Chapter 1270: Chapter 429: Austin: Master Wayne_2

Chris is getting more and more overboard. Just who’s running the harem here? We need to make it clear!

...

Study Room.

Megan set up a soundproof barrier.

A servant escorted Isabella away; she’s now in the dining room engaged in an intense battle with high-end ingredients.

Austin glanced at Wayne sitting on the sofa across from him, then looked at Mona standing emotionlessly behind Wayne. It felt like staring into a mirror, utterly uncomfortable.

He toyed with the Ancient Silver Coin in his hand, snapped his fingers, and only when Megan was standing behind him did he feel slightly better.

Wayne noticed and took out an Ancient Silver Coin to fiddle with as well.

No matter what, he mustn’t lose to this societal trash in terms of presence! x2

"Strange. Why’d you bring Mona today?" Austin frowned, sensing something amiss.

"I brought her to settle the family assets. After all, I’m the head of the family now, and the accounts can’t be left in disarray. I need to know how much property I own," Wayne replied with a smile.

Austin frowned again.

"What? Don’t tell me you forgot. We made a bet before, remember? If that supposedly ’impenetrable’ defense line fell, I’d become the head of the family," Wayne chuckled.

The defense had already crumbled, surrounded and defeated from the rear before it could even serve its purpose.

Austin’s face darkened. "That’s not good news—and now isn’t the time to discuss this."

"What, you trying to renege on the bet?"

"What, you trying to take responsibility?"

Austin sneered, "You can be the family head; I don’t object. But you need to think carefully. Being the Lando family’s leader is no easy feat—it means daily commuting to the Magical Department Headquarters, handling both domestic and international affairs, signing endless documents, overtime upon overtime..."

"Do you have enough time for that?"

"..."

Wayne: (一`´一)

"Say something!"

"I really don’t have the time to deal with the Queen. But as the head of the family, I can delegate you to deal with her. What’s there for me to be afraid of?"

"A bet is a bet. From now on, I call the shots in this house," Wayne smirked.

"Boring..."

Austin’s face stretched long. He knew Wayne didn’t like politics and clung to power derived from physical strength, rather than from authority itself.

Take clearing the royal entourage as an example—Wayne’s goal had never been to overthrow the King and crown himself. He simply grew stronger because he didn’t want to be bossed around by the Royal Family or lumped together with Insectoids.

It was classic ’fist power produces authority’: using hard-earned strength to claim an equivalent status and position.

Once he obtained his position, he’d throw the responsibility to someone he trusted, then go back to pursuing fist power.

Likewise, Wayne wasn’t craving the actual authority of being family head—he only desired the title, and conveniently...

Messing with the subordinates.

Who the subordinates were, Austin didn’t want to answer. Just imagining Wayne lording over him was as excruciating as gripping the Twilight Deadlock itself.

Wayne becoming family head wouldn’t change what they used to do—it only meant Austin’s future responsibilities would turn into Wayne’s orders.

Now that was intolerable!

Austin was ready to renege, refusing to admit defeat. Wayne wasn’t in a hurry. He toyed with the Ancient Silver Coin and said, "This time in Paris was quite fruitful. I gained lots of critical intelligence, including the story behind your coin and the origins of Monica."

"..." x2

"Well, go on then!"

"Ah, youth. Forgetfulness must come along with it. Now I’ve completely blanked on where I should start. What’s to be done?"

Wayne sighed dramatically. "Oh, my poor memory. If someone called me ’Family Head’ or ’Master Wayne,’ perhaps I’d suddenly remember."

So cheeky, so deserving of a good punch.

If it were anyone else, Austin would already have had Megan deal with them.

But not Wayne—besides Megan not being able to beat him, even if she could, Megan would merely play deaf and ignore him as always.

Austin scanned the room: the Madam, the daughter, the Butler—all of them stood vaguely on Wayne’s side, ready to raise their hands in support of Wayne becoming family head.

"Master Wayne!" Megan spoke up.

The Butler kindly mediated, but Austin wasn’t pleased, fully aware of Megan’s ulterior motive.

Borrowing Wayne’s authority for her own advantage!

"Megan, you’ve worked hard all these years. From now on, Philark will take over your responsibilities in managing Lando Manor. Your task will be to personally serve the old master’s daily needs—24/7, hands-on service. Got it?" Wayne said cheerfully.

"Understood," Megan replied calmly.

"I know it’s unfair to you. After all, the old master doesn’t hold himself like a proper human being. But here’s a private task for you—I believe you understand what I mean. In the coming evenings, I’ll keep the Twilight Deadlock sealed; the target won’t stand a chance against you," Wayne said, glancing at Austin with a sly smile.

Austin frowned deeply. He couldn’t tell if Wayne was serious, nor could he predict Megan’s potential recklessness—all of which left him unsettled.

"Understood. I’ll do whatever it takes to fulfill this mission!" Megan replied expressionlessly.

"You two better not cause trouble. If chaos ensues, Slyphy will definitely kill me," Austin warned with a dark expression.

"It’s not like you’d die anyway..."

Wayne muttered under his breath as he regrettably cast a glance at Megan. Mentioning Slyphy left him with no options.

Megan stayed silent but shot Wayne a grateful look. The young master had already helped her a great deal; she could wait a little longer.

"Someone’s already called you Master Wayne. Now spill—the Ancient Silver Coin and Monica—what’s the deal?" Austin seized the chance to shift topics.

"So you admit I’m the family head now?"

"Dream on. I’d rather die!"

Austin rejected outright. A family head’s every word and action carried responsibility, yet Wayne wanted to hog the position without pulling his weight, even planning to boss him around. As if!

"Empty promises, zero credibility—you capitalists even outdo the Devil in treachery," Wayne muttered bitterly.
