Chapter 287: Chapter 149: The Revenge of the Headless Knight_2
He was willing to help, but his strength did not permit it. Now, his most powerful force was the Death Knight Vest System, and since even the genuine article had become a prisoner, what could an imitation do?
"Roar, roar, roar————"
The Headless Knight roared furiously, controlling the gray mist to billow toward Wayne. Both were connected with Death, yet separated by a vast sea; the thoughts residing on the Sealing Book could not touch Wayne.
Moreover, the power he wielded had been tasted by The Book of Greed.
"Kill you! Kill you..."
"Kill you!!"
The gray mist repeatedly failed to break through, dividing into five parts, four of which flowed into the skeletons of the Skeleton Knights and Sebastian, while the last blasted Yuliya, striking open a portal and banishing him far away.
"Master..."
The portal closed, and Yuliya’s voice abruptly ended.
Wayne, shocked, swung his hand to grasp at the void but could not pull out Shadowmare. A powerful thought disrupted from across the space; amidst the violent collision, he felt as if struck by a heavy blow, dizzy and nearly losing control, almost returning from his Immortal Body state.
Wayne staggered on the spot, sensing an imminent crisis, and without thinking, he performed a desperate somersault on the ground and hugged his briefcase as if it were a shield.
With a loud bang, a Skeleton Knight holding a sniper rifle retreated while fighting, melting into the darkness seeking higher ground.
Surrounding him, the Skeleton Soldiers charged forward, unfazed by falling boulders, with Oscar and Mana leading the front.
Rat-tat-tat————
The two Skeleton Knights pulled the trigger; the firepower of their machine guns forced Wayne to turn and flee. Caught in a hail of bullets, he had no time for so-called ’Z-shaped’ evasive maneuvers, racing at top speed to break through the blockade and head west.
Bang!
A sniper bullet came, but Wayne, with prior warning, leaped and crashed to the ground.
Just then, the earth roared and trembled, and a huge hand bone, over ten meters long, drilled up from underground.
Through the ravages of time, the Giant’s bones had lost their golden hue, turning into the dull twilight color they were now. Its towering stature was awe-inspiring, with two deep, pitch-black eye sockets that seemed to connect to an endless void, emanating an indescribable fear.
Sebastian!
The Golden Mage was quick and steady in delivering meals, always maintaining a steady mood without tears or fuss, and only after being resurrected by the Headless Knight did he have the chance to display his profound knowledge of Death Magic.
He was not just any Skeleton Soldier; he was a Skeleton Mage, summoning six Giant Skeletons buried deep underground in one breath.
Skeleton Knights, Skeleton Mage, Giant Skeletons, Skeleton Soldier Legion — Wayne was cornered, facing enemies from all sides, and there was also a sniper and heavy firepower opposite him.
Tinkling sounds rang out as a metal ball was launched from afar, rolling close to Wayne.
Boom!!
Orange flames burst forth, the metal shell shattered, with a strong blastwave hurtling in all directions.
Wayne crossed his arms in front of his chest; his overalls tore to shreds, pierced by several nail-sized metal fragments.
No blood flowed, and his pale flesh writhed, his body swelling and stretching and his features blurring.
At the chest cavity, the flesh split vertically, and an enormous eyeball suddenly opened.
With a bang, a sniper bullet sped toward him and struck his boneless body, leaving a large hole.
The foam writhed, leaving not a scar behind.
Wayne tossed the briefcase above his head; a tentacle emerged from behind his back, catching the case steadily. The Great Eyeball glanced around before stooping to break through westward.
The two Skeleton machine gunners crisscrossed their fire, with high-temperature bullets streaking through the air and forming two red lines, tightly latching onto Wayne’s trail.
Wayne, heedless of danger, reached the front of the Skeleton troops and leapt into the air, avoiding the Giant Skeleton’s bone palm crashing from above.
The crossfire followed close, shattering seven or eight Skeleton Soldiers to pieces and deflecting off the Giant Skeleton as if the bullets had hit steel.
The Giant Skeleton, who knew how many years had been buried underground, was already impervious to machine gun fire without magical forging. One can only imagine how terrifying its strength was in life.
Boom!
Boulders fell in front of him, crushing the Giant Skeletons and giving Wayne just enough space. Using Supernatural Sensing, he moved swiftly through the collapsing ruins, every dodge executed with ease.
Behind him, the Skeleton Soldiers were too slow in pursuing; even the two elite troops, Oscar and Mana, were left far behind.
The Skeleton Mage staggered forward, raising his Walking Stick, with light spreading from a Magic Array beneath his feet, seemingly ready to execute a large-scale offensive spell.
Boom!
Boulders crashed down, and the Skeleton Mage fell silent, the light of the Magic Array scattering, followed by a puff of black smoke as it exploded into the air.
A few Giant Skeletons staggered and collapsed, scattering their bones on the ground.
Among the pursuers, only two Skeleton Knights could keep up with Wayne, having depleted their bullets, they now galloped and hurled grenades at him.
Wayne continued amidst roaring explosions, and from a distance, he saw the house where Mona was hidden and abruptly stopped in his tracks.
A sniper bullet flew past in front of him, grazing his head and carrying away a patch of foam.
You are the most dangerous one!
The Great Eyeball swiveled, focusing on the high point from where the bullet had come.
Wayne unfolded wings from his back, his white limbs merging into his torso, and six fleshy wings flapped, leveraging the thin Wind Element to soar up into the sky.
In the distance, a Great Eyeball with three pairs of fleshy wings and tentacles wriggling with gray mist at its back looked monstrous.
That’s so eerie!
Wayne, flying in the air, dodged the falling boulders. His speed was not fast, and the Skeleton Knight from the high point had already vanished into darkness.
Unfortunately, for such a flamboyant Knight, no matter how deep he hides, he’s like a firefly in the dark, standing out brilliantly.
