Chapter 169: Chapter 106: Promotion?_2
Wayne raised an eyebrow, the pace of the game on this side was moving too fast, the girl was about to throw a fastball.
Not good, needed to slow things down.
Wayne pondered for a moment, staring into Vivi’s eyes, "Why just Kell Polo and Veronica? I want to add you to the list, is that okay?"
"Mm."
Vivi lowered her head, not daring to meet his gaze, her heart pounding nervously.
"I choose Kell Polo."
"???"
A string of question marks floated above Vivi’s head as she suddenly looked up, "Then why add me to it?"
"Veronica isn’t as good as Kell Polo because she rarely wears dresses; without dresses, there are no stockings. It’s not her fault; I don’t want her to be at the bottom," Wayne analyzed with reason.
"..."
Vivi: (눈‸눈)
The twist came too suddenly, the little deer was directly hit and killed.
Vivi let go of Wayne’s hand and walked ahead, huffy, but not too fast, waiting for Wayne to come over and comfort her.
However, that didn’t happen.
————
On the second floor of the Wayne Detective Agency.
Vivi sat on the couch with her arms crossed, grumbling and mumbling under her breath.
Wayne made himself a cup of coffee and stood at the window, quietly observing the grand Dawn Detective Agency across the street.
Freebies smell too tempting; he definitely couldn’t compete.
Luckily, it was not a big problem, as the two detective agencies targeted different markets. Dawn Detective Agency was known for its public outcry approach, while the Wayne Detective Agency specialized in trimming the leeks of the wealthy; there was no competition between the two.
Halfway through his coffee, Veronica arrived uninvited, holding several letters in her hand.
The letters were left in the mailbox of the detective agency; Wayne had been too preoccupied watching Vivi bouncing around as they went upstairs and had forgotten to check the mailbox.
Veronica handed over the letters to Wayne, and upon seeing Vivi sulking on the couch, she exclaimed in disbelief. In her memory, the optimistic and cheerful Vivi was always giggling and rarely unhappy.
What’s wrong, attacked by a pervert at night?
Veronica approached, and within a few words, she was riled up by Vivi, who swiftly pinned her down on the couch.
Wayne was used to their daily interactions.
He watched the two best friends playing and sticking together on the couch while he opened the envelopes, looking through them one by one.
The first was a job application, from detective Wesley whom Wayne had met in Enrold Town.
The detective circle was neither big nor small. Having received the message, Wesley had come as promised to apply for a job, leaving behind his business card.
The second letter was from an acquaintance, Kell Polo, who had obtained the Wayne Detective Agency’s address from the White Glove Association and left a business card seeking to arrange a meal.
Wayne had a favorable impression of these two detectives. The former had excellent operational capabilities and was a courageous investigator; recruiting him to the agency would boost its image.
The latter might be whimsical, but his character posed no problems, especially his aesthetics, which Wayne greatly appreciated. He would have no objections to having him as a friend, even a close one.
The third letter was from the White Glove Association.
Wayne had completed the commission on Dragonheart Island, uncovered the whole story, and the White Glove Association had mailed the final payment.
Fifty thousand Xianling.
"The client is dead, where is the final payment from? The White Glove Association is playing the whole act. Knowing it was an awkward show, they still performed it; surely not easy to deal with."
Wayne took the check and began scanning through the letters.
[Dear Detective Wayne, congratulations on passing the assessment test and activating your association membership level]
[Due to unforeseen events on Dragonheart Island, the association has adjusted the case difficulty, upgrading your membership level to blue]
[Your current membership level comes with many perks, waiver of membership fees, internal detective publications...]
The letter was long, containing much information, such as explanations for membership levels.
White, yellow, green, blue, purple, black—membership levels ranged from light to dark in color. White stood for pending activation, which the association could revoke at any time, while black was the highest level, representing the pinnacle of the White Glove Association’s detective prowess.
"It’s funny that the highest detective level in the White Glove Association is black when the yellow rank comes before it. I almost thought this was equipment leveling."
Wayne sorted out the White Glove Association’s letter and opened the remaining envelopes, which contained subscription magazines, follow-up surveys, and promotional letters—none of particular importance.
About the White Glove Association, Wayne knew little. He was aware that it was an association that dominated the Lundan detective industry with powerful members, including church mages like Kell Polo.
Low-level detectives dealt with simple cases, and since the clients were either wealthy or noble, they usually earned a substantial fee; even if they opened for business for three years, it was a premium association that was hard to come by even on your knees.
According to Wayne’s analysis, high-level detectives received mysterious commissions and handled extremely complex cases, involving a scope and level of individuals beyond what an ordinary detective could imagine.
Following this line of thought, the association’s number one wasn’t on the surface Austin, but rather the Tulip Family or the Windsor Royal Family behind the Tulip Family.
"The Royal Family has quite the reach, controlling the big picture from all sides to the extent that The Church must abide by the rules of various industries if it wants to develop here..."
Wayne murmured to himself as he contacted Wesley and Kell Polo in turn using the business cards.
The former could join the detective agency, perhaps introducing a few reliable colleagues as well. Wayne Detective Agency was set to officially open on September 1st.
The latter...
No one answered the phone; possibly still asleep from overworking the night before.
"Wayne, mother wants you home for dinner tonight; there’s something she needs to talk to you about," Veronica said, interrupting her tussle with Vivi and cheering up her gloomy best friend with her fists.
"What’s it about?"
————
"About your church position."
