Mystery Paradise: Wishing Power Demon -
Chapter 434 - 432 Another Demon
Chapter 434: Chapter 432 Another Demon
"Why do they love to build dungeons underneath the castle?" Ailuodi frowned.
"These aren’t jails for criminals, but private dungeons of the rulers. The fate of those imprisoned here doesn’t need a trial, it’s entirely up to the lord whether they live or die," Kokomoqi said indifferently. "Doesn’t Thistlefort have such a place? It’s actually rare for the Paradise Sect not to make use of it."
Seeing someone approaching, all the prisoners behind the bars crowded over, reaching out to Chaoyang and the others, begging—
"Give us some food, my lord!"
"I’m about to starve to death..."
"Please, let me see the Duke, I’m innocent!"
Kokomoqi did not glance aside, and following the black smoke, they reached the deepest cell, where under the torchlight, Chaoyang saw that this cage was crammed with about eight or nine people, men and women, both young and old. All were scantily clad and emaciated, clearly having been imprisoned here for a while.
The group was taken aback when they saw the three people before the cage, with several women even shrinking back in terror.
However, when the old man clearly saw Kokomoqi’s fluttering, multicolored black hair, an incredulous look appeared on his face, "You... Are you the Magic Goddess?"
"They all belong to the Guinness family..." she whispered first, then turned to the crowd and asked, "Where is little Guinness?"
"Here, here!"
Everyone stepped aside, bringing a man who was in a faint to the front of the cage. Even though he was Lallote Guinness’s child, he was at least thirty years old, with his wrists wrapped in cloth which clearly showed bloodstains.
"He’s still alive... He’s probably just fainted due to weakness," Angel deduced.
Kokomoqi visibly let out a sigh of relief, a stark contrast to the nonchalant attitude she had shown before, "Yu heard his prayer, which is why I came here. Why were you imprisoned in a private dungeon? And how did Lallote Guinness die?"
"Duke Lallote was murdered!" everyone responded in an uproar, "Divinities, please, you must avenge us!"
"Our family head committed no wrongdoing; he simply refused to serve the New Divine and wanted to persuade the lord to bring you back to Zhaixing City!"
"Yes... But that New Divine bewitched the lord and others... Duke Rosha forced everyone to follow the New Divine, something that has never happened before!"
"No, I was implicated! I am willing to believe in the New Divine, but after Duke Lallote was assassinated on the street, the Duke had everyone with the Guinness surname arrested; it’s simply not fair!"
Despite their chaotic answers, Chaoyang was able to understand what had actually happened—over the past six months, a New Divine appeared in Zhaixing City, and this New Divine not only quickly consolidated their territory of faith but also ousted the followers of other divinities. Lallote Guinness was unwilling to accept such an outcome, believing in the ancient tradition of polytheism, and hoped the Magic Goddess would return to the land of mountains, thus being murdered and his whole family implicated.
From the attitudes of these Guinness kin, it was evident that, even within the same family, there were few who wished to maintain their faith in magic.
Of course, Chaoyang could understand these people, since divinities weren’t merely a spiritual consolation but also protectors who could bring tangible benefits to the world. The moment Kokomoqi thought her duty was over, her followers were destined to face such a choice.
The real culprit was undoubtedly this New Divine.
Kokomoqi reached out and touched the iron lock; the cell door opened with a sound, "The entire city has turned into a battlefield now. Once you escape, find the secluded paths to leave Zhaixing City, and first take refuge in the town in the valley. You can’t undertake a long journey in such a condition; once you’ve recovered, Yu will guide you to Thistlefort."
After finishing her words, she clapped her hands and applied the Invisibility Technique to everyone.
They were astonished to find that their bodies had become transparent!
"Thank you! Thank you, Divinities!" The old man immediately knelt down and started kowtowing to Kokomoqi.
The latter replied coldly, "Remember, I saved you because of young Guinness’s prayers, so you’d better ensure his safety along the way. If anything happens to him, I will certainly come to settle this account with you!"
"Yes, yes, yes! We will make sure of it!" The elder from the Guinness family shuddered and hurriedly responded in agreement.
"Divinities, we are innocent too!"
"Please take us with you!" Seeing that the stranger was not an executioner, the people in the other cages couldn’t help but shout excitedly.
"I’ll set them free," Ailuodi said, "Such dirty places for vigilantism should not exist."
After saying that, she summoned the Gale Sword and cut open all the locks in one go!
"Go, head to a safe place!"
"Thank you! Thank you!"
The prisoners who could still move rushed out of the jail and ran towards the exit.
Clap, clap, clap...
Suddenly there was applause from the direction of the exit.
A man was seen walking slowly into the jail against the tide of people, clapping as he walked.
The moment Chaoyang saw this man, he again felt a strong tremor from deep within—he suddenly realized that this emotion had nothing to do with good or evil but was purely a resonance of power, and it was the very target he had been searching for but found elusive: another Awakener Demon.
Ailuodi also instantly judged who the newcomer was, "Demon?"
If it had been her from before, she would have drawn her sword the moment she sensed a demon’s aura. However, after nearly a year with Chaoyang, she had learned to trust her own eyes.
"I was wondering who had entered the great hall and went straight to the dungeon. I didn’t expect to see an Angel in this world." The man placed his right hand on his chest, lifted his left hand backward, and performed a deep bow in the form of a noble’s greeting, "Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Charlie, from Huangwu Land. And you, kin?"
As he said this, his gaze fell on Chaoyang.
Chaoyang was also sizing him up. Theoretically, both demons and angels belonged to the realm of humanity and, aside from their awakened abilities, differed little from ordinary people. However, the demon in front of him was different with horns protruding from his head and meaty wings on his back; his fingers were long and pointed, very much like the stereotypical image of a demon from mythological tales...
So tacky... Chaoyang couldn’t help but scoff internally.
He simply couldn’t regard such a creature as his own kind. Could it be that what one becomes after Awakening is random? Yet, he had seen many Awakened Angels, and none of them became un-humanlike.
"What have you done to these people?" Ailuodi demanded, "Those soldiers have barely any life energy left!"
"But they achieved their desires and became great individuals that they could never reach through ordinary means in a lifetime." Charlie spread his hands, "Would you prefer to be a hero for a moment or to live out your life as a coward? Perhaps the process is brief, the price steep, but these were their choices. You should understand that the premise of signing a contract is mutual consent; I didn’t force them to do this. Since the agreement is sealed, what’s the problem with me taking their life energy? Isn’t that their value?"
"Indeed, it’s oddities like you that are the anomalies," the Angel glanced at Chaoyang, the determination clear in her blue eyes. As she spoke, a tornado-like whirlwind was already gathering in her hands!
