Chapter 257: No, Zaque

Knock.

Knock.

Knock.

Three knocks came from the door, the sound echoing throughout the room.

However, the occupant inside the room failed to hear the knocks, mouth open and snores escaping through her mouth, with a trail of drool on the corner of her lips.

The sky was just beginning to lighten, the first whispers of dawn breaking across the horizon, soft streaks of pink and orange streaked across the sky, the night retreating and giving way to the light of day.

The shadows were shrinking, the darkness retreating as the sun peered over the horizon, casting a gentle glow over the land.

The town was slowly beginning to wake, the first signs of life stirring from the night and since the sky is lightening up, people have woken up from their slumber.

Knock.

Knock.

Knock.

The sound of knuckles rapping against a door broke the early morning silence, but there was no answer.

Inside the room, Coco continued to sleep, oblivious to the sound, as she lay curled up in a comfortable tangle of blankets, her face peaceful in slumber, her breathing long and deep.

Another round of knocks sounded through the room, louder this time, but still Coco remained asleep.

She didn’t stir, her face continuing to remain buried in her pillow, her hair framing her face in a messy halo and whoever was outside the door had clearly been standing there for a while, trying to roust the sleeping figure, but to no avail.

However, with the series of knocking, another figure rose,

grumbling as she stirred in her sleep, her body shifting beneath the covers as she slowly began to wake up.

Her red wings fluttered lazily, her eyes still closed as she tried to hold onto sleep.

"Coco, someone’s knocking on the door.." She muttered under her breath, her words barely audible, as she let out a big yawn.

Then, she stretched her arms and legs in a cat-like manner, her fingers stretching out and her toes scrunching up.

Coco stirred to consciousness after hearing the fairy’s mutter right beside her head, her eyes fluttering open with a hint of drowsiness in her gaze, her mind slowly processing the sounds that had penetrated her slumber.

"What..?" She mumbled as she raised herself into a sitting position, her hair disheveled and her movements still sluggish from sleep.

A yawn escaped her lips, her hand rubbing over her face as she tried to fully wake herself up.

Within a second, Coco’s ears caught the faint sound of a knock on the door, the sound piercing through her waking mind— no, it wasn’t overly loud, but in the quiet of the early morning, it was impossible to ignore.

She sat up a little straighter, her eyes darting towards the door as she registered the sound.

Coco slowly climbed out of the bed, taking the covers with her and wrapping them around her body like a makeshift robe, the fabric was warm and cozy, enveloping her in a comforting embrace as she stood up, her feet touching the floor.

She held the covers together with one hand, the other running through her bed-head, fixing her tangled hair with her fingers.

Coco padded across the room, the covers wrapped around her body, her movements slow and sleepy.

When she opened it, she blinked in surprise to find Alithe standing there, the dark skinned male that she had saved the night before hovering just behind him.

"Alithe..?" She murmured, her voice still soft from sleep, as she blinked, her sleep-addled mind taking a few moments to register their presence, "What’s wrong? Did something happen?"

Alithe blinked as he looked at Coco, taking in her sleepy yet disheveled appearance as she stood before him wrapped in the cover.

He felt a pang of guilt at having woken her up from her slumber, especially when he knew that Coco had gone to bed later than all of them, making sure that nothing was wrong with his pair.

He hadn’t intended to disturb her, but he needed to ask her about something urgent, so here he was, standing in front of her early in the morning in this state.

"Can we come in? We just have something important to talk to you about." Alithe said, clearing his throat.

"Hm? Sure, just don’t mind the mess—" Coco said and was just about to motion for Alithe and the man to come in, when she was interrupted by a voice calling out from somewhere behind them.

"Coco?" The voice was slightly loud, making Coco jump in surprise, turning her head towards the direction of the voice, her expression turning from sleepy to more awake.

The two men also turned around, their gazes shifting to look at the person who had just called out to her.

"Zaque." Coco blinked, her eyebrows furrowing in confusion, her gaze darting from Alithe to the red haired mediator across the hallway, then her eyes landed on the blue haired mediator beside him. "And Quizen?"

"What are you two doing here?" The puzzled look on Coco’s sleepy face was clear, and if Zaque doesn’t feel alarmed right now, he would have taken his time to admire her.

"I was planning to invite you to eat breakfast with me and Quizen." Zaque answered, taking long strides towards her.

"But I guess I caught you in a bad time? " Zaque asked, but the hybrids and the other mediator knew that he wasn’t asking, it was more like a statement— an underlying warning towards the threat.

"Ah, yes, but the two of you can wait for me by the pub. I’ll be there after I talk to Alithe." Coco, of course, picked up what his words and tone meant, didn’t hesitate to turn him down and choose her main mission’s subject— Alithe and his pair.

"But—"

"No, Zaque." Coco said, her tone firm and final. "It’s either the two of you would be waiting for me by the pub or I won’t be eating breakfast with the two of you."
