reacting this way?

She tilted her head slightly, her expression filled with confusion. "What is there to be red about? And why are you thanking me— you know what? Don’t answer that. Just finish your meal. I have somewhere I need to be."

Coco grumbled as she pointed her fork at their untouched plates, frowning lightly because while it may look like it was eaten, Coco knew that they had not taken a single spoonful of their rice.

"Got it." Zaque mumbled and grabbed his utensils, immediately doing as he was told.

"I can eat this faster than him anyway." Quizen said, his voice dripping with disappointment as he puffed out his cheeks, clearly upset that Coco told them that they need to hurry up with their meal.

"Good." Coco hums and goes back to her own meal, "I’ll be stopping by the house later. Probably around afternoon, before dinner."

"Okay." Zaque answered, his gaze glued to his plate.

It was silent for a moment, just the clinking of their spoon and fork against the plate were the only sound coming from their table, but Quizen broke the silence between them with his question.

"If.. If I told you I want to come, too, would you let me?"

The question was quiet, but it made Zaque snap his head to Quizen’s direction, a look of disbelief settling on his face, as if he got betrayed.

Coco finished her own meal first, her hands letting go of her spoon and fork, before she reached out for the cup of water and drank out of it.

As she did so, Quizen’s heart hammered inside her chest, his hands slowly shaking from anxiety.

A sound came from the cup on Coco’s grasp as she placed it back down to the table.

"If you want to come, then I will bring you with me." Coco answered Quizen’s questions truthfully as she let out a sigh, "That just means that I have to ask the other two, they might want to come to the main city, too, for all I know."

Quizen’s lips parted, a surprised expression on his face.

Coco hummed. "I don’t want any of you to feel left out so I’ll ask Heiren and Alhai if they want to come, too."
