Chapter 614: Chapter 559 Taking Annual Leave

Jiangcun Residential Area.

Jiang Yuan’s car had just entered when crackling firecrackers erupted.

Following that, there came the "boom boom boom" of the cannon, startling Jiang Yuan.

It was only upon entering that he realized it was the newly purchased electronic ceremonial cannon from the village committee.

"From now on, whenever the cannon sounds, everyone will know it’s mealtime, which is quite convenient," said Mrs. Hua with a chuckle. It was her suggestion for the committee to buy this equipment, and it evidently worked well, as everyone knew about it.

"Quite special," Jiang Yuan remarked, looking at the yellow cannon. What else could he say, as long as it brought joy. In the storehouse of Jiang Village, such a collectible would not be missing.

As for wastefulness, any organization tends to waste, and the village level was no exception.

"First-class merit... first-class merit!"

A bunch of kids, upon hearing the commotion, ran over in a frenzy, swarming around Jiang Yuan like pigs bolting at the sound of a feeding bell.

Jiang Village had a high birth rate, and in a moment, more than a dozen small children accumulated at Jiang Yuan’s feet. Mrs. Hua handed Jiang Yuan a red envelope, from which he drew out bill after bill and distributed them to the youngsters below.

Since the redevelopment, Jiang Village had embarked on a path of flaunting wealth, with a focus on showing off prosperity. The children had more pocket money now, and most importantly, the parents wouldn’t take it away.

Thus, every bill they now held would ultimately end up at the convenience store at the entrance of the residential area, making it truly circulating and belonging to them.

For this reason, they were particularly diligent about running errands.

Jiang Yuan thought it was a good thing, as the people of Jiang Village were certainly not lacking in money. But there wasn’t a proper way to distribute it among the family members, especially the adolescents.

Compared to that, giving out red packets was a very good practice.

"I heard from dad that there’s a feast being prepared, how’s it going?" Jiang Yuan asked after he finished handing out the stack of money, turning to Mrs. Hua.

Mrs. Hua smiled and said, "It’s going really well, very lively. Your dad has organized so many parties. He’s been thinking about your ceremony for achieving first-class merit for a long time; he just waited for you to do it again. There’s even a live band performing. But he didn’t dare tell you, afraid that you’d take risks just to achieve merit. Did you face any danger this time?"

Mrs. Hua’s rapid succession of words left no time for Jiang Yuan to respond.

Jiang Yuan shook his head with a smile: "I deal with the technical side of things. I don’t usually encounter criminals, so there’s not much danger."

"That’s good if there’s really no danger. Your dad has been too busy collecting rents lately; if it’s too dangerous, you could come back and help him out with that. The ranch he’s running is quite large; it takes more than an hour to drive there. One trip would take almost a whole day..." Mrs. Hua rambled on, saying the kind of things people in the village often talked about.

Jiang Yuan kept Mrs. Hua company chatting as they moved deeper into the residential area, where he could see the bustling crowd in the communal space, a lively scene indeed. Some people were even running around with drinks in hand, reminiscent of Chai Tong and other officials, but Jiang Yuan found this atmosphere much more appealing.

"Dad," Jiang Yuan went straight to the back kitchen to see his father. The father and son didn’t make a big deal of such meetings at home, and Jiang Yuan could usually find him downstairs.

Jiang Fuzhen lifted his gaze from the steaming pots, waved Jiang Yuan over, and asked, "You’ve been awarded first-class merit again?"

"Yes," Jiang Yuan replied, showing his father the certificate and the medal.

Jiang Fuzhen nodded, then nodded again, letting out a sigh, "Was it difficult?"

"Not too much. The case wasn’t that hard," Jiang Yuan said.

Jiang Fuzhen caught something in his son’s voice, threw down the spoon he was using to skim the broth, and asked, "The case wasn’t hard; what was?"

Jiang Yuan hesitated for a moment before saying, "The new director at the county bureau is quite scheming. He’ll probably start competing with Director Huang soon."

Some people don’t like discussing work or school matters with their parents, finding it pointless. But Jiang Fuzhen was different. As the wealthiest man in Jiang Village, he might seem to be just cooking meat all day, but maintaining wealth was a feat in itself.

The issues Jiang Yuan brought up didn’t seem complicated to Jiang Fuzhen.

"Are you supporting it?" Jiang Fuzhen asked.

"Yes," Jiang Yuan briefly explained.

"The gap between the chief and deputy positions in your type of organizations is huge," Jiang Fuzhen pointed out sharply.

The chief positions in the bureau were high profile, equipped with many tools, and it was only because Chai Tong was new that Huang Qiangmin had a window of ease.

Jiang Fuzhen asked a couple more questions, then said, "It’s inevitable anyway, but you don’t have to take sides."

Jiang Yuan grinned, "Working on cases with Director Huang is pretty straightforward, and I have a lot of say. With Director Chai, he’s too purpose-driven, and he chooses cases based on different criteria..."

Jiang Fuzhen understood most of it. Honestly, he couldn’t care less about Jiang Yuan’s achievements. From this perspective, even a director could only offer promotions at best, and it wasn’t likely Jiang Yuan would be promoted out of turn.

To Jiang Yuan, what would a promotion in Ningtai County amount to? If he considered promotions, transferring to a higher-level unit would lead to a quicker rise, and it would be better to return to Ningtai County later. If he wasn’t choosing that path, why bother pandering to Chai Tong just for a promotion?

"Given that, take some time to rest at home; you should have some leave, right?" Jiang Fuzhen offered a viable suggestion.

Upon hearing this, Jiang Yuan thought it sounded good. He pulled out his phone—not to make a call, but to compose a message to Huang Qiangmin, requesting his annual leave.
