Chapter 31: Position Known Worldwide
"Kai, why the hell didn’t you tell me that you were Notamonster?!" Lily said over the phone since she had quickly realized that Kai could not speak with other humans inside of the game.
Kai, who was lying in his bed, unable to move, heard Lily’s voice coming out of a speaker. She sounded angry; however, Kai knew that wasn’t the case. She was just annoyed that he had hid who he had been playing as, especially since his name had been going around everywhere in the forums.
"I wanted to surprise you, little sister. It’s been a while since I’ve annoyed you. So, I thought it would be a good time to do so."
"Tsk, you could have at least given me a hint!"
"I could have, but where’s the fun in that?" Kai said arrogantly.
"Ah... if only I could hit you right now," Lily said as she shook her head on the other side of the phone. "Anyway, you do know that killing those guys was extremely risky of you. Your name is now all over the game forums because they created a post complaining about you as soon as you killed them. Everyone is now looking for you near Bramblewick... even the top players and the leaders of the biggest guilds are heading your way."
Kai knew that he was extremely popular. However, he hadn’t expected it to be up to that point. For the strongest players in the game to all come looking for him... maybe he really was a legendary figure in the game already. Still, it wasn’t like he was planning on staying in Bramblewick for a very long time.
And there was also the fact that none of them knew that he was a monster.
Though, there was one thing that Kai hadn’t expected: the identity of his sister being revealed.
"In the forums, they even talked about how you protected me. Now, they’re not only looking for you, but they are also looking for me to ask me a ton of questions. Ever since that post was created, I’ve been getting tons of messages from Anonymous Players."
Lily took a deep breath.
"So, if it wasn’t clear enough already, everyone is out to get you."
Kai sighed.
Even if the entire player base tried to find him, they wouldn’t be able to. And if they did find him, Kai was confident in killing anyone heading his way. Or, at the very least, run for his life with the help of [Shadow Cloak].
"Let them come. They won’t be able to do anything to me."
Lily wasn’t sure how her brother had become so confident, but she had a good idea that it was related to the Mana Sphere that she had seen a little over a week ago—something that everyone had talked about in the forums.
The rumors were that Notamonster had been the one to create that Mana Sphere. However, it was still a mystery, and Lily honestly wasn’t sure if she wanted to know if he was the one who had done something like this.
Still, there was one question that had been on Lily’s mind ever since she had figured out her brother’s real identity.
"Still, how did you even become a monster? I didn’t see that choice in the possible classes to play."
"I have no idea. I woke up, and I was a monster. That’s about it. Then, all kinds of crazy stuff happened to me, and I became extremely strong."
Kai didn’t want to tell everything that had happened to his sister since, even if he trusted her with her identity, maybe she could slip up when talking to her friends or something like that. It was important that his identity stayed in the dark. That’s what truly mattered to Kai.
He liked playing alone, without anyone bothering him. He didn’t want to become a public personality or anything like that. He just wanted to continue playing in what was basically his second chance at life.
"Anyway, I should probably log in again before every single player in the game arrives in Bramblewick."
"Where will you go next?"
"Wherever fate takes me."
Lily shook her head once more. "Look at you talking like a sage all of a sudden. Anyway, now that we’re friends, I’ll be able to see where you are at all times on the map."
"Map? There’s a map?"
"Yeah, you should have gotten one when you spawned. It was one of the newbie items everyone gets."
"I didn’t spawn with any items."
Lily, honestly, had no clue what to tell her brother. His playing experience had been different from anyone else’s, and there was nothing she could do to help him.
"Is there a place where I can buy that map?"
"I don’t think so. I’ll try looking for one and buy one for you. Though, no promises."
"Thanks, sis. Anyway, got to go."
Kai ended the call as he immediately asked Hilda to place his VR helmet back on his head and headed right back into the game, reappearing behind the same tree as earlier.
As soon as he appeared, a lot of noises resounded all around Kai. It was from all the players who had suddenly arrived at Bramblewick.
"Where the hell were you? Ever since you disappeared, thousands of players started arriving here!" Isla told Kai with a lot of panic.
After all, all humans could be considered enemies for a monster. That’s why, with such a massive influx of humans, they needed to be extremely careful.
"Hm, don’t worry about it. It’ll be fine. If anything happens, I can just use [Shadow Cloak] and run away." Kai smirked. "Anyway, what have they been saying?"
Before Isla could even respond, the shouts reached Kai’s ears.
"The Gold Guild will offer $100,000 for Notamonster to join their guild!"
"The Crimson Covenant guild will offer $150,000 for Notamonster to join their guild!"
"The Bloodhound Legion will offer $200,000!"
Dozens of guild officials began shouting as loudly as they could, hoping that wherever Notamonster was hiding, he would hear them.
