Chapter 563: Chapter 511: Smash the Cup as a Signal

p.m.

After turning over the house of a bachelor from the Huang Li gang who had settled in Qinghe City, bottom side up, Jiang Yuan found a significant number of biological samples and fingerprints, along with other trace evidence. Conveniently, he also discovered a bank card hidden in a crevice of the wall, and returned home satisfied with his haul.

The core members of the Huang Li gang all lived in Changyang City. Their homes had all been visited by people sent by Wan Baoming.

Today, Jiang Yuan cleaned up this member, who was a stationed member of the Huang Li gang in Qinghe City. Had it not been for a cohort ratting him out to earn merit, there might have been a chance for him to slip away.

As for now, judging solely by the amount frozen on the bank card, he was like a squirrel at the winter solstice who found its food storage pilfered. If he ever got out of prison, he would probably be so angry that he’d burst a blood vessel in his eye.

The policemen were all as delighted as if they were celebrating the New Year. Despite having arrested so many members of the drug gang this time, the spoils divided among them meant that each person did not even get a "leg’s" share. Especially the members of the Bald Strike Team, who arrived late and rarely had a chance to independently crack a case. Now, having cut off a criminal’s escape route and incidentally bringing back conclusive evidence that could send him to heaven, each felt as though they had a predestined connection with Buddha.

On the way back, the conversation was spirited and exuberant. Once the guns were handed in and the uniforms were changed, and it was time to head back to the hotel, Jiang Yuan invited everyone to go out for a late-night snack.

After working overtime until this hour, anyone would feel famished. No one refused the offer, and a group of people followed Jiang Yuan to a brightly lit restaurant in their own cars.

Qinghe City, being a prefectural-level city, did not boast large or particularly luxurious restaurants, but this one specialized in dinner and late-night snacks and had a certain charm about it. The online reviews were favorable.

After getting out of the car, among those who came to the scene was the forensic investigator from the Changyang City Criminal Science Center. After searching the restaurant’s name online and feeling a bit embarrassed, he whispered to Captain Jiang, "Captain Jiang, this place looks quite expensive. I don’t think the special investigation team will cover this expense."

He feared that the Ningtai People were too wild, and that when it came time to submit expenses, it would be awkward if they got denied.

Jiang Yuan waved his hand dismissively. "I’ll treat everyone to dinner."

"This..." The forensic investigator had heard the stories about Jiang Village People but being accustomed to working in a lab, he hadn’t taken it seriously, and now seemed hesitant.

"Stop worrying. Captain Jiang is a Jiang Village Person among Jiang Village People. Just eat your meal and listen. Just don’t go around talking about it or posting recklessly on social media, and it’ll be fine," Mu Zhiyang said, wrapping an arm around the simple investigator, already filled with an intense desire to devour his meal.

The group entered, and the manager of the hall hurried to greet them. After exchanging pleasantries, he suggested probingly, "All our private rooms are full, but there aren’t too many people in the dining hall. How about we set up in the dining hall? I can bring over a few screens and reserve three tables for you all. It’ll be spacious and convenient."

"That’s fine." Jiang Yuan wasn’t planning on dining extravagantly; he merely wanted to express his gratitude to the many who accompanied him in the investigation.

Frankly, it was quite nerve-wracking to enter a drug dealer’s house late at night, strapped in cumbersome equipment, and then focus intently on collecting evidence while crouched on the ground. If luck was not on their side, someone could easily crack their skull open from behind.

But with a group of strong, bald men both inside and outside the house, the sense of security was truly invaluable.

Once everyone was seated and they had the menu in hand, Jiang Yuan looked at the number of people at his table, especially at the brawny members of the Bald Strike Team, and then at the menu, filled with more illustrations than text, and suggested, "Just fry up one of everything on the menu."

The restaurant staff, evidently unaccustomed to hosting Jiang Village People, asked, "Could you please repeat the dish names? I didn’t get them clearly."

"Just fry up one of each dish listed in the menu," Jiang Yuan said, casually flipping through the menu, assuming it wouldn’t add many dishes. He added, "For those not available, don’t bother, and please serve them quickly."

"Uh... okay," the server finally understood, took a look at Jiang Yuan and the others, and, not thinking that they were there to cause trouble, hastily went to inform the kitchen.

Lu Tongda was joining Jiang Yuan for dinner for the first time and was dumbfounded by the request, blurting out, "The food at this restaurant can’t be cheap, right?"

"Our salaries definitely can’t handle this kind of splurge," Mu Zhiyang knew what he was thinking, and responded, "Just enjoy the treat. For some activities, it only takes one person to pull the weight."

Wu Junhao, however, understood Jiang Yuan very well and lamented, "If my dad were this rich, I’d treat the brothers at the station to roujiamo and hand-grabbed pancakes every day."

The team members, sipping tea, looked at Jiang Yuan, then at Captain Wu, and thought about roujiamo, deciding that having such a dad wouldn’t be too bad...

The dishes arrived quickly.

A dozen plates of cold dishes were first brought to the table. Without any fanfare, they were swiftly devoured by the group.

Then came the dishes, two or three, then three or four at a time, all of which were quickly emptied by the group.

Jiang Yuan and his people were fine, but Wu Junhao and his subordinates were true gluttons, fighting with an ever-increasing vigor.

Mu Zhiyang eventually couldn’t keep up, quietly ladled out some soup, and while sipping said, "Think about it, Captain Wu really has it tough, leading a team of men as fierce as wolves. Even if it’s just treating them to roujiamo, it must cost a pretty penny."

"My treat is for roujiamo, not all-you-can-eat roujiamo," responded Wu Junhao with a laugh when he overheard.

Mu Zhiyang also chuckled, "That’s true. With subordinates like yours, if they ate meat all they wanted every day, the drug dealers would have to work overtime."
