Chapter 1297: Chapter 436: During an Avalanche, No Single Snowflake Feels Responsible
The banquet hall.
Crystal chandeliers shimmered.
The enormous crystal chandelier bloomed like scattered stars. On the surrounding walls hung portraits of successive Royal Family members, each illuminated by the light, their faces solemn, their gazes profound, as if guarding this land.
The hall was primarily decorated in white and gold; the floor was covered with a thick red carpet, intricately patterned and exquisitely woven with gold and silver threads, symbolizing the dignity and glory of the Windsor Royal Family.
Although it was called a banquet hall, it seemed there wouldn’t be food tonight. At the center of the hall stood a long conference table.
On either side of the table, a single chair was placed respectively.
This wasn’t a banquet but a negotiation. The two chairs respectively symbolized the Windsor Family and the Lando Family, while the other attendees were witnesses.
Members of the Tulip Family were scattered on either side of the long table, whispering amongst themselves as they eyed the two chairs.
"What’s going on? Does the Queen think she’s got it this time?"
"The Queen initiated this. She wouldn’t stir up such a big event unless she had full confidence."
"The Lando Family isn’t to be trifled with. They have several Church factions backing them. Last time the envoy from the Papal State arrived, they didn’t even look at the Queen, showering Austin with praise and barely stopping short of the Pope himself placing a crown on Austin’s head."
"Exactly. What kind of confidence could the Queen have? The only thing she’s confident in is getting a grip on Austin."
"Makes sense!"x2
"That being said, calling everyone together like this—she’s not proposing to Austin. She must’ve found some formidable backer."
"The Church stands with the Lando Family. Who could the Queen turn to—perhaps the Great Demon King of Hell?"
"Makes sense!"x2
"These details aren’t important. What matters is our stance. Calling us here is about setting a position. Who do you plan to side with tonight?"
"That’s a given. The Tulip Family is forever loyal to the King!"
"Makes sense!"x2
Damn it, I’ve endured enough of this!
Felster glared furiously, trying to see which fool dared steal his lines.
What kind of caliber is this? Saying "Makes sense" like Lord Pride, yet completely unaware of their own status—utterly self-unaware.
In his sight, Bedford glared back angrily.
"..."x2
Turns out it was me. Well, never mind then.
Just kidding!
Even I won’t accept this!
Felster harshly reprimanded the prideful thoughts hidden within Bedford, forbidding himself from stealing his own lines. The latter refused to comply, arguing that the divided prideful mindset was an independent Pride in its own right, and bowing down was impossible.
The two stared daggers at each other.
At that moment, the crowd stirred; Queen Sophia appeared.
The Queen made a grand entrance, adorned in an evening gown dominated by sapphire hues, the hem flowing lightly and gracefully. With each stride, the fabric swayed subtly, exuding the dignified charm of a mature and mesmerizing woman.
Sophia’s figure and beauty needed no further elaboration. The elegant evening gown highlighted her luxurious and refined aura; her every step deliberate, her every action exuding regal presence and the authority of a Superior, commanding admiration effortlessly.
Unfortunately, Sophia was not the focus—her beauty only stirred the envy and resentment of the Insectoids toward Austin.
Beside Sophia were two men and a woman—the men tall, the woman strikingly handsome, all belonging to the pinnacle of physical allure. Their clothing was unified in style: the Heavenly Father’s Court’s white clergy uniforms.
Judging by Sophia’s deferential demeanor, she appeared more like a guiding attendant than the mistress of Buckingham Palace.
The most astonishing moment followed. The Queen stood behind the seat of honor but didn’t take her seat. Instead, one of the men sat down calmly, his expression indifferent, as if he naturally belonged there.
Members of the Tulip Family whispered amongst themselves, curious about the man’s identity.
Even during the Papal State’s peak, the Pope himself would never make a monarch stand like a servant. There would always be a chair symbolizing divine-appointed royal authority.
"Judging by the clothing, he’s likely from the Papal State."
"Has the Papal State started supporting the Queen?"
"That doesn’t make sense. The Papal State is far from Windsor; there’s no reason for them to antagonize the Lando Family over the declining Windsor Family."
"Let’s wait and see."
"Makes sense!"
Felster’s lines stayed uncontested this time. After Uriel took the seat, Bedford hurried over with a quick trot.
His expression glowed with pride, as if saying, "This distinguished gentleman recognizes me."
Felster gritted his teeth, unable to unleash his frustrations, and could only vent by slapping his own thigh.
"Bedford, the Lando Family hasn’t arrived yet?" Uriel frowned slightly, glancing at the empty chair opposite.
He had intentionally arrived ten minutes late to ensure he took the final entrance, only for Hexuno to have an even greater air of importance.
After some thought, he concluded Hexuno wasn’t the type. It must’ve been Wayne using flowery words to deceive Hexuno.
Absurd!
The Archangel of the Heavenly Kingdom, fooled and led astray by a human—how outrageous!
Was Hexuno too sheltered in Heaven, repressing herself for too long? So now, in the Mortal World, she’s letting loose; this whole thing reeked of an angel dabbling in impurity.
Uriel refused to believe such a ludicrous speculation. However, the facts stared him in the face, forcing him to reluctantly admit them.
Otherwise, there was no explanation!
"Pedro, the Lando Family hasn’t arrived yet."
Bedford furrowed his brows deeply, loyalty shining in his tone as he said, "I don’t mean to sow discord, purposely stirring up conflict, but their behavior is beyond outrageous, while your benevolence is simply too kind."
Seeing Uriel remain silent, Bedford deliberated further discord: "Benevolence is a virtue; humans should be benevolent. But benevolence doesn’t mean weakness. The Lando Family views your benevolence as weakness, seizing the opportunity to humiliate, clearly provoking you—and in front of so many witnesses, blatantly disregarding..."
