Mythical Monster Evolution -
Chapter 52: Three Tries
Chapter 52: Three Tries
Kai felt the small sphere in the middle of his chest, brimming with energy. It was a beautiful blue color that could light up an entire city if it really wanted.
It was the first time Kai had ever spent time observing what was really inside himself.
He had done it once in the past.
However, that was when he had been very inexperienced. Over time, it became automatic to use Monster Energy, so he never really tried to understand just how his Monster Core was made.
Still, now that Kai thought about it, he was sure of it.
The key to surpassing this stage was related to his Monster Energy and how well he could control and utilize it.
Because while there were no skills that could currently help Kai in this situation,
he could still move that Monster Energy around without any problems whatsoever.
But then the first problem Kai faced was the limited amount of time he had between each of his deaths.
He had around 30 seconds to meditate and try to find a way to complete this stage.
-Swoosh!
Right as the 30-second mark arrived, an arrow landed far away, striking Kai’s head.
[You have died.]
[Respawning...]
Kai no longer cared about that voice. It was simply part of this trial.
Instead, he didn’t waste time as he immediately sat down and focused on his Monster Core.
’What could I do with this energy?’ Kai thought.
He had never really tried to move the energy without a purpose.
Every time he used his Monster Energy, it was guided by his skill.
But what if... what if he didn’t need skills to obtain great abilities?
What if he could create skills on his own without having the need to evolve?
Kai thought of this as he decided to proceed with his first idea.
He had a little under 15 seconds to execute it. However, it was worth a try.
He moved his Monster Energy, guiding it carefully inside his body toward two precise locations.
His ears.
His idea was to amplify his sense of hearing. That way, he would be able to hear the arrow from much further away than before.
However, the problem Kai first faced was that he wasn’t sure how to effectively apply the Monster Energy so that his hearing could be enhanced.
He didn’t have a skill. He needed to figure it out on his own.
He was applying it to a general area. However, there was no effect from the looks of it.
Kai needed to figure out which part of the ear would enhance his hearing greatly.
But as he was trying to do that, his 30 seconds ran out once more.
[You have died.]
[Respawning...]
’Let’s try to apply it to the eardrums...’ Kai thought.
Now that it was his second time, Kai was a lot more agile with his Monster Energy, moving it masterfully.
Then, seconds later, he applied the Monster Energy to his eardrums. Now, all he needed to do was wait for the arrow to come his way.
***
In a small room very far away, Isla was looking at Kai in the middle of this room.
She was able to see him because of infrared cameras.
Isla was smiling as she looked at him.
The reason why she was so happy?
Because he had finally figured out the right path to succeed in this stage.
Still, now that he had grasped the idea, the hardest part would arrive: the execution.
"Let’s hope that your talent will help you again..."
Isla still remembered back in the first stage when he had completely lost consciousness and had stopped breathing.
Just like the guards, she had believed that he had died in a last-ditch attempt at doing some great attack.
However, when the world didn’t start again, she understood that wasn’t the case. Something was happening to Kai.
Even now, she was trying to figure out what had happened. She had seen a strong light coming from Varkul’s ring, so she knew that it was related to that strange item.
’Did Varkul really plan that far ahead that he would have a contingency in place?’
Isla shook her head.
She loved her master.
But for him to have seen this far ahead into the future, it was impossible.
It had to be luck.
Otherwise, her master had hidden a great power from her: the power to see into the future... something that was usually only available to fairies.
And even then, their ability was limited. They could only see a few years into the future. Thousands of years had never been heard of whatsoever.
"Did he discover something and keep it to himself?"
The reason why Isla believed that was the case was because of her current appearance.
She wasn’t a fairy. She had never been a fairy.
However, everything about her appearance seemed to indicate that was the case. Varkul had clearly changed something about her before binding her to the Mythical Evolution System.
’But if he did change something... I would have remembered. I was there.’
Isla frowned as she looked once more at the screen before her, dismissing those thoughts.
Kai had already died once more.
But he was back in the same position as before. Isla could see that he was using his Monster Energy, trying to guide it to help him achieve something.
"It will probably take him around one hour to clear the first difficulty."
One hour meant 120 deaths.
Anyone who went through such a thing so many times was bound to come out changed.
But then, as the 30-second mark approached, Kai stood up from his sitting position and stared directly at where the arrow was coming from.
He even had a smirk on his face as he dashed to his right, reacting in time and completely dodging the arrow heading his way.
"Did he really manage to grasp the skill creation concept in three tries?"
Isla’s eyes widened.
Maybe the hell difficulty was the appropriate difficulty for Kai, after all.
