Chapter 547: Chapter 236: The Little Devil’s Smile
"Ah, you want me to meet the Death Knight?"
In the study of Lando Manor, Wayne stared at Austin with wide eyes and said vehemently, "Are you out of your mind? That’s the Death Knight, who kills without a second thought; you’re clearly sending me to my death."
The birthday party at the suburban castle had come to an end, the Financial City’s Mayor Chang’an Angelo had caught a cold that turned into pneumonia, and with a serious illness making it impossible for him to work, he had to resign from his mayoral position and vanished from the public eye.
The Prince’s lover, Sander, left Windsor carrying his lofty artistic pursuits and chased his dreams in a foreign land.
In the eyes of outsiders, Mayor Angelo had recommended his own relative to the Prince, causing a scandal for the Royal Family and taking the initiative to resign. Sander was also driven out of Windsor.
Few knew the truth, that Angelo and Sander had been long gone, and Juliet, who had been manipulating them from behind the scenes, was slain by the Death Knight.
The matter had come to an end.
Celeste returned to the Magic Department and relayed the Death Knight’s request to the Queen: Shadowmare was a Divine Artifact, a sword that must be named upon its unsheathing.
No name, no harm.
In short, pay up.
The Queen thought about it all night and just couldn’t figure out why the Death Knight was being so cooperative, but it was a good start. She called for Austin, asking him to continue conveying the goodwill of the Royal Family.
Last time, Austin had done a good job, successfully negotiating a cooperation with the Death Knight, who indeed kept his promises.
So useful, so it’s still you!
And thus, this scene unfolded in the study.
Megan established a sound-proof barrier, and two social rejects stared each other down; Austin wanted to convey goodwill on the spot, but Wayne was uncooperative. Life needed a sense of ritual, insisting that no matter what, they had to meet tonight at the Grand Cemetery in the West District.
Why it had to be the Grand Cemetery in the West District, those who understood, knew; not just Austin, but even Megan, who was openly eavesdropping, knew that the little trash can was eyeing the big trash can’s behind.
"Firstly, you are the Death Knight, so there’s no need to wait until tonight to give the thing to you."
Austin said with a dark expression, "Secondly, assuming you are not the Death Knight, as a family head, what’s wrong with delegating a mission to my successor?"
"It’s very wrong. As a Silver Mage, alone and powerless, I am unqualified for such a mission," Wayne said nonchalantly. "Let’s not even mention what the teacher might think, it won’t be easy for you to explain to the Queen either, and it will lead to unnecessary suspicion in the end. Listen to me, just go to the Grand Cemetery in the West District tonight. That’s your mission, as well as your responsibility as a family head."
Austin: (눈_눈)
Too reasonable, he couldn’t refute it.
"The kickbacks from the Death Knight are not so easy to enjoy; if you want to profit off his name, you’d better be ready for him to kick your ass," Wayne said with animated eyebrows, laughing heartily. "Actually, this is quite good, much better than having the warehouse catch fire at the end of the year."
Saying so, he got up and warmed up his limbs, practicing his kicking technique right in front of Austin.
Father hissing, son howling, such joyous fun.
Wayne knew Austin too well; he played the part to perfection, a master of an actor’s self-cultivation, extremely dedicated, knowing full well that he would be on the receiving end of a kick tonight, yet he would still appear on time at the Grand Cemetery in the West District.
That’s professionalism.
"Also, I think the Death Knight finds working with you quite delightful, so you don’t need to have the Queen replace you as the contact person, because the Death Knight, apart from you, doesn’t wish to engage in awkward conversation with anyone else."
"Hee-hee-hee-hee————"
Wayne left with a bright laughter, with Austin in the background bearing the sorrow of a man who just had a son.
That night, at the Grand Cemetery in the West District dreams took flight, as Austin soared in the sky, with Megan running after him.

To prevent any spectators, this act had to be played out.
Don’t ask, just understand that although the Death Knight was cooperating with the Royal Family, he did not like them; the one he kicked was not Austin’s behind, but the Queen’s face.

The time came to February 20th.
There were no devils in Lundan, all was serene and sunny.
At least on the surface, everything seemed peaceful.
Behind the scenes, inspectors from the Papal State had already arrived in Lundan, and this person was an old acquaintance of the Legendary Mage Celeste from the Magic Department, occasionally meeting for a chat.
Celeste, a Liberty Mage, used to be welcoming to all in his earlier years, was proficient in several languages, and had quite the wild connections.
After reaching Legend status, he started plotting his own future, and gradually his mastery of Holy Light Magic deepened, leading the higher-ups of the Magic Department to suspect him of being a double agent.
Since there was no evidence, or perhaps for other reasons, the matter didn’t lead to anything.
On the other hand, the inspector met Princess Elizabeth and she, with her excellent eloquence, managed to talk about everything from world peace to authentic French cuisine, convincing the inspector representing the Holy See.
It was absurd, but it happened; the inspector ignored the evidence he held and left Lundan as if nothing had happened.
During the visit, on behalf of the Papal State, the inspector signed a supplemental agreement with the Windsor Royal Family, prohibiting the Royal Family from dealing with devils, immediately ceasing research projects related to Hell, and granting the Heavenly Father’s Court authority to propagate faith in Windsor.
These were old topics but since it was a written agreement, and paper has the property of being torn, it was hard to come into effect.
The Royal Family had been distancing itself from the Heavenly Father’s Court, yet always maintained contact; Princess Elizabeth was the link between them.
Like hawks versus doves, or left versus right, members of the Royal Family each had their own unique roles and scripts.
Such major concerns were not for Wayne to worry about, nor did Austin have the authority to be involved, they could only deduce roughly what was happening through the details.
The Papal State had direct confrontations with the Royal Family, bypassing the Windsor Magic Department and also the Holy See’s influence in Windsor. The waters were too deep, and none of them were privy to this information.
...
By the Themes River.
After receiving a phone call, Wayne, carrying something, hurried to the agreed location and met the bandit, Schrödinger the Dean.
