Chapter 559: Chapter 240 Dragon Blood Curse
Forest.
Leaves sway with the breeze, rustling as if whispering.
Wayne stood in the forest with his eyes closed, caressing the ring on his index finger, listening to the whispers, feeling the omnipresent vitality and vigor.
Two rings adorned Wayne’s hand, a Fire Elemental Ring that pretended to have high Elemental Affinity, and the Mind Ring given by Saina.
The former wasn’t worth talking about, for the third party’s service was so poor it dragged down Wayne’s Fire Elemental Affinity.
The latter, however, was a different story, possessing the magic power to communicate with nature. It could strengthen the possessor’s Faith Magic while reducing thought and Magic Power consumption, all the while maintaining the display and power of the magic unchanged.
The mage’s thoughts and Magic Power decrease, yet the magic’s power remains as strong as ever, if not stronger.
The question arises, what has been added to the formula?
After pondering all night, Wayne concluded that the effect of the ring’s communication with nature was the addition to the formula; nature itself had been included.
The ring might not be strong, but nature is mighty indeed. With the power of nature, even a trivial effort could turn the formula into a puff pastry.
Another night of contemplation led Wayne to wonder, could the ring, like his Fire Elemental Ring, be severely diminishing the power of nature?
Maybe nature could have infused more, but because the ring was too tight, it reduced the output, downgrading the oatmeal porridge to a puff pastry.
Wayne had long craved a bowl of oatmeal porridge!
This had always been his little goal.
Previously clueless, and still unsuccessful even after transforming into an Elf, he had always been missing something. Now, though...
"Barely passable, still missing something, but what exactly is missing?"
Wayne caressed the ring, setting aside what was missing for the moment and remembering the current sensation. Once he mastered it, perhaps he could abandon the ring and truly receive nature’s oatmeal porridge.
Puff pastries, who would want those when there’s oatmeal porridge!
Wayne nodded in agreement, the choice before him was not a difficult one. Not just for him, but even Philomena, Mona, or Chris would know that oatmeal porridge keeps one full.
The forest rustled as Wayne crouched down to study the dappled light and shadow. The sunlight filtered through the leaves, casting a sloppy and complex pattern on the ground, chaotic and devoid of any logic.
Wayne believed these were a form of writing, a means for nature to convey its voice. With the changing seasons and from day to night, the scenery of nature changes, as does the message it conveys.
He dispersed a thread of thought without exerting Magic Power, casting natural Faith Magic through the effect of the ring’s communication with nature.
In front of him, the withered yellow leaves slowly lifted their heads as if reaching out to the sky, embracing the sunlight.
The greenery grew denser; the once-dead vegetation now teemed with life.
Wayne could not revive the dead, that was not within human capability. He considered the forest before him as a whole, an entity made up of countless living consciousnesses. He conveyed the dried grass’s will to live and received mutual aid from other consciousnesses, thus gaining nourishment and protection.
"Balance..."
Once again, Wayne felt the importance of balance. Mages are balanced, this forest is balanced, spreading to all of nature, and even to the entirety of the Great Void Cosmos, everything is balanced.
"The ring is just a tool for communication, no, a loudspeaker that forcibly opens a channel for me to interact with nature. Remember this feeling, without the ring, I can do it, but..."
In the end, it was still forced, and nature was unwilling, making the oatmeal porridge seem half-hearted, with the milk not even covering the oats.
Wayne didn’t want a married middle-aged nature; he craved a nature that longed to explore the true essence of life, preferably a sporty one.
"So, what exactly is missing?"
Wayne transformed into a two-meter-tall Elf, his clothing shifting from the Black Scale Battle Suit without any wardrobe malfunction.
His mind spread out, resonating with the surrounding grass and trees, forming a green domain with Wayne at the center.
No Magic Power fluctuations, just the exchange of thoughts.
Wayne opened his pale green eyes, making eye contact with a Forest Bird nearby, which hopped on the branch, cocking its head to observe Wayne.
Bird: This tree is too short and ugly, unsuitable for nesting.
Gently, Wayne extended his hand, his mind flashing by, and the Forest Bird landed on his fingertip, pecking it lightly.
Behind him, the sound of stealthy footsteps approached. The bird saw the silhouette of a prehistoric beast reflected in its eyes and, scared, took flight with shrill cries.
Veronica watched the forest come to life, overwhelmed by the surging vitality that fascinated her, quickly walking up beside the Elf and staring unblinkingly at the delicate and beautiful cheek.
Though beautiful it was indeed!
Wayne changed back to his original form, sighing, "Look at what you’ve done, we were just one step away from having turkey tonight."
"Leave the turkey alone, it’s still a child."
Veronica sarcastically remarked, then eagerly said, "Wayne, I want to learn this."
"Which part, becoming an Elf?"
An Elf was beyond the realm of possibility for Veronica who bore Dragon Blood; Dragons lived on a higher plane than Elves, and it was impossible for her to transform into one in her lifetime.
Veronica knew this well, feeling a slight regret but also indifferent; she couldn’t become an Elf, but Wayne could, which by extension, made it seem like she could too.
"I want to learn the magic you just used..."
Veronica struggled to describe it; the mighty life force had left her intoxicated, and combined with the fighting style of Dragon Blood, it felt like she had become a perpetual motion machine.
"That one is rather complicated to learn and heavily relies on talent," Wayne explained, finding it hard to describe. He knew the situation well; talent was important, but the key was cheating the system.
Veronica had the talent, but she didn’t have the cheat, making it impossible for her to learn.
