Chapter 782: Chapter 306 Death Knight: I am not fond of fighting, so I must resolve conflicts
Lundan East District, Bedford Shipyard.
The nighttime harbor was shrouded in a gossamer mist. Whenever the fog gradually dissipated towards the sea, a gentle breeze would sweep it towards the shore, preventing it from spreading outward.
This fog existed only in Lundan!
Moonlight filtered through the thin mist and spilled onto the surface of the harbor, creating a blurry silver halo. Distant ships were barely visible, their faint lights like tiny stars lost in a dream.
The fog returned to the harbor with the sea breeze, bringing bursts of the sea’s salty scent. The quiet bay at night was rarely rowdy with human activity; there were only soft waves lapping against the boats and the distant sound of ship horns as they approached the shore.
It was extremely quiet.
Every night, in some corners unknown to most, lights were lit, figures moved about, and quiet conspiracies whispered.
Not far from the shipyard, a cruise ship bearing the Bedford family crest slowly left the harbor and stealthily moved into the silent, dark sea.
There were not many tourists on the cruise ship, just a few important guests.
Belfort Bedford hosted a banquet and specially invited a few friends who weren’t entirely friendly. They would converse through the night, speaking only of business and not of national affairs.
Among the fourteen Tulip families, the Bedford family had made certain achievements in both business and magic.
In business, the Bedford family owned the largest shipyard in Lundan, with a vast industrial chain. Millions of workers relied on them for their livelihood. Their influence covered various sectors, and they never lacked friends wherever they went.
In the Windsor Magic Circle, the Bedford family’s crowning achievement was Belfort Bedford, a Legendary Mage from the Windsor Magic Department, who kept a low profile and focused on making money. He usually did not voice his opinions, but when he did, he always stood by the Queen, a staunch royalist.
In the Windsor Magic Department, alongside the Legendary Mage Ob, Yvette, and Allen, the prominent figures such as Planck, Borne, Herman, and Celeste also held the title of Legendary Mage. Counting these individuals, there were eight Legendary Mages, reflecting the nation’s formidable strength and the reputation of an old and powerful country.
Moreover, the majority of these Legendary Mages were from the Tulip family, the former Tulip Knight Order, which showed the Royal Family’s monopolistic rule over every aspect of Windsor.
Even with the betrayal of Ob and the disappearance of Allen, who were both deputy ministers, the Queen was able to fill these positions in the shortest time. The paper strength was off the charts, the heritage was long and profound, and everything was deeply unfathomable.
It was no coincidence that the Windsor Royal Family had been able to maintain a balance and withstand the pressure from the Heavenly Father’s Court for so many years.
But let’s get back to the point. Returning to the cruise ship, in a lavishly decorated conference room within the grand hall, Belfort Bedford, clad in his Mage robe, was enjoying a delightful conversation with several guests.
These guests all came from the Tulip family.
Barney from the Boswell family, Rupert from the Wilson family, Filster from the Julian family, as well as representatives from the Woodson family, the Cavendish family, and the Spencer family.
Including the Bedford family, which was hosting the banquet, seven out of the fourteen Tulip families were present, dominating half of Windsor’s power landscape.
Considering that the traitor Ob led to the sidelining of the Patino family, there were effectively only thirteen Tulip families left. With seven exceeding six, the seven families on the cruise held an absolute majority when it came to voting.
Not only that, but the Legendary Mage Borne from the Magic Department was also present on the cruise. His excellent relationship with Planck meant that his attendance could be taken as if Planck was there in spirit.
As everyone looked around at their allies, they felt confident and capable. Many believed the matter was well in hand.
The host, Belfort Bedford, didn’t think so. There were too few guests; attendance was seriously lacking and there were still some from the Tulip families who harbored illusions about the Queen.
In addition, the attending families each had their own agendas, making for a risky situation that was as scattered as sand.
For example, Barney from the Boswell family was far too preoccupied with making money; he was likely an undercover sent by the Queen.
Rupert from the Wilson family, who was vying for the position of the next Prime Minister and desperately needed political capital, was likely another undercover sent by the Queen.
Filster from the Julian family spent his days selling lottery tickets and his nights selling tobacco. Aside from his secretaries, he was always involved in events. He might not be an undercover sent by the Queen, but his tendency to join in whenever there was excitement suggested that his presence tonight was just for the thrill, making no real difference whether he was there or not.
The Woodson family used to be quite influential, with the deputy minister Allen hailing from their ranks. But now, they had declined, with Allen missing and only the small fish left. They were likely the dregs the Queen disregarded.
Counting them up, only the Cavendish and Spencer families were reliable, having had years of business cooperation and always following the Bedford family’s lead. Belfort Bedford trusted these two families completely.
However, these two families did not engage in magic and only had considerable influence in the secular world. In the Magic Realm, they were virtually ignored.
The ones who should have come didn’t, and the ones who shouldn’t have, did!
"Did the Lando family not come?"
"How could Austin come? He is the Queen’s lover. Every time the Queen speaks, he is the first to rush to the forefront. He is not one of us," Rupert said sarcastically.
"Well said!" Filster nodded repeatedly.
The Wilson family had recently clashed with the Lando family. During audits, Austin had fined the Wilson family, and during the Lando family’s heir selection, Rupert publicly revealed Wayne’s identity as an undercover.
As they went back and forth, it was Austin’s turn to wield power once more. During the key moment of selecting the Prime Ministerial candidate, he cast his precious vote for Winston Cueter, Rupert’s political adversary.
