Chapter 288: Chapter 149: The Headless Knight’s Retribution_3

Wayne saw the other party’s hideout, contracted his wings and accelerated his descent, snatching the sniper rifle with his tentacle before it could be raised.

"Come to papa!"

After seizing the rifle, Wayne flung the sniper off the vantage point with a tentacle and flew toward where Mona was located, flapping his wings.

There was no need to love the fight, nor the need to fight, as the collapsing ruins would bury everything!

The giant eye and fleshy wings reached the room where Mona lay asleep, and a tentacle shot out, coiling around her rather fleshy waist.

Wayne flapped his wings violently, flying toward the moonlit sky as the mountain collapsed, fractures widening, until where the light was bright, there was no longer the concern of falling rocks from the collapsing mountainside.

The earth shook violently, and a terrifying force rampaged in all directions; the buildings of Giant City fell like dominoes, raising huge clouds of dust and debris.

Roads cracked open with giant fissures, devouring the ruins and creating even more destruction.

The surrounding mountainsides crumbled, forming spectacular mudslide waterfalls that buried the entire site...

A tremendous roar awakened Mona, who weakly opened her eyes to the unsettling sensation of weightlessness and instinctively looked up.

A huge eyeball, unforgettable at a glance, the pale moonlight casting a dim glow on the triad of fleshy wings, scattering droplets of light as they fluttered.

"Angel..."

Murmuring, Mona closed her eyes, exhausted. Though nothing went according to plan, the outcome was right—she had completed her mission and found the Angel who had descended to earth.

After the earthquake had stopped, Wayne landed with Mona at the edge of a mountain cliff.

The center of Elemental Mountain collapsed, the surrounding mountain higher by a section, resembling a large pot filled with chaotic ruins.

Wayne’s body writhed, returning to its original form. The briefcase fell to the ground, and he glanced at it but ignored it, closing his eyes to sense for any surviving skeletons below.

It was too large an area to confirm, so he tried to grab Shadowmare.

He succeeded!

"Master, are you alright?"

Yuliya, along with Shadowmare, appeared concerned upon seeing that Wayne was unharmed, except for his lack of clothing, and then she relaxed.

Wayne kicked the briefcase at his feet, and Yuliya, understanding his intent, opened a portal and sent it away.

It wasn’t far, still within Silent Ridge.

Wayne grasped Shadowmare with both hands, the hilt’s Ruby emitting light as the decaying power of Death accelerated the passage of time, reducing all the bones in the ruins to mud.

All evidence was eradicated.

"This one’s definitely secure!"

Having dealt with these matters, Wayne sheathed the sword and bid Yuliya leave first, sitting exhaustedly on Mona’s legs.

After resting for a moment, Wayne hoisted Mona onto his shoulder and staggered toward the mining area.

He needed to find his clothes quickly, otherwise, his imposing presence would find no companions.

Contrary to Wayne’s expectations, the collapsed entrance of the mine seemed to have been the scene of a fierce battle, with craters and corpses everywhere.

Recognizing the miners’ attire, it was clear they were members of the Death Church guarding the entrance.

Wayne searched around and quickly found Kel slumped behind a large tree. After a tough battle that had taken out a Silver Mage of the Death Church, he was utterly exhausted.

Hearing a noise, Kel’s eyes opened to the sight of Wayne’s indecent ╰ひ╯ and Mona being carried on his shoulder, snarkily asking, "What happened, was your battle that fierce?"

"Yeah, too many people, couldn’t have managed without taking off the clothes."

"So, you won?" Kel asked, incredulously.

"How could I? They went mad, turned on each other..."

Wayne explained the sequence of events—the Death Church had too many people, so he dared not fight and steered clear with Mona. Just as he was about to make a noble sacrifice, the enemies turned crazily on one another, and everyone died.

The answer was so magically perfect, Kel couldn’t find any fault with it and didn’t believe Wayne could defeat so many mages. Changing the subject, he asked, "What about the slab?"

"Didn’t see the slab, must be buried under Elemental Mountain."

Wayne sighed in resignation and patted his behind, "If it weren’t for their numbers and the time crunch, and Mona constantly slowing me down, I definitely could have gotten the slab. This was a wasted trip; I deserve a raise!"
