Chapter 615: Chapter 559 Taking Annual Leave_2

The police annual leave is like a mystical doctrine. Some units arrange it during quiet periods, meaning it’s scheduled based on the unit’s needs rather than the police officers’; others are a bit more considerate and allow for a choice of time, specifying certain periods when leave is forbidden...

Jiang Yuan’s request for annual leave was very straightforward, and Huang Qiangmin approved it without any hesitation.

Chai Tong wished he could defer Jiang Yuan’s tax collections 30 years into the future and, despite opposition from others, aggressively promoted this idea. Jiang Yuan’s absence itself was a strong show of support for Huang Qiangmin.

After sending out the text message, Jiang Yuan felt much more at ease. He took a ladle and started to help his dad skim off the froth.

The band on the small square excitedly began another round of performance, and the cooked beef and mutton were brought to the tables in stacks, steaming hot and filling the air with a delicious aroma.

Jiang Yuan didn’t want to think too much about it. After helping cook the meat for a while, he simply went over to the area for frying rice, got a wok, and started making fried rice.

The fried rice technique, a legacy bestowed by Uncle Seventeen, hadn’t been used for some time, but as soon as it was served, it immediately became hugely popular.

The next day.

Jiang Yuan followed his dad to inspect the newly purchased ranch.

Jiangcun Residential Area is located on the edge of Ningtai County. It’s just over an hour’s drive to large expanses of grasslands at the base of mountains.

Here, the elevation shoots up quickly, greatly reducing the value for cultivation. Historically, the area was used for raising sheep and horses, but because of the terrain, it never developed into large pastures, and thus the level of animal husbandry was not high.

The outermost part of the grassland is now dominated by farmstays, and in between, there are a few places with "XX Ranch" signs, mainly to hike up the price of horseback riding for tourists.

A mere 10-minute trip into the grassland leads to the ranch bought by Jiang Fuzhen.

Upon getting out of the car, Jiang Yuan looked into the distance and saw a stream flowing from the base of the mountain, winding through the middle of the ranch. Lush green grass spanned on either side of the stream. A bit further away, large patches of exposed earth dotted the landscape. Half of the pasture sloped, with low trees and rocks on one side of the slope.

Jiang Yuan couldn’t help but think that with such terrain, if no one passed by, dropping a body on the slope would mean it could remain undiscovered for three to five years.

And with the local environment, a body left exposed for less than two years could decay to the point where only a Level 2 or higher forensic doctor could identify it.

Of course, if the murderer was a fool or pretended to be clever and set a fire, then the body might be discovered sooner, providing more information.

"How is it? The ranch is good, right?" Jiang Fuzhen proudly showed Jiang Yuan the empire he had established.

Jiang Yuan shifted his gaze from the most likely body-dumping spot, nodded, and said, "I thought you would buy something closer to the edge."

"Being on the edge makes it easy to lose land, and what if it gets requisitioned?" Jiang Fuzhen was worried about this area and couldn’t help saying, "Requisitioning is such a hassle. Just when I’ve gotten the farm equipment sorted and hired new people, getting everything in order, it would all be disrupted..."

"That’s true," Jiang Yuan had to admit his dad had considered everything. If there were a requisition, all the hard work put into the ranch would be in vain, aside from perhaps receiving a significant sum of money.

"Let me take you to the office to have a look. Previously, the ranch mainly raised dairy cows, which are mostly kept in enclosures, along with sheep. The grass from the pasture is harvested on schedule. I’ll get some more beef cattle later and focus on grazing," Jiang Fuzhen explained.

Jiang Yuan asked, "Is the pasture big enough for grazing?"

"Our cattle raising here is mainly grain-fed even when grazing, using Angus breeds, which are delicious when roasted," Jiang Fuzhen said, leading Jiang Yuan to the office.

There were three people in the office who stood up and greeted Jiang Fuzhen without much talk.

Working on the ranch was very free, and with the low salary, there was really no need to suck up to the boss.

Suddenly, the ranch supervisor came up with a stack of documents, looking for Jiang Fuzhen to sign.

The supervisor, who looked to be in his thirties, was dressed in a small leather jacket, wide-legged jeans, and boots, giving off a rather handsome vibe. He nodded at Jiang Yuan and said, "Boss, this is the new contract for purchasing milk, along with the contracts for the sheep we bought previously..."

"Let me have a look," Jiang Fuzhen handed half of them to Jiang Yuan.

He was willing to let Jiang Yuan get involved in the family business, thinking perhaps if Jiang Yuan was lucky, he might just resign?

Jiang Yuan flipped through the contracts indifferently and casually asked, "Is our ranch dominant here? Do we issue the standard contracts and ask the other party to sign?"

"Definitely not, they’re the ones who bring the contracts to us. If we have any comments, we add them to the supplementary terms," the supervisor explained with a smile, "Our ranch is the weaker party, or else Boss Liu would not have sold the ranch."

"The other party’s standard contracts?" Jiang Yuan was somewhat surprised.

"Yes, many of the prices and such are fixed, and there’s no room for negotiation," explained the supervisor with a smile.

"That’s quite troublesome. Boss, how about we look at the contracts later and deal with the matter I mentioned earlier first?" Jiang Yuan put down the contract.

Jiang Fuzhen agreed and smilingly said to the supervisor, "Then you go back to work first, I’ll call you when I’ve sorted this out here."

"Alright." The supervisor nodded and left.

Gada.

As the door closed, Jiang Fuzhen turned to Jiang Yuan.

Jiang Yuan shrugged helplessly and said, "I’ve studied document examination. All these documents were printed from the same printer, merely with slight adjustments in the font size and such. It’s impossible that they were brought by the other party."

"You can tell?"

"There are tricks to it." Jiang Yuan couldn’t admit to being a level 3 document examiner, so he casually pulled out a portable loupe he carried with him, pinched it open between his fingers, picked two contracts at random, and showed his father how to use the loupe. He continued, "You can compare, especially with identical characters, like ’contract’, ’party A’, ’party B’. The edges of the strokes should have tiny serrations, wave patterns, and slight misalignments. These contracts lack all of that; it’s not possible."

"Aren’t printed words supposed to be the same?"

"Different manufacturers have different versions of printer drivers, different technology, different precision in the print heads, and the stability is certainly not the same," Jiang Yuan retorted with a curled lip, adding, "Moreover, the print heads they all used employ Epson’s technology, the same model across seven or eight manufacturers. Local Epson sales are a bit too aggressive, aren’t they?"

"You can even tell by the manufacturer?" Jiang Fuzhen was already convinced, simply curious now.

Jiang Yuan nodded. "HP uses thermal inkjet technology, Canon uses bubble jet technology, and Epson uses piezoelectric technology. The characteristic of piezoelectric technology is that it generates fewer ink splatter dots, which makes it very easy to distinguish. Without comparison, they all might look similar, but in reality, if you compared them, you’d see right away. Text printed with Epson printers has very few edge splatter dots, almost none."

After pausing for a moment, Jiang Yuan added with a smile, "Inkjet printers are the easiest to pinpoint because their nozzles tend to clog easily. Like this printer we’re using now, it’s slightly clogged, so there will be a regular pattern of missing ink. Look at these stripes..."

Jiang Fuzhen followed Jiang Yuan’s direction and indeed saw the obvious white stripes, and the width and length of the stripes were roughly the same.

"No wonder Liu ran away leaving debts behind," Jiang Fuzhen laughed as he looked at the contracts.
