National Forensic Doctor -
Chapter 824 - 765: Manpower
Chapter 824: Chapter 765: Manpower
"Doctor, is there a doctor?"
Several drug users were pinned down in the room, but a woman shouted out loudly, not wanting the emaciated young man who had just been sprayed to die.
Jiang Yuan stepped forward and said, "Let me have a look."
The woman nodded repeatedly and then, seeing that Jiang Yuan was not wearing a white coat, asked subconsciously, "Are you a doctor?"
"I’m a forensic doctor," Jiang Yuan said as he knelt beside the young man and began to examine him.
The other drug users in the room looked at Jiang Yuan and the other police officers with fear. They took drugs, but they didn’t want to die.
Jiang Yuan had also learned a bit about clinical medicine, although he hadn’t used it much in many years...
Of course, determining whether someone was alive or dead fell within the purview of a forensic doctor.
Jiang Yuan felt the young man’s neck, and the guy’s eyes suddenly snapped open.
"Ah, is he revived?!"
The drug users, who were being dragged out just then, saw this scene, and everyone seemed very excited—mostly because of whatever they had consumed.
Jiang Yuan then stood up; the person was alive, and there was nothing more he could do.
The young man gasped for air a couple of times and then began to wail as if awakening from a nightmare.
Those who were frequently jailed knew the pain of being beaten or shocked was nothing compared to being sprayed.
The spray caused ongoing damage, with endless tears and snot, and relief was short-lived.
Unfortunately, the detectives had no sympathy for him. The assault team, when out on field duty, followed a tough approach and seldom treated anyone gently.
There was even less need to be gentle with drug users. He was harsher on himself than the world was on him.
The team quickly identified the suspects, handcuffed them, and then escorted them away collectively.
Meanwhile, they checked the neighboring houses one by one.
Duan Xueping was left in the hallway, watched by two officers.
He did not know he was the real target today; instead, he whispered, "Government, government, I want to report something to earn a merit."
"Speak," Wu Junhao came over.
"You have to record this; it’s a report," Duan Xueping said, his face no longer showing the fierceness seen in pictures, but rather a hint of cunning.
"There’s a law enforcement recorder, and cameras are here too. What do you want to report?" Wu Junhao was willing to let him talk.
Duan Xueping said with satisfaction, "The farthest room down the hallway, 330, they’re using too."
Wu Junhao was taken aback, nodded to his deputy, and the latter led a group of officers over.
They carded open the hotel door, used hydraulic cutters to cut through the locked chain, and the detectives swarmed in.
"Ah..."
Room 330 had only two windows fitted with iron bars. The people inside shouted when they saw the hydraulic cutters, but there was no way to run or to clear the room of gas cylinders.
"The cell phone was thrown out of the window," said the detective who entered first, holding the hydraulic cutter in one hand and pulling out his baton with the other. He did this for the drug users’ sake, fearing the cutter might result in brain damage.
His deputy responded, and once the detectives had controlled all five people inside, he used the walkie-talkie to inform the officers downstairs about the cell phone.
This situation was common; nowadays, cell phones contained a lot of information, but criminals’ skills in destroying them hadn’t kept up.
In a while, a detective from downstairs picked up a cell phone from the ground and retrieved another from a second-floor air conditioning unit using a ladder.
"They’re both working, not broken," reported the detective, and the information instantly drove the drug addicts in room 330 to despair.
Wu Junhao’s brow still showed no sign of relaxation.
This time, aside from arresting the target, Duan Xueping, they had apprehended drug addicts across three rooms, surpassing fifteen people. Even if Wu Junhao had fewer people on his side, it would still take seven or eight vehicles to transport everyone back.
Regarding waiting for support from the criminal police or the local police station, not to mention that this place was no longer under the jurisdiction of Zhengguang Bureau, escorting so many people at three o’clock in the morning, there was no way to gather that many people and vehicles.
Most importantly, the effects of inhaling nitrous oxide were difficult to determine. If they couldn’t find other substances during the blood tests, most of these people might only be held for public security detention, with only those involved in trafficking and organizing facing severe consequences. In other words, the local police station wouldn’t be too enthusiastic; aside from the duty officers cooperating, they certainly wouldn’t summon their leaders or policemen who had just endured a 24-hour night shift at three in the morning.
Wu Junhao had someone interrogate Duan Xueping on site while calling over Jiang Yuan and Liu Jinghui among others, whispering, "If we’re to transport these people back to the station, we’ll need to allocate most of our police forces back."
"Are we short-staffed?" Liu Jinghui contemplated and said, "Mainly because it’s not easy to get help from Qi Changye’s side either; they barely have enough people themselves. Is it somewhat inhumane to call Tao now?"
Under these circumstances, sending them to a detention center was impossible. Each detention center had different requirements, but essentially, only healthy individuals could be admitted; most needed medical examinations and were admitted during regular working hours. Those with emergencies or injuries were treated in the hospital first.
Wu Junhao shook his head helplessly, "He’s the squad leader. To call him for something like this, he wouldn’t sleep for the whole night. Let’s be considerate."
"I’m considering Jiang Yuan too," Liu Jinghui said with a smile.
"Let’s see what Duan Xueping confesses. If it’s just one or two, maybe three arrests, we can handle it ourselves. If it’s too many, we’ll see," Jiang Yuan said, and the others nodded in agreement.
This wasn’t an emergency homicide requiring immediate reporting. Ultimately, the case Jiang Yuan and his team were investigating was still an old unresolved case. Now, they were mainly worried about startling the suspects. Besides, they weren’t critically short on manpower.
It was just not completely foolproof.
The deputy got a room from the hotel and placed the suspects in a large suite, leaving a few officers to watch over them while waiting for Zhengguang Bureau to send a prison van.
The hotel staff cooperated actively. Their boss might even end up in prison; cleaning up in the middle of the night was a minor issue.
Jiang Yuan slouched on a couch, scrolling through his phone while waiting for the interrogation results from Duan Xueping.
Duan Xueping was an addict; with just a bit of interrogation skill, a confession was nearly guaranteed. It just depended on whether the content of his confession suited their next actions.
During this time, the officers found places to rest, scattered around. Few were willing to sleep, afraid that being abruptly awakened would feel worse, but within minutes, the sound of snoring was everywhere.
"Duan Xueping has implicated four people!"
His deputy returned, his expression both excited and worried.
Capturing four people wasn’t too many, just about at their limit.
Wu Junhao glanced at Jiang Yuan again for confirmation, quickly made a decision: "Leave two cars of people here to watch over this place, the remaining eight cars, two cars per team. Captain Jiang, stay here..."
"I’m with Mu Zhiyang; we’re safe. Just assign me some strong team members," Jiang Yuan suggested, then added, "Everyone does what they can. If it’s safe, make the arrest; if it feels dangerous, just keep surveillance for now. I’ll call for backup if needed."
If really short on staff, Jiang Yuan could make a few phone calls to muster support.
Now, with two vehicles and eight people for one target, they were already more than well-equipped. Calling more people would be seen as overly fussy.
Wu Junhao was simply worried about Jiang Yuan. Under normal arrest missions, his men wouldn’t dare complain.
Wu Junhao decisively said, "Then Captain Jiang, come with me. I’ll call a few more people."
After saying that, he picked several names, then took Duan Xueping directly to the car, ready for the next apprehension scene—if Duan dared to lie, he would have a serious talk with him on-site.
Jiang Yuan watched as Duan Xueping got into the vehicle, a system interface flashing before him:
Task 2: Lead by Example
Task Progress: (3/X)
Task Reward: Bullet Mark Identification (Level 3)
...
Jiang Yuan hissed; now, the anticipation was indeed rising. With simple math, it was clear that one more instance of leading by example would advance the task progress from 3 to 4.
A Level 4 skill, even in Beijing, was worth being noticed.
