Chapter 797: Chapter 309: I Choose Austin, for He Is the People’s Choice_4
He had never contemplated rebellion, not once.
"Austin, what’s the point of saying all this now? The strong wish to be stronger, and the strong shall always be strong. The King is worthy of your mighty status. Ask the members of the Tulip Family if you are not the one they all look up to!" Wayne bellowed at the top of his lungs.
As his words faded, the members of the Tulip Family collectively shook their heads.
"The Boswell Family supports only the King and swears to defend the King’s honor unto death!"
"Long live the King!"
"Cavendish as well."
"Well said!"
A group of fair-weather friends with no loyalty spoke of defending the King’s honor, yet they stood still, not specifying which King they referred to.
Confronted by Queen Sophia’s cold stare, the members of the Tulip Family all lowered their heads, lamenting their predicament.
Considering their past oaths, if they had to choose, they would prefer to serve Queen Sophia, but they were like meals without the right to choose, powerless to decide.
What else could they do now but show fervent loyalty to the future King?
Rush up and test if Shadowmare is sharp?
Don’t joke, one slash of that sword and poof, you’d be ashes.
"Death Knight, shut your mouth!" Austin nearly roared.
"Understood, Your Majesty."
"..."
Queen Sophia kept shaking her head. Whether Austin intended it or not, he had been elevated by the four churches; at this point, whether he wanted to be King or not was no longer for him to decide.
Queen Sophia decisively cut off the ties between them, caressing the ring on her finger as dark rifts tore open around her, with four Legendary Mages protecting her in the center.
Yvette, Anick, and Shati, the three deputy heads of the Magic Department, and Herman, the commander of the Holy Light Knights stationed at Windsor Castle.
In the process, they also shielded Douglas, who was trembling with rage, in the center.
Although Douglas’s performance had been deeply disappointing to Queen Sophia, his actions against Austin had indeed revealed a threat; the Lando Family’s power had inflated to the point where even the Royal Family could not shake it.
The four churches were clearly supporting the Lando Family—no doubt the Sun Church would not want to be left out either. Was the Heavenly Father’s Court also prepared?
Queen Sophia glanced at Austin: "Your allies are too powerful. Believe me, they are really not trustworthy. Power only counts when it is in your own hands. They could betray me today; they might betray you tomorrow."
Austin gave a bitter smile. Logically, that was true, but his own family matters were a bit chaotic.
Wayne alone could summon five God-chosen Knights, plus a Reincarnated Angel and an Ancient God Knight; the Church truly supported the Randao Family from the bottom of their hearts.
Furthermore, the Queen was mistaken; the future of the Randao Family was not for him to decide.
The four Legendary Mages stood on high alert. Anick and Shati from Frank did not dare face the Death Knight and were already contemplating their escape.
Their restlessly shuffling hands betrayed their nerves; if the Death Knight charged, they would salute.
Herman, who was not acquainted with Austin, glanced at the robust Randao Family and wiped a bead of cold sweat from his brow. Yvette, on the other hand, stared at Austin, dumbfounded, unable to believe he would rebel.
"Your Majesty the Queen, we are outnumbered by the enemy, perhaps it is best to surrender. Austin is a man of integrity and fondness for the past; he won’t mistreat you," Wayne suggested, trembling Shadowmare as he began to coax a surrender.
"Death Knight, this is the headquarters of the Magic Department in Windsor, and I am the head of the Magic Department. This is my domain," Queen Sophia said, her eyes slightly narrowed, her fingertips caressing the ring.
"Aaaahh————"
At that moment, a sudden change occurred on the field. Douglas screamed in agony, clutching his head as if he had gone mad.
The whine of a defeated dog, understandable.
Wayne initially didn’t pay much attention, not until a strong scent of Hell spread from Douglas’s body, which is when he realized something was wrong.
Douglas’s body rapidly expanded. In the blink of an eye, he was transformed: pale skin, blood-red large lips, keratin face armor that covered half of his face, and those six sinister golden pupils exuding the aura of Hell.
Familiars!
Wayne shook his head repeatedly. Being the Queen’s husband was tough indeed; even the Prince couldn’t escape becoming a vessel for the Devil’s descent upon the earth.
And the Queen herself, had she also become a vessel?
Which Demon King—surely the Queen was not a Succubus?
"Douglas, you..."
This incident, sudden and beyond everyone’s expectation, left Queen Sophia in shock as she watched her husband’s form alter drastically, not comprehending what was happening to him.
Desire of the Devil may be exploited, but one must not let the Devil exploit their desires; these were lessons she ought to have taught.
In the moment their eyes met, Queen Sophia sensed the overwhelming malice and hurriedly activated the teleportation magic embedded in her ring.
Whoosh!
A blood-red afterimage flickered by. Douglas swept past the stunned Anick, his hand outstretched grasping Queen Sophia’s face, disappearing with her the instant she teleported.
"Pursue!"
