Chapter 68: Yano Vs Terry
Chapter 68: Yano Vs Terry
The sudden shift in atmosphere was immediate.
The remaining players—those who had yet to step foot into the boss area—halted in their tracks.
Many were halfway through their charge, weapons still raised, expressions bright with the excitement of battle. But now, they froze.
One by one, they looked up at the golden figure floating above the poisonous mist.
"Terry...?"
"Is that really...?"
The words Terry had spoken just moments ago still lingered in the air, echoing inside their minds.
"Only to backstab me. And trap me in that cage."
Their confusion quickly turned into realisation, and the horror fully settled in.
"Wait... what does he mean trap?" one of the players muttered.
"He said Yano... trapped him?"
"I-Is that true?"
More murmurs rippled through the crowd, swelling with tension.
"No way..."
"Yano did that? He lied to us?!"
"All this was planned?"
Some of them glanced at the floating white particles within the mist, followed by dying screams. At the players who had believed in Yano’s promises, only to charge to their deaths.
And as they stared at it, their horror quickly morphed into rage.
"That selfish bastard!"
"He planned to use us as sacrifices!"
"Unbelievable... I trusted that bastard!"
The crowd was swelling with furious voices now, their anger no longer hidden.
Even those who fully believed in Yano before found themselves doubting his credibility. After all... he and his guild had tricked their senses using illusions. The mist was still very much there, and the monster boss unharmed.
As if all that wasn’t enough, he had tried to ambush Terry, hoping to stop him from intervening in his evil plan.
"Terry came back to save us."
"He really didn’t abandon us."
"I knew it! I knew he was the real deal!"
Some of the newer players looked up at the golden figure in awe, the disgust they had reserved for Yano flipping entirely into admiration.
"Look at him... glowing like that..."
"He’s like the real deal! A true hero..."
Meanwhile, others kept staring at Yano with twisted faces.
"I can’t believe he trapped Terry."
"What a scumbag!"
Yano stood silently in the air, listening.
Each word they spat felt like needles digging into his spine, especially as he kept hearing them sing praises of Terry.
His jaw tightened, his face stiff.
Sure he might have broken out of the trap he laid for him, was that really enough to treat him like a god?
He could feel it—how quickly they were turning. Just like that, breaking away from his compulsion just like that.
’This bastard broke out...’ Yano thought darkly. ’My efforts... everything... has backfired...!’
His fingers trembled slightly at his sides.
He turned his eyes back toward Terry, his voice low but boiling with barely restrained fury.
"...So what now?" he growled. "Are you going to try and stand in my way?"
Terry didn’t even blink.
He scoffed lightly, shaking his head. "Of course," he said, his voice calm, but resolute. "That’s what a hero does."
That simple declaration caused an eruption.
The players below, still gathered around the edge of the boss zone, let out a chorus of cheers and wild shouts.
"Let’s gooo!"
"That’s our hero!"
"He said the line! He actually said the line!"
The golden light shimmering around Terry only made the moment more surreal—like something straight out of a superhero movie or game.
Meanwhile, Yano’s expression twisted.
’Why are they all acting like he said something cool...?’ he thought furiously. ’That’s lame! It’s nothing to cheer for!!’
The cheers hadn’t even finished echoing when something shifted within the boss zone.
The dense, poisonous mist began to shrink, rapidly being sucked back into the Crimson Blood Scorpion’s tail.
Its long, jet-black stinger throbbed with a faint pulse as it absorbed all the blood poison gas in the air, leaving nothing but faint streaks of red on the ground.
Yano’s eyes widened.
’The time is now...!’
Without wasting a second, he shot forward like a missile, streaking through the air straight toward the boss zone.
Terry’s eyes immediately sharpened. "Don’t think I’ll let you do that!"
A pulse of golden light flared from his body, and in the next second, he shot forward as well, flying like a blazing comet to intercept him.
He already understood what Yano was planning. It wasn’t hard to piece together.
The poison gas was gone. That meant the scorpion was vulnerable now, even if just for a while.
This was the exact window Yano had been waiting for. The reason he betrayed and sacrifice all those players.
But Terry refused to let that happen.
Letting Yano claim the kill now... would mean the lives lost meant nothing.
They may not have died permanently, but it didn’t matter much—not to Terry, who strongly valued loyalty and basic human empathy.
This may be a game, but they were still people, not tools to be thrown at a monster’s feet.
"Yano!!" he shouted again, his voice burning with righteous fury. "You’re not taking anything from here!"
Yano clicked his tongue, glancing sideways with a snarl.
Just then, one of the remaining Noble Lion Guild members broke formation, dashing straight at Terry.
She was a small, blue-haired girl, her figure almost petite, but her eyes burned with determination.
Her twin ponytails whipped in the air as she moved, blue sparks crackling around her fingertips.
She stretched her arm toward Terry.
Fwoom!
Two massive, semi-transparent circles materialized in front of him, their runes glowing with deep blue light.
They floated in the air like magical shields, humming with energy.
Terry didn’t slow down.
"Hmph." He scoffed and raised his spear, golden light coiling up its length like a living flame.
He swiftly swung it towards the barriers blocking his path.
Swoosh!
A blazing arc of light erupted from the tip, slicing forward with terrifying force.
Boom!
The arc shredded through both barriers like they were made of paper, leaving behind streaks of melting blue particles.
It didn’t stop there.
The same arc shot past the barriers and crashed into the blue-haired girl, who barely had time to gasp.
Her body trembled violently—then burst into thousands of white particles, scattered to the wind.
Terry didn’t spare her a second glance.
"Don’t think you can stop me," he said coldly, his other hand already raised toward Yano.
With a simple twirl of his fingers, twenty radiant light arrows materialized in a spiral around his arm, each one humming with lethal power.
Whoosh!
The arrows shot forward like a swarm of guided missiles, aiming directly for Yano.
Yano’s eyes flared. "Tch!"
He thrust his hands forward, and a fountain of blood erupted violently from his fingertips, spraying into the air in thick streams.
The blood twisted unnaturally, whirling and compressing as it shaped itself into a large, door-sized shield.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
The first few arrows smashed into the blood shield with blinding flashes of light, tearing at its surface.
The rest came in an instant later, pounding in rapid succession.
CRACK! CRACK!
Hairline fractures formed across the surface of the blood barrier, drops of blood dripping down the edges like sweat.
Yano growled, muscles tensed, arms shaking under the force.
’It’s... so strong!’ he thought, gnashing his teeth.
However, he couldn’t afford to fall now, especially not to Terry!
