Chapter 967: Chapter 353: To tell you the truth, you are actually my father_2

There was no victory or defeat, nor a distinction between life and death.

The Death Knight Wayne remained immobile, gazing at the angels locked in a fight to the death, two red glows in the eye sockets of his skeletal face silently unmoving, not a ripple of emotion to be found.

He was waiting for Austin to make the first move.

However, there was no sign of Austin; some unforeseen event must have occurred on his side, and he had been absent for a long time.

If he didn’t show up, Sophia was doomed today.

"Are you going to use my hand to slay the disobedient pawn, or are you waiting for me to strike first?" The Death Knight touched the scar on his face, a sting reminding him as if it had been just yesterday.

An abnormal situation certainly spelled trouble!

If the enemy doesn’t move, neither do I!

The first to act is doomed!

These were the lessons Juno had taught Death Knight Wayne, which he found quite sensible. Today, Austin’s every move seemed uncharacteristically erratic, most likely concealing some foul trick.

He trusted Austin’s wisdom, certainly more cunning than his own, he snorted coldly, and rode away on his Undead Warhorse.

As the Cloak of Death Energy spread like a curtain, it rolled across the ruins of the city, extinguishing all life in its path.

The majestic curtain rose slowly and unhurriedly to the center of the battlefield, whereupon the three female angels quickly dispersed, avoiding the edge of the sky-reaching Cloak of Death Energy, daring not to touch its sharpness.

Juno, upon receiving the signal from Death Knight Wayne to retreat, felt discontent but dared not grumble, leaving behind a fierce remark about claiming his bride another day and hastily departed with her betrothed.

Sophia wanted to pursue, but without the support of the Dark Knight, she held her dissatisfaction close and dared not complain, turning to fly towards the direction of their main camp.

It was supposed to go according to plan; why the sudden change of heart? Was this the latest play?

...

Lando Manor.

The manor’s gate was half-open, its carvings and family crest blurred and unclear, the iron studs also speckled with rust.

Stepping into the manor, a desolate courtyard greeted one’s view.

The once-flourishing flowerbeds and greenery were now overgrown with weeds, withered vines entwined around the crumbling statues, and the small grove was patchy, with only a few trees barely surviving thanks to the sustainment of Dark Energy.

The main house was largely collapsed, the windows shattered, the remnants of curtains fluttering in the wind, making a rustling sound. The roof tiles were incomplete, rainwater seeping through the cracks into the house, leaving behind damp traces.

Inside the house was a greater mess; furniture overturned, broken china, books, and clothes scattered all over the floor.

Every corner of the manor was suffused with an air of sorrow, like an abandoned island standing alone amidst the ruins of the apocalypse.

A scene of ruin and desertion, where laughter and joy had turned to mist.

Austin stood in the small woods, brushing his hand across the trunk of a tree, his temples graying, a flash of reminiscence in his blood-red eyes.

He took out the pocket watch hanging on his chest, its hands motionless, fixed at the moment the Naturalism Church was breached by the Death Knight, the same moment Slyphy died.

This forgotten isle was Austin’s final resting place for his soul. Gazing at the photo of his wife on the watch, his crimson eyes blazed with vengefulness.

A booming murderous intent morphed into a Dark Python, coiling above the manor, its dreadful pressure warping the air, tugging at ripples of darkness.

"Master, you need to remain rational."

Butler Megan stood behind Austin, expressionless, in a neat women’s suit and white gloves.

At her words, Austin’s murderous aura dissipated, he turned to look at Megan, whose golden hair and features were identical to the deceased Slyphy.

Megan was originally crafted to resemble Slyphy, with some adjustments made, looking about seventy to eighty percent similar, and even the body shape was an exact match. After Slyphy’s death, Megan had completely taken on her appearance, which allowed Austin to keep his last shred of sanity in the midst of his madness.

"Slyphy..."

Austin raised his hand to touch Megan’s face.

She closed her eyes and turned her head, her cheek brushing against his rough palm, softly saying, "Yes, it’s me, I’ve always been by your side."

Austin took a deep breath, the red glow in his eyes fading slightly, and he ruthlessly withdrew his hand.

Megan wasn’t surprised, having grown accustomed to it. As a subpar substitute, she was used to the feeling of loss and also to the jealousy for Slyphy.

Megan firmly believed that she couldn’t replace Slyphy because the latter was already dead, leaving behind an indelible longing in Austin’s heart, an emotional knot that couldn’t be undone, barring the entrance to a second person’s embrace.

If Slyphy were still alive, she was certain she would have taken her place, or at the very least, become a secret lover.

Not far from the two, a figure in a Black Robe stood silently: "Knight Lord, have you made up your mind?"

Beneath the hood of the Black Robe was a porcelain-white face, the Puppet body housing the thoughts of Holy Maiden Anastasia of the Dark Church.

She had come to Lundan in search of the Dark Knight, hoping to gain his support to fight against the Naturalism Church and take revenge on Saina for her father.

"I’ve thought it over, and I’m not interested."

Austin replied without turning his head: "This is the Inverted World, neither of us has a future here, my only target is the Death Knight, and I will kill him before the world ends."

His cold voice was like a bone-chilling wind, shaking even the bodiless Anastasia to her core.

"Knight Lord, you possess Twilight Deadlock, you have a future..."

"My world is already dead. I have no future!"

Austin knew what Anastasia wanted to suggest, which was to achieve demigod status and leave this world. He might have the ability to leave, but what then? Where to go, to the Outer World to find and replace his counterpart?

That wasn’t his world, devoid of the people he loved, and where seeing hope and beauty would only deepen his despair.
