Chapter 517: Chapter 226 Philosopher’s Stone
Naturalism Church, Windsor District Headquarters.
Hefei received the headquarters investigation group in the conference room, a team of ten impeccably dressed individuals who spoke and conducted business very officially, clearly veterans of fieldwork years in the making.
The investigation group came for the Holy Maiden candidates, to audit whether the candidates possess the qualifications, scoring them based on cultivation, appearance, moral character, magic talent, and religious devotion among other aspects of their performance.
These ten were the official investigative team on the surface; although the audit was strict, the entire process went by official procedures, confined to office spaces, aware of each major district’s unspoken rules and happy to be a part of them.
In short, they were here to do a job, not to offend anyone. As long as the various districts didn’t overdo it, they usually turned a blind eye.
And by the way, make a little on the side.
Problems that money can solve are not problems at all. Austin provided a friendly sponsorship for several projects, and immediately there were no issues left for the ten-person investigation team.
They meticulously reviewed Wayne and Veronica’s documentation, lavishing high praise on the two rising stars of the Church and giving high recognition to Hefei’s commitment and efforts in cultivating top talents for The Church.
In the documents, Wayne’s full name was Wayne Lando, the heir to the Lando Family. His father was named Austin Lando, who also happened to be a student of the Regional High Priest of Windsor.
Since the Lando Family was one of the Tulip Families in Windsor, wealthy beyond measure and holding significant status in Lundan, Wayne’s status as heir was a bonus point. Additionally, since he was a student of the High Priest, totally one of their own, he was worth cultivating as a priority even if he didn’t become the Saint Heir.
In terms of cultivation, Wayne was a Silver Mage, comfortably passing the qualification threshold;
As for appearance, there was little to be said. Although not possessing the stunning beauty of a prince, with well-proportioned features and a tender complexion, he certainly stood out from the vast majority of pretty-boys;
The subsequent assessments of moral character, magic talent, and religious devotion were all hurdle-free, passed with ease.
Regarding merit points, Wayne served as a Pastor in Jianhe County, diligently fulfilling his duties daily, and even led an expedition to dismantle a Devil’s stronghold, claiming he had rendered great service would be no exaggeration.
Clearly, the dossier was personally crafted by Hefei, who didn’t just spend money and pull strings for a smooth approval, but also lavishly polished Wayne’s personal image.
Although she wouldn’t admit it, firmly believing she simply told the straightforward truth.
As for when Wayne’s father had become Austin, or whether Austin himself agreed, Hefei wasn’t concerned with those details; bonus points must be accrued for her students at all costs.
Thus, in the Naturalism Church’s records, Wayne’s family background became the distinguished Lando Family.
It was the same with Veronica’s dossier; this year, the Windsor District had nominated a pair of siblings for candidacy.
As for whether these siblings would become engaged in the future, and how to explain it if they married, Hefei left that for Austin to figure out with his sharp, trashy brain.
If you can’t explain it, then don’t bother; nobility does have precedents for keeping the bloodline pure with arrangements among siblings.
What outsiders think doesn’t matter, as long as the family themselves are in the know.
In just half a day’s time, Wayne and Veronica’s candidacy reviews went smoothly, earning unanimous praise from the investigation team.
Praise bought with money!
...
In the High Priest’s office, Wayne stood before the floor-to-ceiling windows, marveling at the vast plains and valleys.
This was Wayne’s first visit to the district headquarters, and just by the architecture alone, and the size of the compound, the Naturalism Church far outshone the Moonlight Church.
Understandable, given the Naturalism Church housed a High Priest, while the Moonlight Church had previously only had a Priest. The two weren’t even on the same level.
Not anymore. The Moonlight Church was upgrading across the board. Hefei’s office was large, and so Philomena’s office would be in the future.
Wayne guessed that this space had been originally created by a Golden Mage’s Dark Domain, possibly at an even higher level, constructed personally by the Church headquarters, then transported to Lundan through a special passage. The district did not have to fuss about constructing a new building; simply disguising it as a library would suffice.
With this in mind, he realized that his investment in the library for the Moonlight Church was likely the newest district headquarters of the Moonlight Church.
"This office is really big..."
Wayne looked at the spacious desk, imagining visiting Philomena at the Moonlight Church headquarters and pinning her on the desk.
Just like Philomena’s wild nature, probably not even bothering with a soundproof barrier, just have the twins guard the door and call it done.
"Brilliant, isn’t this a victory for the Naturalism Church!"
Death Church: I’ve won as well.
Dark Church: Me too!
Heavenly Father’s Court: And why not I?
Sun Church: Count it as half a win for me.
Everyone’s winning, while the Moonlight Church loses face-down.
Considering that every action has an equal and opposite reaction, with just one flip, Philomena would have the Moonlight Church winning big time.
Wayne was somewhat tempted by the thought, but alas, he could only fantasize for now; the Moonlight Church library was yet to be built, Philomena did not have such a big desk.
"Wait a minute, it’s not entirely impossible..."
Wayne looked over at Veronica, who was sitting in a chair reading, humming a tune she composed, her legs dangling in the air, swinging back and forth,
Feeling a malicious gaze, Veronica shivered, her glare toward Wayne fierce: "What are you looking at, scum, jerk, perv, I’m warning you, don’t you dare."
Her vocabulary still as limited as ever, Wayne listened, filled with pride.
She was clearly complimenting him!
"Heh heh heh..."
Wayne rubbed his hands together and walked towards Veronica, who quickly held her book to her chest, aware of what the social trash was planning, and hastily said, "Don’t you dare do anything, this is the High Priest’s office. The investigation team for the Holy Maiden candidates are in the conference room next door, there will be trouble."
