Chapter 978: Chapter 356: The Captured Queen Defeated in Battle (Thanks to the Alliance Leader ’Vileed’ for the Reward)

Night.

West District Grand Cemetery.

A thin mist spread, enveloping the neatly arranged tombstones.

The withered trees surrounding the area twisted and lay dormant in the fog, their silhouettes barely visible. Occasionally, a cold wind would stir, causing the mist to billow and unveil the varying depths of scars on the tombstones. The branches rustled like the whispers of lost souls in conversation.

In the Inverted World, there was no concept of sun and moon; both kinds of light emanated from the mirror that covered the sky.

As day and night alternated in the Outer World, so did changes occur in the Inverted World, living forever in the shadow of the other, even the scant light was that which the other left behind.

Hatred and envy, then, were not difficult to understand.

Tonight, the Grand Cemetery was as tranquil as ever, with the Death Knight, Wayne, draped in a tattered grey robe, gazing upward at the mirror of the Outer World, his eyes blood-red and flashing a bone-chilling coldness.

The Death Knight had a scar on his face that stretched from the left eye socket to the upper lip, a sword wound that cut into the skull, almost splitting the face in two.

The sword wound had been dealt by the Dark Knight Austin and was beyond repair, its pain pricking at the Death Knight’s mind each day.

He didn’t see it as a disgrace; scars were the medals of the mighty. If there was any shame, it was in the Outer World, where ’he’ betrayed the faith of Death. He could only watch helplessly as his counterpart lived a carefree life, unable to take revenge for this humiliation.

"Wayne, you deserve to die!"

The Death Knight Wayne muttered ’his’ own name; he had once been summoned to the Outer World, but because the projection summoning could not wield full power, he lost a great opportunity.

Furthermore, he was thoroughly humiliated by the other party.

Every time he thought of it, he felt a sense of anger and hatred, praying for the Goddess of Death to grant him a chance to avenge his past shame, preferably by making his counterpart come to the Inverted World, so they could have a fair fight with all their might.

Such a notion was far-fetched, and the Death Knight himself did not believe it, hence it remained just a wishful thought, fantasized about when the night was deep and all was still.

Beside him, the Undead Warhorse Euryale pawed the ground, with the Knight’s Shadowmare Sabre hanging by the saddle.

In the Outer World, Euryale was a happy and blissful little mare; her past and present owners adored her, she needed to worry about nothing, spent her days carefree, and when bored, she would play with Ah Bin, having learned some dog language.

The Inverted World’s Undead Warhorse was not so happy, gloomy and indifferent, speaking little, the skeletal head holding deep-seated grudges, exuding a persistently frustrated air.

Somewhat farther away, Juno and her fiancé, Alisa, waited listlessly.

Strictly speaking, the West District Grand Cemetery was not exactly the stronghold of the Death Knight/Princess’s Faction, nor was Lando Manor the stronghold of the Dark Knight/Queen’s Faction. As the powers of Darkness and Death Knights grew stronger, the relationship between allies turned into one of dominance and submission, and their places of operation accordingly shifted.

"Wayne, there was a lot of activity at Lando Manor today; the Dark Knight seems to have encountered a formidable enemy. Shouldn’t we go take a look?" Juno said, finally losing her patience.

Why not go take a peek? Maybe they hurt each other badly, and the Dark Knight is on the verge of death!

During the day, Death Knight Wayne and Juno had formulated a strategy of using calculated plans, with their primary target being Queen Sophia; capturing her and confining her in the dungeon would weaken the Dark Knight’s forces.

Of course, it would be excellent to get rid of the Dark Knight as well.

The Queen still held her charms and was also the Dark Knight’s lover, with many uses. Capturing her alive would ensure a strategic advantage.

To put it bluntly, it’s not a day or two that Juno, the bold and rebellious, coveted Sophia. In the past, she had the desire but not the courage; now, she had both, the only thing lacking was power.

Death Knight Wayne only wanted to kill the Dark Knight; Juno had no interest in the Dark Knight but aimed for Sophia, creating a strategic divergence.

It was with difficulty that she convinced the Death Knight, and yet today he did not show up.

Asking would mean a certain defeat; it’s better to hold off in case the Dark Knight has tricks up his sleeve. Wait and see first.

Priority was to play it safe!

Juno looked at her protégé with frustration; she felt uncomfortable every time the Death Knight used his head.

You, an empty-headed creature, why even think? You don’t even have a brain!

In the Inverted World, there was no comparison between the cunning of Darkness and Death Knight. They had been at an impasse for nearly two years, partly due to Juno’s advice acting as an external brain for the Death Knight, and partly because Austin could not escape the shadow of his late wife, often descending into a frenzy when confronting the Death Knight.

The battle reached a stage of pure brute strength; the two Windsor Strongwomen were evenly matched, hence the deadlock they found themselves in until today!

To break this equilibrium, it was imperative to eliminate Sophia.

Juno reaffirmed the strategic plan, then seeing the Death Knight still gazing skyward, as if his undying love resided there in the Outer World, she bit the bullet and said, "Wayne, your background isn’t great, nor are your academic achievements outstanding. You’ve had your share of hardship and toil from a young age, and that’s all caused by Queen Sophia. The state our country’s in, she bears undeniable responsibility.

"Your enemies are not only the Dark Knight but also Queen Sophia. Trust me just this once; let’s devise a tactic to lure the enemy deeper and viciously avenge ourselves by capturing her."

"She is a Queen, the mother of two children, a widow, and also the lover of your archenemy, the Dark Knight!"
