Chapter 103: Chapter 80 - It’s Never Wrong to Have More Faith in God

Wayne’s fingers grasped the air, mimicking the action of drawing a sword.

A dense aura of death spread out, and the grey mist washed away the foamy waves that surrounded him from all sides. It was an attribute restrain, making it twice as effective to erase the foam created by Life Magic.

Wayne: (-`´-)

What’s going on, I haven’t drawn my sword yet?

Has my swordsmanship become this accurate?

A man in a grease-stained white coat emerged from the void. Plank grasped the Pendant of Death in his hand, and the grey mist swirled around him, condensing into a ghastly white skeleton’s head above him.

Gods are not tools. Chaotic faith comes at a price. The hand holding the pendant turned into bone, and a heavy pallor of death shrouded his face.

Wayne was about to be dumbfounded. His vest system switch had been interrupted twice in a row, and he couldn’t help but suspect that Plank did it on purpose.

It was also fortunate that Plank acted quickly. If he had been even a second slower getting to the scene, Wayne would have drawn the Shadowmare, and his Death Knight vest would have been exposed, which would have been a real headache.

"I told you, with me here today, no one would be able to harm you," Plank said to Wayne with a grin, never missing a chance to curry favor. He turned to Sidney, who had been infested by the Void Lord, shook his head in self-reproach: "Sidney, I’m late, but rest assured, you have a long life ahead, and I will cure you no matter what."

"Damn bastard!!"

The Void Lord cursed loudly, blaming Sidney for his incompetence and Plank for meddling. If he had been just a little quicker, just a second more, he would have caught Wayne.

"Marshall, you may go. I have destroyed most of your thought processes; you cannot be my opponent. Return to the void, for that is where your grave lies."

Magic Tools orbited around Plank, one hand bone and the other Holy Light. He wielded two vastly different styles of faith with ease, suppressing the humanoid Tentacle Monster into a puddle of muck.

"I’m not going anywhere. I won’t leave no matter what today!"

The Void Lord screeched viciously as the foam spread out like a cascade, the swelling flood hammering the deathly grey mist, attempting to drown it in a kamikaze assault.

Plank was startled and immediately spread out the Life Force Field to defend, stepping in front of Wayne just in time.

"This guy’s insane, bringing all of his thoughts to the God-chosen Continent..."

Plank muttered to himself, shocked as he looked at Wayne’s innocent face, trying his best to imagine the latter’s value, yet still underestimating it.

"Why does the Void Lord keep chasing after you, sparing no expense?"

"Uh..."

Wayne scratched his head: "Maybe it’s because I helped eradicate the Earth Core Cult, and he bears a grudge, determined to kill me. If not for that reason..."

"It might also be because of the high sunk cost. In order not to let his initial investment go to waste, he’s staking everything to turn the tables."

Wayne spoke of the various possibilities, implying that Plank had the wrong guy. He, an apprentice Mage, had no idea what was going through the mind of an Evil God.

That was right.

Plank pushed aside his doubts, as it wasn’t time to ponder these things. The full form of the Void Lord had descended; although it wasn’t as rational or wise as in its heyday, the accumulation of studying the void day by day had made its crazed thoughts still incredibly powerful.

Plank weighed the situation, today either the Void Lord would die, or he would be no more.

To protect Lundan Town above, he expanded the Life Force Field with all his might, pulling the Void Lord into endless darkness, to prevent the strong enemy from having any follow-up moves. He left a Blacklight Ring to protect Wayne.

The ring hovered in mid-air, dropping a curtain of darkness, isolating Wayne from his surroundings.

The Blacklight Ring signified the faith of the Dark Goddess; when used for defense, it could silence most magic, rendering it ineffective. Its uses were many, and how to use it depended on the owner’s thoughts.

Like the Shadowmare, it was a rare Magic Tool. Considering Plank’s status as a Legendary Mage, calling it a legendary tool was not an overstatement.

But while the upper limit of the Blacklight Ring was at legend, that of the Shadowmare was hard to say.

Wayne, sheltered beneath the ring’s protection, was still upset over the failed transformation. A vest system was just a vest system; it wasn’t convenient during crucial moments.

Wayne was curious as to how Plank got his hands on so many faith-based tools, and why each one was so powerful.

"Could he also be cheating?"

He murmured to himself, looking at the ring above his head, eager to try it on his finger.

Just like when he lusted after the Four Elements, he had ideas but didn’t act on them.

Besides, compared to the Blacklight Ring, he was more envious that Plank could jump back and forth between complex faiths. Plank’s success was like the dawn’s early light dispelling the darkness, opening a door before him.

There’s no use beating around the bush, Wayne wanted to take that path; he wanted to embrace the long legs of all the Goddesses.

After about half an hour, two figures appeared in the sewer. Plank, with a bloody beard, sat cross-legged on the ground, panting like a dog.

Opposite him was the Tentacle Monster, resembling a pile of mud, the Void Lord attempting to reconstruct its form. Because of the severe damage to its thoughts, each attempt ended in failure.

Wayne understood. Both were badly injured, and the Void Lord was barely clinging to life; rounding off, Plank had won.

Ding-ding dang-dang!

An array of ordinary items clattered to the ground. Plank, sitting cross-legged, resembled a street vendor with a mess of miscellaneous items laid out before him.

The Blacklight Ring above Wayne’s head also fell down.

Breathing heavily, Plank grabbed Wayne’s trouser leg: "Quick, quick, tell me, which deity do you worship? I’ll give you the casting tools, and you finish off the Void Lord."

After speaking, he let out a wry smile, having not expected the Void Lord to be so mad, fighting to the death just to drag him down too.
