Chapter 526: Chapter 229 Candidate Wayne, You Are Not Pure

Gavin stopped mid-sentence, throwing out bait and waiting for Wayne to bite.

The effect was mediocre, Wayne blinked, shaking his head, "No thanks, I’m well aware of my talents, and I don’t qualify to become a God-chosen Knight."

Veronica nodded silently, it’s good that societal trash knows their place.

Not to brag, Veronica would bet her youth on the odds of Wayne becoming a God-chosen Knight being less than one in a million, no, one in ten million.

As long as the Goddess isn’t blind, even if every person on the God-chosen Continent died, it still wouldn’t be Wayne’s turn.

Could the Goddess be blind?

Absolutely impossible!

If the Goddess could be blind, so could she. From now on, bygones be bygones, even if she saw Wayne fooling around with Velia, she’d turn a blind eye.

Laughable, really. To even think of societal trash and a God-chosen Knight in the same breath, more ludicrous than societal trash rolling in the sheets under the moonlight!

Veronica, mindful of Wayne’s pride, merely amused herself inwardly without showing it on her face and quickly stepped beside the Elf, taking a good look.

Just one look.

Her eyes were so dry, she wouldn’t even blink.

So beautiful!

"Young man, don’t underestimate your talent, at your age, you’ve already surpassed ninety-nine percent of your peers..."

Gavin lavished praise before continuing, "Prepare yourself mentally, your journey as a Saint Heir won’t be all smooth sailing. The Church has never had a precedent for a Saint Heir, and personally, I don’t fancy your chances of success."

So quit struggling. Here’s a letter of recommendation, come work for the Naturalist Knights Order!

What’s the point of being a Saint Heir? Real men should strive to be Knights!

Seeing Gavin’s authoritative tone, Wayne asked subconsciously, "May I have the honor to know your name, sir? Are you from the Church headquarters?"

"Gavin Floy, Vice Commander of the Church headquarters’ Naturalist Knights Order."

"..."x2

Indeed a big shot, his rank is already higher than that of a Regional High Priest.

Wayne could never have imagined that a common Holy Maiden candidate assessment could bring a Vice Commander-level big fish to the surface.

As far as he knew, the head of the headquarters’ Naturalist Knight Order was an honorary position, always held by a God-chosen Knight. When the God-chosen Knight didn’t manage affairs, the Vice Commander would lead the pack.

Is the style of the leading brother so sloppy?

Wayne glanced at Gavin, the smell of alcohol, the unkempt beard, tattered armor; nothing seemed befitting of...

Wait a moment, the whole membership of the Naturalist Knights Order consists of Golden Mages; the Vice Commander should be a Legendary Mage, right?

Just waltzing into Windsor, is that really okay?

Wayne knew the perfect word to describe Gavin’s entry – smuggling.

You faith folks, one face in public and another behind the scenes, sign agreements and don’t follow through, come and go as you please, treating the Windsor Federation like what, a bus?

The Queen, a bus driver?

He ranted inwardly, bowing respectfully, "So it is the Commander himself, my apologies."

"It’s Vice Commander."

"Sure, Commander Sir."

"..."

Gavin scratched his head, seeing in Wayne the shadow of the high ranks of the Church, all so shameless.

Bias aside, he first saw Wayne’s talent, and the lad was good-looking, especially after transforming into an Elf, even he felt a little shy in comparison. So while his favorable impression slipped a bit, it was still full marks.

"Young man, I’ve said my piece. Reflect on it. If you fail in the Saint Heir selection, don’t be too disappointed. You can come to me, our Naturalist Knights Order is lacking talents like you," Gavin said, "Your assessment with me is passed. I’m looking forward to your performance in the future."

He glanced at Veronica, an outstanding Holy Maiden candidate.

If nothing goes wrong, she should be a shoo-in.

Gavin, a man of casual character and unconcerned with minor details, swayed his empty flask and left without further word.

Snap!

Wayne high-fived Veronica and headed west eight hundred meters until they found the abandoned church.

Andrew had no idea Gavin had sneaked into the scene; seeing the two emerge from outside the church, he was utterly astonished.

"Oh, it’s nothing, just ran into another investigator. He claims to be Gavin Floy, Vice Commander of the Church headquarters’ Knight Order, and he gave full marks to both me and Veronica," Wayne innocently shared. "The Vice Commander of Church headquarters has a pretty high rank, doesn’t he?"

Andrew remained silent, discreetly increasing the candidate scores to double hundreds—full marks across the board.

As things stood, Wayne dispensed with pretense and pulled out two Philosopher’s Stones from the car, prepared to turn them in on the spot.

Andrew glossed over the issue, pretending not to understand what Wayne was saying, muttering about the stones being unimportant, as if they were just souvenirs, and left with a few NPC compatriots.

"It’s over."

Wayne looked at Veronica, his eyes asking if she was willing to go on a date with him in Winchester.

"Hmph!"

He received a view of the back of her head.

"Fine, back to Lundan we go. Once home, there’s plenty of time."

Lando Manor.

Wayne ended the mission ahead of schedule, informing both Austin and Hefei that a big shot from the Naturalism Church Headquarters had arrived.

A leader of Commander-level strength, a middle-aged loafer uncle style, obviously very powerful.

Austin was lackluster in interest, telling Wayne to keep quiet and not to randomly change size at any place.

Hefei was overjoyed, learning that her student had been invited, with great potential to be a God-chosen Knight candidate, she couldn’t stop jumping and hugging her student.

"Work hard, I’ve never seen a God-chosen Knight before, this task is now yours," Hefei patted Wayne on the shoulder, looking at him more and more fondly, "Worthy of mine, my judgment in eyes is impeccable, a random pick and it’s a God-chosen Knight."

Is there a possibility, you might’ve picked two already?

Too many points of ridicule, Wayne didn’t know where to start complaining. For the sake of the family, he decided to bury the secret deep in his heart.
