Chapter 1266: Chapter 428 Above the Demigod, a Swap for One; Below the Demigod, I Am Invincible_2

The door swung open, and Wayne stepped out, brimming with energy. After an hour of rest, he felt ready to face devils all day long.

Even Archangels were fair game; he wasn’t picky.

Secretary Mona adjusted her glasses and followed behind him, spotting Cote sneakily poking her head around the corner. Internally, Mona cursed this old perv. The Holy Maiden of the Sun Church seemed overly curious, using the pretense of a Divine Decree to engage in shady business.

Wayne walked up to his desk, glanced at the three sprawled figures on the table, then at Lust lounging in the chair. With a wave of his hand, he instructed Mona and Cote to haul everyone into the inner room.

The bed in there was big enough to fit four people, no problem. Plus, having more companions was an advantage—less chance of waking up disoriented and failing to find the door.

Wayne settled into his still-warm executive chair, propped his legs on the desk, and noticed Cote hesitating, wanting to speak but not. Teasingly, he asked, "What is it? Still thinking about your Divine Decree?"

To be honest, Wayne had a favorable impression of the Sun Church. Among its members he’d dealt with, aside from the hopelessly corrupt local High Priest Uri, the rest were cheerful and kind-hearted.

By comparison, the Moonlight Church had mixed characters, and the Naturalism Church was downright disgraceful.

Cote’s face flushed, and she stammered, "Wayne, you’ve misunderstood. As for the Divine Decree, just handle it however you think best. I’m not in a rush at all."

Mona rolled her eyes and started massaging Wayne’s shoulders from behind.

Wayne tilted his head back, finding a comfortable position for his spine to lean against. "Since you’re not in a rush, I’m not in a rush either. If there’s nothing else, why don’t you head inside and rest? You must be exhausted after a day’s work."

"Not at all! I’m full of energy and not tired one bit."

Cote emphasized her stamina. As the Holy Maiden of the Sun Church, she boasted longevity and resilience far superior to the fragile Holy Maiden of the Moonlight Church, Guinevere.

Honestly, she wasn’t wrong!

Wayne thought about his own lineup: Chris was utterly unreliable, Viley was brimming with constant intensity, and neither of them was remotely in the same league.

"So what exactly is it that you’re muttering about?"

"I wanted to ask, Mister Wayne, about your upcoming schedule. Have you considered visiting the Sun Church headquarters in Greece?" Cote asked, her face full of anticipation.

If they were on her turf, she’d have full control. Completing the Divine Decree would be a piece of cake.

"The Sun Church headquarters..."

Wayne’s eyes gleamed. If his memory served him, both the Sun and Moonlight Church headquarters were based in Greece, as neighbors. A single trip would allow him to use his God-chosen Knight status to swipe two Philosopher’s Stones for free.

What a golden opportunity!

He had to go!

"I do want to visit, but Greece is quite far, and I’m not currently in the mood for a sightseeing trip." Wayne shook his head regretfully.

"Mister Wayne, you’re the Sun Knight, the Goddess’s chosen one walking in the mortal world. You can’t just wander around aimlessly; you need to check in at home occasionally," Cote urged.

You really don’t get it, do you?

Cote was too straightforward to grasp negotiation tactics—or perhaps she understood but didn’t overthink it because Wayne was an ally.

Seeing no point in beating around the bush, Wayne stopped holding back. He rubbed his fingertips together and said, "Cote, if you want me to visit the Sun Church headquarters, no problem. But let’s talk about appearance fees. I’m very busy, no time for free performances."

"Wait, what? You’re the Sun Knight!"

"So what if I’m the Sun Knight? Does being the Sun Knight mean I can’t embezzle church funds?" Wayne widened his eyes in mock disbelief.

Don’t ask; if you do, the answer is that he’s a true Lundan native sporting the Union Jack. Such fine traditions couldn’t die out on his watch.

Cote rolled her eyes, opened her personal space with a gesture, and placed several treasures onto the desk.

Most were magic tools, but one vibrant red stone caused Wayne’s expression to freeze in confusion. Speechless, he said, "Wait, isn’t this a Philosopher’s Stone? How come the Church headquarters’ key is with you?"

"Why *wouldn’t* it be with me?" Cote replied, baffled.

"As far as I know, this thing is usually kept on the Pope, who takes personal responsibility for safeguarding it," Wayne admitted awkwardly. With someone as carefree as Cote, extra precautions were absolutely necessary.

Her boundless energy and carefree nature meant she could scam him not once, but nine times in a single night without stopping.

"That’s how other churches operate. Our Sun Church underwent a reform... Same with the Moon Church. The Holy Maiden wields more power than the Pope, while the Pope focuses solely on administration. The strongest combat force is the God-chosen Knight, followed by the Holy Maiden," Cote explained.

She elaborated on the unique dynamics within the Sun and Moon Churches.

The reasoning traced back to Cote and Guinevere’s outstanding talents. Both were capable of perfect divine possessions, and when pushing their limits, they could even take down a demigod or two. The Pope’s combat power was laughable in comparison.

Against opponents above demigod level, they could trade life for life. Against anyone below demigod, they were absolutely invincible!

The Magic Realm was a pragmatic world where strength equaled power. With Cote and Guinevere’s overwhelming abilities and their exclusive privilege to interpret Divine Decrees, the Church keys naturally ended up in their hands.

Brilliant!

Wayne grasped the Philosopher’s Stone and, with a wolfish howl for comedic effect, acquired the knowledge he desired.

"Mona, wake up the Holy Maiden Guinevere in the inner room. She’s not an eighteen-year-old girl anymore; how could she sleep like that at her age?" Wayne snapped his fingers, instructing Mona to go shake her awake.

Cote, seeing Wayne’s empty head resting unbothered, patted her chest and declared herself up for the task as well.

Wayne ignored her. Knowing when to quit was his motto; he didn’t plan to expand his inner circle any further. Facing Cote’s sunshine radiance, he could only promise, "Next time, for sure."

Guinevere woke up groggily, yawning as she approached the desk. Upon hearing Wayne wanted to borrow the Philosopher’s Stone for a look, she immediately shot Cote a glare.

She didn’t need to guess—it was obvious Cote intended to lure Wayne to the Church headquarters for chaos, while Wayne schemed to extort benefits. No upfront payment, no deal.
